FFXII defines this by attempting a new and definitely intriguing political storyline only to forget to develop any of the characters whatsoever...
Except maybe Balthier, but he was the only decent character to being with anyway.
Fran was probably the worst offender, her entire persona could be summed up in two words: Viera. Outcast. Their love story was completely tacked on and unconvincing.

Here's a little trick I use on the FF titles. Whenever a plot-developing CG sequence begins, close your eyes and mute the volume. after 30 seconds has passed, open your eyes and imagine what may or may not have been said in the gaps. Then go back to enjoying the game for what it is. Grindtastic awesomeness.

Metal Gear Solid 1 and all of two. 3 was my personal favorite and it din't really expect me to know anything about the story.

Timeshift.

The ending was so stupid.
I was genuinely enjoying Timeshift. It wasn't the best game out there but it was unique and fun. Then the story shat itself inside-out and I stopped caring, which means I stopped having fun.

Keep in mind, I enjoyed Bioshock a LOT, but I felt the very end (the final boss battle) was a bit hackneyed.

Resident Evil 4s plot started out pretty good but then they gave you totally overpowered weapons and an ancient cult joined in, after that I stopped caring.

Honestly? Shadow of the Collossus, it starts out brilliant, but the final couple of Collossus' are almost too frustrating to continue playing. Though the story does stay pretty strong.

FFXII also falls apart after awhile, the interesting Gimick Dungeons vanish and you wander through boring wilderness after boring wilderness and solve stupid door puzzle after stupid door puzzle. Only the Final Dungeon redeems it after the Frustrating trip to Arcadia. Also the plot BASICALLY stops as soon as you finish The Miriam Stillshrine and doesn't start again until you beat The Ridonora Cataracht. It's almost a 20 hour stretch of little to no story.

Crysis. ******************(Spoilers here)**********************

I hated how the give away the alien thing so early. In fact it's on the back of the stupid box. I was atleast somewhat refreshed by the way you don't start the game fighting the aliens like every other alien game. But in my opinion it would be better to make the whole game Koreans and the alien cave in the mountain be part of some cliff hanger ending to the game.

(Done)

Assassin's Creed is actually the best series to me in that it has boldly set out to span multiple genres. The first game is sword fighting and stealthy stuff and the second one will undoubtly still has stealthy stuff and maybe swords figthing but it will also defiantly be mostly FPS. Most series are fighting the same enemies in the same type of environments throughout the whole thing. Assassin's Creed will feel like reading 3 books but each will be different yet relate to each other very well.

Y'think Assassin's Creed 2 is going to be even remotely FPS? No, I think not.

The hints dropped like anvils at the end of the first game indicate that it will be about ninjas.

Assassin's Creed 3, when it rolls around and inevitably concerns Desmond running around in 2012 using the skills of his predecessors to outwit the templars for good will likely be guns and stealth.

Definitely Assassin's Creed, while I loved the game and the story, and you could pretty much tell who the mastermind behind it was the entire game, it just felt too thrown together.

There are lots of great plots in games and lots of bad ones too, but how many start out great (even better than great sometimes)then just fall flat on its ass or even start out terrible than improve (greatly) Hear are my choices:

Indigo Prophecy, It was so good, then it just got... weird
Metal Gear Solid, it seemed good at first then well... you know...
OK, i'm gonna set my opinion on this matter straight. I love indigo prophecy, the whole time. It was far fetched but hell i could dig it. I weas pumped about my ending, and all in all it was a beautifal theatrical game. OK that asside, i think the entire MGS series (save 3 for the most part) are absolutely off their rocker.

Knights of the Republic 2 had a pretty good plot in the beginning with the fact that you were the only Jedi alive, but then it got pretty confusing that it just didn't make sense. And the ending was really one of the worst- no closure at all.

Timeshift's story never really happened. The overall premise was pretty cool (alternate future dystopia, etc.), but then the game never fleshed it out.

FFXII was honestly rather disappointing for me. I was expecting something a little more epic, rather than "this guy is taking over the senate".

How in the world did Shadow of the Colossus end up on this list? Even though the story was barely there (see the GameFAQs story analysis for details), after I was done, I was left with a sense of "whoa."

I'm actually suprised no one mentioned HAZE on the forum. I mean, the dev team obviously didn't give two shits about the plot, to the extent that they spoiled it in every advertisement, and the back of the case. Dialogue was horrible, plot was jumbled, and lack of twists kept this from being great. Outside of that, i thought haze was fun!

Soul Calibur 3 and 4 anyone? I realize they are fighting games, but I want some kind of closure in the endings, not a reason to make yet another Soul game.
