F.E.A.R. Needs an ending. I mean counting the non-canon expansion packs we've gone through what, four different main characters now? Face it, Monolith have no idea where they're taking the story, they don't have an ending and they don't have a clue. It'd be best that they just finish it before it gets even more pathetic.

Final Fantasy. I can't think of any reason someone could find those games fun/interesting/original/good/well made/like there's actually some effort put in those games.
Worst characters ever, plot makes no sense, the fighting might be good, but they fuck that up too, because they last for hours to make the game longer and the micromanagement is painfully complicated.

I don't think any series needs to die. I think there are many that are now selling based on name reputation alone (Sonic, Pokémon, Guitar Hero, etc), and there are some games that are existing purely as cash cow franchises that sell regardless (Sonic, Pokémon, Guitar Hero, etc), where nothing is ever really changed from the same tried and tested format (Pokémon, Guitar Hero etc). Not that that's always a good thing mind (take a look at the Sonic games of late).

There are certain franchises that need to really have a good shake up and change, but if it's not broke, and people enjoy playing it, don't fix it. Then there are franchises where it is severely broken and time does need to be spent on making it as good as it one was. But really, since when did a franchises continuation affect anyone that badly? Fifa's been around for ages, and yet I've never owned a copy, and have no intention of buying one. If you're dumb enough to buy stuff you don't like, really you've only yourself to blame.

This is easily one of the most repeated topics but your new so just search it next time.

Anyway I would say SSB Brawl, I don't want them to bring a sequal out for that version, sucks compared to the first 2!
Brawl IS the last in the series... That was announced when it was released.
Oh please, they always say that and then when they want to make more money, they make another. It always happens no matter what they say, anything that sells well will get a sequal whether it's good or crap.

Thing about Final Fantasy is that it's more like a developer name- rather than a series, as the story/world/universe is not static throughout the several games.

Take for example the mario games, they formula stays the same everytime, and mario is a key feature of the series.

I just think it's hard to define final fantasy as a series...

imo Final Fantasy should just stop after XIV (mostly because I want to play XIV), Sega needs to make a GOOD Sonic game or the series should die, also the Wii game series needs to stop. Wii Sports = ok. Wii music = pointless... Wii Fit = bullshit.
Halo needs to stop as well, and also so does Call of Duty. The first 2 were great and 4 was decent. Half Life needs to stop after HL2:Episode 3 as they taking so long to come out!
Lastly, all EA sports games must DIE, the yearly updates should just be downloadable updates or say, a patch or something. I much prefer games that only have one or two releases are MUCH MUCH better than games that have craptons of releases.

i would have to agree each ff setting is drastically different and only 2 of them actaully connect to each other less of a series more of a convenience because if they gave each of them a different name stock wouldnt work as well.

a game should stop because it takes awhile to be made...? theyre focusing their assets on left 4 dead 2 and tf2 half life 3 is just sortve sitting around somewhere on a valve hard drive waiting to be picked up and mucked with again. It's currently their redheaded stepchild.

To me it's like saying- Bioware 13: Dragon age origins

You know what I mean... all the FF games have only as much in common as games made by the same developer would have in common, so I don't believe it qualifies as a series

I'm also saying if they make any more the series would die in fail. Honestly it won't live up to the Hype. and valve hdd's are generally also filled with a gazillion new ideas that they won't use.

Could I really say that hamlet (not the best story ever written, not even the best Shakespeare anyway...) is about some anime teens killing Satan? No... that's because the story is A, inventive and B, good.

People don't want something that changes the views upon the world! They don't even want something which stimulates them mentally! ALL THE CHARACTERS IN FFs are the same! There is always one really sad and emo person and always a couple of really happy-go-lucky girls who are interested in the protagonist. There is always one down-to-earth girl and one guy who always cheers the protagonist up when he's feeling down. Jesus christ this isn't rocket science to write....

You also should search at least a little to find a good game. Otherwise you'll just end up waiting to buy the next teenagers vs satan mash up game.

Also I am quite capable of making my own opinions. Just because mine are shared with Yahtzee does not weaken my argument at all.

You know what? Screw it. Go eat your mediocre games and pay $80 for the experience.
If you break the story down in a few sentences then any story sounds crap. The story is not about how original the idea it is, it's about how it makes you feel. How many Final Fantasies have you actually played and I mean played till then end? If you actually did play any of the games to the end you would realise the epic crescendo there usually is and how utterly wrong you are about the characters

I can agree with you that most people like a comfortable view on the world but Braid is never going to change anyone's view on the world, in fact I doubt any video game story will change peoples views on the world.
Go on, throw a game to me that you think changes how people think about their place on Earth and where they stand in life

Or you could end up buying some shitty game, most people at least get advice from workers in a shop, unless the are there specifically to buy a particular game.

In all honesty, everything you have said relates to Yahtzee's opinion because you sound informed about a good majority of these game

Tell you what, I want a rpg with good story on my 360. What would you recommend then if you have such a hatred for mainstream game?
I have played FF7 all the way through and FF10 and FF8 partly way through. TBH I was more worried about maxium damage output but - AEEEEERIE!!!!!!!!

I have got to say, a lot of the FF are actually fairly good. I throughly enjoyed FF7 and FF8 was really rather special.

To answer your question, buy Baulders gate and it's expansion pack (as well as BG2 + Expansion). It can run on any PC and the story will really engross you. The characters get alot more developed as the game carries on. And lots of other cool stuff. If you can't stand the outdated graphics (as nice as the hand painted backgrounds are) try Dragon Age. I have heard good things about that. Also, Fallout 2 is an amazing example of a RPG. You can get it from GOG (good old games) DRM free for about 6 dollars.

To answer your other question I'd have to remind you about World of Goo again.

This man makes an VERY good point.

Everyone should just stop making Wii games now. The Wii was dead when it was called the revolution

No, this wasn't some cheesey company quote in a press conference or something, the CREATOR of Brawl stated that they would be making no more, he was reluctant even to make Brawl.

yes it will... valve is one of those companies that has the grace to have never made a bad game.

No series needs to die, only take a good look at itself sometimes.
Example, I often bash the Halo series, but I dont hate the games themselves, just the fan community spawned from online multiplayer. I would love to get more Halo universe....minus online multiplayer beyond co-op.
