The short answer: no. If anything, video games give people an outlet for our predisposition toward violence that doesn't involve actual people getting hurt.

The long answer: People are (and always have been) very violent by nature. In recent years, thanks to the networking of the world (internet, the news, etc) people have become much more aware of the violence that has always been taking place in the world. Naturally, assuming that this apparent rise in violence must be attributable to some new influence in our lives, people look to new forms of entertainment and the like, eg: video games.

In short, to those in the world who do believe that video games are making us more violent, I say, "read a history book." There were no video games during the crusades, or the dark ages, yet we still managed to commit horrible atrocities.
Check and mate, totally agree with you. Many a time ive come home wanting to hit something, 30 mins in a game and all the pent up anger is gone.

I think people forget the long history of callous young men who didn't have any problem slaughtering each other. And they didn't even have movies or TV.

Oh noooooo. Jack Thompson descends from his cave lair and will destroy us all with hellfire. Run and scream! *ahem* Of course virtual violence doesn't lead to real-world violence. It provides....and outlet. If you're anything like me, you need to blow some virtual brains all over the wall to keep yourself from doing it in real life.

My thinking is if someone gets "inspired" by a game, they already have to be slightly unhinged.

Most people I know play/have played some sort of violent video game, and none are serial killers as far as I can tell.

I can kill a man virtually as i know that apart from irritating the person Im not ACTUALLY killing them.

Killing a man takes a much more pre-Meditated urge.

When playing video games, I am a sick, sadistic bastard. I'll kill an enemy in the most gruesome way possible while laughing maniacally.

But in real-life I couldn't do any of that; violence isn't in my nature.

I've played Fable loads of times and yes i do wish i could run in and massacre a town full of people who have the thought processs of a turkey (Food good evil killing moster bad (I call it Turkey Syndrome)) and annihalate than with raw power and hell-ish abilities but unfortunately i have no massacre-useful supper-powers ... yet.

I play counter-strike source heaps but I don't believe that counter-terrorism units care whetheror not the terrorist unit has control of an inescapable room full of breakable boxes, nor do I think that people can teleport at the touch of a keyboard shortcut (!ztele(if you know you know, if you don't you don't)). HOWEVER, I really wish it were uber-true.

People who get violent based on what they saw in a video game have a messed-up idea of what's real. I believe that video games can make crazy people crazier, but most people are fine. If you were okay in the head when you started playing a violent game, you should be when you come out of it.

Until I see someone who has gone through an extensive psychological profile showing they are completely sane and no threat to the public before they go play a violent videogame and then go and commit mass murder than no videogames don't make people violent unless they were already were violent or mentally unstable.

Here's a link [http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2008/12/the-death-toll.html] to as far as I can tell violent, murderous criminals who have murdered multiple people but were for the most part not videogame players. In fact no one knows why those people really committed such terrible acts and the research [http://www.nytimes.com/1984/08/27/us/traits-shared-by-mass-killers-remain-unknown-to-experts.html] into the trigger is still ongoing.

I played Devil May Cry enough to make me want to enter sword tournaments =D
I now also train in various sword / weapon based martial arts because of it.
I'd say it did me good, cause at least I'm getting exercise.

It can go from Cathartic to Catalytic (or cataclysmic). It all depends on the present state of the users brain.
It may very well prevent you from actually killing people, since you are here provided with a virtual punching bag, or be the needed spark to finally ordering your grenade launcher and checking if all you've learnt in "Doom" is true.
I believe the second scenario is less common (seeing how there are millions of shooter gamers and we humans are still a growing population).

I have played butcherfull games for years, and so far the amount of people I have shot myself in real life is almost negligible. ;-)

Fuck no! It's always because of mental problems and even stress from family or whatever.

To keep it simple: No

To make this post a bit longer: Approximately 160 million people play computer and video games. Two of them killed somebody. That means that if you meet someone who plays video games, you have a 99.9999999875% chance of staying alive. I'll personally take my chances with that. Don't think I'm a total daredevil, though. That's the same chance I have of not getting hit by a lightning bolt riding a batmobile made out of winning lottery tickets.

They replace a living hell with a good dream.
But They'll wake up eventually, worse off because the problems (Triggers) aren't solved
