No one's brought up Penn and Teller's Bullshit? They took a kid who played violent, bloody shooters, a lot, and had him shoot a rifle at cardboard cutout of one of the bad guys from Home Alone, I believe. The poor kid cried.

I love how the media is so smart.

"Look! This youth has murdered eleven classmates and then shot himself using a gun! And LOOK! He owned a gaming console! That means he played violent video games that led him to believing that killing is okay and all things respawn."

Yeah, and I'd bet money that all of his victims harassed him at some point in his life and his situation at home wasn't great either. But that couldn't have anything to do with it, right?

Not at [sub]kill[/sub] all. Its ridiculous to [sub]kill[/sub] think that a video game [sub]kill[/sub] would have ANY kind of [sub]kill[/sub] adverse affects. Its ludicrous.
[sub]kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill, MUST kill kill kill kill kill kill[/sub]

Never heard of that, but thanks for sparking the interest. Welcome to the Escapist by the way

Video games dont cause people to commit murder they deter people from it by giving them a means to express their feelings.

To make this post a bit longer: Approximately 160 million people play computer and video games. Two of them killed somebody. That means that if you meet someone who plays video games, you have a 99.9999999875% chance of staying alive. I'll personally take my chances with that. Don't think I'm a total daredevil, though. That's the same chance I have of not getting hit by a lightning bolt riding a batmobile made out of winning lottery tickets.
I would have to assume that video game violence is indirectly responsible for more death than that. But I believe that while violence in video games doesn't really prevent real life violence, it doesn't really fuel it either. It's just a slight influence, no worse than violence in movies, TV, and CNN.

In game violence does not equal real life violence. It's way too much time and effort to kill a real person, so I prefer to just blast some pixels and polygons.

Videogames are the reason I haven't killed some people so far. They provide a great outlet in my opinion.

Fuck no! It's always because of mental problems and even stress from family or whatever.
They replace a living hell with a good dream.
But They'll wake up eventually, worse off because the problems (Triggers) aren't solved
I didn't know that. I thought, you know, they just play for fun.

Actually when I think about it, while I was playing Lineage 2 I would slowly forget the world around me because I was enjoying myself so much in the fantasy realm.

You know, I had heard about this but I haven't actually seen the video. You wouldn't happen to have a link, would you?

The best part about these threads is how damn near everyone says no. That if you were going to be violent irl it would happen with or without games and that games actually do more to prevent people from committing real world violent acts.
Then a article comes up about the japanese rape games. And their story changes. Somehow it is different for rape games and if you play it then you are far more likely to rape some one in real life.
The hypocrisy is stifling.
And yet, when I use that argument people say I'm defending rapists.

/I guess defending Prototype as free expression has me defending mass murdering virus-people too?
