I just have to say Bioshock is better because it leaves one thing out. THOSE MONKEYS.

Just for fun, say what you think is better (and only if you have played the respective games):
Also, you might wanna take off your potential nostalgia glasses :)

2. Planescape Torment vs Baldur's Gate 2
3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1
5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1
7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3
9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all)
12. Bioshock vs System Shock 2

Those are all match-up I can currently think of that are somewhat well balanced.
2. Planescape Torment. BG2 is a consensus top 5 CRPG of all time. Planescape Torment is (or should be) a consensus #1 CRPG of all time.

3. Mass Effect 2, easily. Maybe it's Star Wars fatigue (thanks Lucas) but KOTOR just left me cold. There's no need to sacrifice yourself, Bastila! I had him down to zero health in 2 combat rounds! Ffffffff...

5. Deus Ex, fairly easily. HL1 was a really good shooter. Deus Ex gets into a lot of "best game ever" discussions, and rightfully so.

7. Ouch. I'm going to go with Fallout 3. Certainly not without a lot of issues, and lacked some of the earlier games wit and charm, but Bethesda's wasteland was powerfully immersive, and Fallout 1 had a lot of frigging issues, not least of which the fact you could accidentally end the game in the first few hours.

9. Dead heat. Apples and Oranges. Do you prefer a powerful narrative and a linear story, or a wide open sandbox world and an atrocious narrative? Not a reasonable comparison, despite sharing a genre.

12. System Shock 2 was more groundbreaking and better for its time. Bioshock is the better game overall, but much less innovative. Given Bioshock was originally intended to be System Shock 3 this should come as no surprise to anyone. Same basic game, newer engine.

Of The Games I've Played
3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1 Winner: KoTOR 1
4. Final Fantasy 7 vs any other Final Fantasy Winner: I'm Strange and Prefer 8 10 and 13 over 7
7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3 Winner: Fallout 3
9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all) Winner: Oblivion
10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Winner: MGS3 (obviously)
13. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer Winner: Fifa
16. Call of Duty MW 1 vs Call of Duty BO Winner: CoD MW1

The only one that was easy was PES vs Fifa, i just really dislike PES. Otherwise all the others are more or less on equal footing, except maby Oblivion vs DA:O, one is a Liner Corridor hack the crap into anything that moves, and Oblivion a Mahoosive open world RPG, its like comparing Strawberries and Cheese, i love both but there so different.

Oh and as far as FF goes i didn't play 9, 12, 1-6 and 11 and 14 are online and i didnt play them so they don't count, oh and X-2 doesn't exist, at all ever o.k, it didn't happen.

Wow, some great games there!!

1. Chrono Trigger vs Chrono Cross - Played one of these I'm sure, can't remember them much tho!
2. Planescape Torment vs Baldur's Gate 2 - Hardest choice on here, BG 2 is the best game of all time though!
3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1 - Loved Mass Effect 1 & 2 but the KOTOR games were something else. I love star wars anyway so this is up there with BG to me.
4. Final Fantasy 7 vs FF IX, or possibly VIII - All 3 are great games but I like VIII better for gameplay and IX better for story.
5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1 - Not played Deus Ex, loved HL though.
7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3 - Probably haven't given FO1 a chance but I never got into it. Fallout 3 though I thought was ok, mainly for the exploration.
8. Gothic 2 vs Morrowind - Only played morrowind (great game).
9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all) - Didn't love it but liked it more then Oblivion.
10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - Splinter cell games are ok, MGS series beats it hands down though for me!
11. God of War vs Prince of Persia (the PS2 games) - Not that into these games, liked 1st god of war though.
12.Bioshock vs System Shock 2 - Only played Bioshock, and got bored half way through.
13. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer - FIFA all the way.
14. DotA vs Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends - Not played.
15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2 - Not played TF2.
16. Call of Duty MW 1 vs Call of Duty BO - Not an FPS fan, my brother buys them though. MW is the only COD I enjoyed.

A line through it means I haven't played it, and bold means I've played them both and preferred that one.

1. Chrono Trigger vs Chrono Cross: Trigger is awesome on its own merits, though. We all agree on that, right?
2. Planescape Torment vs Baldur's Gate 2: Don't really like WRPGs, or PC games too old to get on hardcopy and not on Steam.
3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1: I'd think Mass Effect 1 would be a better match for KotOR 1, but whatever floats your boat.
4. Final Fantasy 7 vs Final Fantasy 4 (DS): I'm sorry, but I'm just not willing to wait three hours for the good bit of the 'BEST GAME EVAR!!!!1'.
5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1: I have played Half Life 2, though.
6: THERE IS NO GAME 6!!!! (Monty Python reference)
7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3: Haven't even played that much of Fallout 3, really.
8. Gothic 2 vs Morrowind: Again, no Steam and no interest in WRPGs.
9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all): ...Do I really have to say anything else?
10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: Neither of those are for platforms I own.
11. God of War vs Prince of Persia (the PS2 games): See above.
12. Bioshock vs System Shock 2: See several above.
13. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer: No PS3 and no interest in soccer.
14. DotA vs Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends: The only RTS games I've ever played were Starcraft and Starcraft 2, and I was terrible at both.
15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2: Multiplayer-based FPS games that I bought years after everyone else, so even the 'noob-friendly' servers have people killing me two seconds after each spawn? No thanks.
16. Call of Duty MW 1 vs Call of Duty BO: More multiplayer-based FPS games where I'm really late to the party. Mostly bought Modern Warfare for the campaign, and it was cheap anyway.

...Man. I'm surprised how many of these have both easily available for someone with my stuff, and that I haven't played due to lack of interest.

4. Final Fantasy 7 vs any other Final Fantasy (you choose one) - None of em
5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1 - None either.
7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3 - Damn, I prefer Fallout 3, more character.
8. Gothic 2 vs Morrowind NONE!.
9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all) - Oblivion all the way, 100X more fun with mods and better story, gameplay, music, enviroment...and etc, etc.
10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - None, yet again.
11. God of War vs Prince of Persia (the PS2 games)- Ditto from above.
12. Bioshock vs System Shock 2- Have not played the second option.
13. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer - Really sport games, I put in...MidNight Club.
14. DotA vs Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends - Will never, ever play, too many noobs.
15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2 - I am sorry but they are both awesome.
16. Call of Duty MW 1 vs Call of Duty BO - Screw em both, I will choose the best, Call Of Duty 4, it is not called Modern Warfare 1, DOUCH'E!
Sorry about that but I get angry when they call it that.

I want to make my own poll
Grand Theft Auto Vs Saints Row...
Grand Theft Auto Vs Saints Row - The choice is easy, easy as 1+1= Fish.

I'll just talk about the ones I've played or at least have an idea of.

3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1 (Mass Effect 2 had more fun combat and the conversations were more refined but, in the end I had just as much fun with KOTOR so I'm gonna have to say they're about even for me.)
4. Final Fantasy 7 vs any other Final Fantasy (you choose one) (7 was a great game and one of the better ones of the series I've played. However, FFVIII and X moved me more and X combat was perfect so I've gotta say they beat 7 but, 7 would come after them in terms of favorites. Only played and completed Crisis Core, VII, VIII, X, XII, XIII so I can't compare it to the others)

5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1 (I've only had limited experience playing them, even though deus ex is sitting there from a steam sale a while ago, I have yet to play much of it, only a couple of hours. I found the combat in deus ex to be quite meh but, overall the game sets the tone and atmosphere of the games' world really well. Both are about on par with each other for me.

7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3 (only played Fallout 3 so I can't really say which is better, I didn't particularly enjoy it that much so I don't think I'd enjoy 1 all that much either. The older graphics would make it harder for me to get into but the turn based combat system could win me over. But, if the game sets you out into a world with no real purpose other than to run around and see whats there like Fallout 3 was then I'd say I wouldn't enjoy it much either.

9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all) Only played bits of Oblivion, I didn't enjoy it much, it was similar to Fallout 3 as in your just some random that wanders aimlessly around doing random stuff I didn't care much for. I also found the combat system to be quite meh. Since Dragon Age is done by Bioware, I'm going to assume that they place more emphasis on story than Bethesda so I'd probably say that I would enjoy Dragon Age more than Oblivion but, I don't really know what Dragon Age is like.

10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Haven't played Splinter Cell or MGS 3 but considering that I loved 4 and 3 is supposed to be the best in the series then I should enjoy it and probably more than Splinter Cell if MGS 3 is as good as it's supposed to be. Although I didn't enjoy MGS 2 (the combat was clunky and the cut scenes were quite dull, at least MGS 4 when things weren't exciting, the graphics made it look nice to view) that much but, people say it's probably the worst in the series.

15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2 (If this is CS Source than I'm going to have to say I enjoy it more than TF 2. TF 2 has cool characters and they make me laugh but, I enjoy the gameplay in CSS more. I find it annoying when I verse people online and they take more than a couple of hits to die.

16. Call of Duty MW 1 vs Call of Duty BO (Thought MW 1 was quite exciting. I haven't had any chance to play BO but, since it's made by Treyarch, if it reflects how meh I thought WOW was than I'm going to say that MW1 would probably be a lot better. I found I just wasn't having any fun playing WOW. The levels were just boring. But, 1, MW1 and MW2 which I've played of Infinity Wards, I've found them to be quite enjoyable. I also like how there are reoccurring characters like captain price and captain Foley in their games even though they represent entirely different people. Although captain price in MW1 reflects his character model and voice in 1.

EDIT: Just realized that this is an old topic and this is my second post in this thread.
Thanks whoever posted in this seeing how old it is. I just wasted a ton of time. Although it's interesting to see how my answers have changed since then.

1. Haven't played Chrono Cross
2. Baldur's Gate 2. Planescape: Torments story is amazing but the gameplay is rather lackluster and Baldur's Gate has a great story and good gameplay.
3. KOTOR 1. No contest, I don't like Mass Effect 2. It's boring to play, while it has a good story and universe I can't force myself through it again. Loyalty missions are amazing, but the writing of the main story is also really lacking. It's less tedious than ME1 but that isn't saying much.
4. Final Fantasy 6
5. Can't decide. Both games are amazing, hell I think Half Life 1 was better than Half Life 2 in alot of ways.
7. Fallout 1. Just a way better RPG in my opinion. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy or play the hell out of Fallout 3 though.
8. Morrowind, though I do own Gothic 2, I have yet to play it.
9. Dragon Age: Origins. Oblivion is a good game, but I got more playtime out of Origins.
10. Haven't played either.
11. Haven't played God Of War
12. System Shock 2. While I haven't played it, I've heard great things about System Shock 2. It also helps that I don't like BioShock much at all. It's got a great story, atmosphere, and art design, but the game is tedious as hell.
13. Haven't played either
14. Haven't played either
15. Team Fortress 2. I fucking hate Counter Strike.
16. Call of Duty 4. Black Ops was mediocre, didn't help that the PC version still doesn't fucking work. 4 is still one of my favorite shooters.

Edit: Whoops, realized that it was KOTOR vs ME2 not ME1. Edited accordingly.

3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1 - Mass Effect.

5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1 - Half Life

9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all) - Think Dragon Age Origins was about the most replay friendly game ever, but love Oblivion more.

11. God of War vs Prince of Persia (the PS2 games) - Prince of Persia

15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2 - Counter strike.
16. Call of Duty MW 1 vs Call of Duty BO - MW every time.

1. Chrono Trigger vs Chrono Cross - Doesn't matter, all JRPG's suck.
2. Planescape Torment vs Baldur's Gate 2 - I don't really like story-heavy games, but Baldur's Gate 2 had better gameplay.
3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1 - Same as above, but I'll have to go with Mass Effect 2 for the combat.
4. Final Fantasy 7 vs any other Final Fantasy (you choose one) - Doesn't matter, all JRPG's suck.
5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1 - Tough one, but Half-Life has aged much better then Deus Ex.
7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3 - Fallout 1. Nothing against Fallout 3, I love that game, but I love Fallout much more.
8. Gothic 2 vs Morrowind - I only played Gothic 1 and hated the terrible control scheme (it was bad even if you did change it) so I'll go with Morrowind, even though I though it was pretty bad too (flameshield up).
9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all) - Oblivion. Hate BioWare, find their games boring.
10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - Splinter Cell.
11. God of War vs Prince of Persia (the PS2 games) - God of War.
12. Bioshock vs System Shock 2 - I'll have to go with Bioshock because of the setting.
13. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer - I like football but not the games. Let's just go with NHL.
14. DotA vs Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends - League, never played the others.
15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2 - CS easily.
16. Call of Duty MW 1 vs Call of Duty BO - CoD4 easily. Any CoD beats Black Ops, the multi-player was boring as hell compared to the others, even 3.

Bolded my winners.

3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1 - Very tough call, but KOTOR had more of a wow factor the first time I played it. ME2 pissed me off a bit because of some of the removals from ME1. Still a couple of great games though. Although I felt like I spent half of my time in ME2 playing annoying mini-games.

5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1 - The greatest game ever made beats all. I played it again a couple of months ago and HL1 doesn't hold up as well as I'd hoped. Or maybe the later stages were never fun.

7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3 - I will know soon. Bought Fallout 1 and 2 off GOG.com recently. Very much looking forward to playing them.

8. Gothic 2 vs Morrowind - Morrowind beats all RPGs, ever.

9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all) - Tough call. Oblivion's levelling system ruined the game for me and I didn't like the lack of variety in the world compared to Morrowind. I also didn't like the factions very much. Technically the mods could solve the levelling issue at least, but until I try it that way, it's not as good as DA:O.

10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - I got bored of chaos theory and stopped playing after a few hours in both my attempted play throughs. I liked the original SC though (but still not as much as MGS... except MGS2).

12. Bioshock vs System Shock 2 - I really liked Bioshock but SS2 is a special game.

15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2 - not a big fan of either really.

1. Chrono Trigger vs Chrono Cross
I haven't been able to play a lot of Chrono Cross, but I prefer the latter based on what I have been able to play. Chrono Trigger was very good, but the story didn't draw me in as much I had hoped it would. The next step wasn't always clear.

4. Final Fantasy 7 vs any other Final Fantasy (you choose one)
I prefer Final Fantasy X to VII. The battle system in X is slicker (it's grown on me), and the story appealed to me more than the story in VII. Furthermore, the world in X is beautiful. It's more colourful and natural (though I know the world in VII is suited to its theme and story).

(I'll admit that I also have a particular fondness for X because it's what drew me into the series as a whole. I wouldn't have played VII if X hadn't been good!)

1. Chrono Trigger vs Chrono Cross

Chrono Trigger. Cross had some awesome music (scars of time [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J46RY4PU8a8] gives me goosebumps) but the story didn't really capture my attention.

3. Mass Effect 2 vs KotoR 1

Mass Effect 2. I prefer an original world over star wars, since the star wars universe is a bit of a huge clusterfuck.

4. Final Fantasy 7 vs any other Final Fantasy (you choose one)

Seven is the best in the series, in my opinion. Only the older ones can measure up due to nostalgia. Haven't played 10-13, but from what I've seen, they seem pretty mediocre. FF9 was pretty cool. FF8 sucked.

5. Half-Life 1 vs Deus Ex 1

Half-Life 1 takes me back. Nostalgia wins this round.

9. Dragon Age Origins vs Oblivion (with mods and all)

Dragon Age is my favorite RPG of all time. Oblivion, while good, is not.

11. God of War vs Prince of Persia (the PS2 games)

Prince of Persia came out of nowhere and totally kicked ass. Great gameplay and a great story. God of War I got after the hype, so I knew it would be good, but after the epic beginning with the hydra, the game slowed down a bit. I kept waiting for another huge boss battle that just never came.

12. Bioshock vs System Shock 2

System Shock 2. The story is great in both, though I found Bioshock... well, the twists were unpredictable, but they came at very predictable times. I didn't know exactly what was going to happen, but I knew exactly when it was going to happen, if that makes sense. Besides that, SS2 had better level design (less linear) and a better villain.

4. Final Fantasy 7 vs any other Final Fantasy (you choose one)

There are lots of Final Fantasy games, and most are absolutely amazing. They are individually so good, that your favourite is purely your opinion. Final Fantasy 7 was the first game I remember playing, and is one of the best PS1 games ever, but the winner for me is Final Fantasy 5. Better characters, better locations, better gameplay, and a beautiful soundtrack. The story wasn't as good, but Final Fantasy 5 is still my favourite Final Fantasy.

7. Fallout 1 vs Fallout 3

I haven't even played Fallout 1, but that's where my votes going. I hated Fallout 3. It was way too hard.

11. God of War vs Prince of Persia

I've only played the Prince of Persia series, so this one might change in the near future, when I but the God of War collection.

13. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer

FIFA

15. Counter-Strike vs Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2, without a doubt.

Alright I'll play.

1. Chrono Trigger > Chrono Cross
2. just a decent story, poor gameplay < Baldur's Gate 2
3. Mass Effect 2 > the highly overrated KotoR 1
4. Final Fantasy 7 << FF: Tactics, aka the only good FF
5. Half-Life 1 < Deus Ex 1
7. Fallout 1 > Fallout 3
8. Gothic 2 > Morrowind
9. Dragon Age Origins > the second to worst high profile WRPG ever made
10. Metal Gear Solid 3 vs Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (both games lose)
11. God of War < Prince of Persia (close)
12. Bioshock < System Shock 2
13. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer (both equally uninteresting)
14. DotA vs Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends (don't know)
15. Counter-Strike < Team Fortress 2 (before the hats)
16. Call of Duty MW 1 > Call of Duty BO
