Whelp, that's a thing.

*shakes head*

I mean, what can I say about it? Its levels of sad pandering speaks for itself.

I don't even see the problem. It seems to just be a lad's magazine, but with gaming and tech instead of sport.

Also *tips fedora* to everyone in this thread banging on about it being demeaning to women and then insulting and judging the women in it for doing things of their own free will, and *tipping intensifies* for the edgy cunts talking about how the cover girl is totally not attractive. Because feminism is women doing exactly what you want them to.

Who the fuck cares? It's a glamour-shot magazine with a vague gamer-theme attached to it (and mostly unattractive surgery- and photoshop-victims as models). What's the problem there? Nobody forces you to read it, none of the models were forced to model for it. Now stuff your moral police-sensability to where it belongs and try to find something to get het up about, that needs some attention.
Also what this guy said. The ratio of outrage-to-reason here is proper fucked.

I just don't understand this at all.

Heh. In before it becomes a huge success. Remember that one company that was selling a service where you could talk to a girl over Xbox Live while you play games? Remember how everyone laughed at it? Remember how when the service launched they were flooded with more customers than they could keep up with? Never underestimate the profitability of the lonely nerd.
Seriously that was a thing? Wow.

I really do not get this at all. Like, this weird fetishism of girl gamers I hear people talking about has absolutely no correlation to the actual experience of being a female gamer so I'm just like ????????????????.
Eh, people have different experiences, you know? I mean, I hear non-stop about how women are degraded and picked on for being gamers, yet I've never had that experience myself. As a matter of fact, I've never been treated as anything but a gamer who happens to be girl, bar the occasional white knighting from guys who think I'm some great martyr for being a female gamer - which honestly, is something I find more annoying than trash talk.

Anyway, point is, there is no "actual experience of being a female gamer." Everyone has different experiences. There's probably been plenty of women who got a tidal wave of romantic attention for being gamers - just because you aren't on of them, doesn't mean they're not there.

Why in the mother of fuck do people, especially games, need a magazine to jack off too? Whats teh points? Just Google "Sexy Gamer Girl" or "Hot Nerd/Geek" into Google! It's not that difficult!

This can't be real. This has got be like one of the failed pitch covers that they rejected and somehow leaked. It looks like something from a Secondary School Media Class from the weird smelly kid who gets shit for being a douche to girls. I refuse to believe this is genuine.

I'm actually really glad that nearly everyone seems to be on the same page about this. It's the only sexism thread we've had where most people are in the same mind.

I honestly thought this was going to be a mag for female gamers, so seeing that cover was a hell of a shock. It's absolutely the lowest form of pandering.

I've gotta say, sexism aside, overall this is an incredibly amateurish effort. Terrible photoshop, awkward outfits and poses (what the fuck are those glasses...), and apparently nothing related to gaming other than the controllers. Seriously, at least make some shit up about their favorite League of Legends characters or whatever. A niche for this fetish (I guess gaming girls is a fetish?) probably exists, but this magazine is hardly going to penetrate [footnote]no pun intended[/footnote]it.

3/10, wouldn't read even if someone left it in the dorm bathroom stalls.
It's just a softcore porn magazine, it's not trying to pass off as real. Let's stop taking it seriously.
Hey, judging by the Maxim, Playboy, and Esquire magazines that people left in the bathroom stalls during my freshman year, softcore porn generally holds itself to a higher standard than this!
Nah it's just another way of saying there's no genitalia in it.

Well, it's not the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Not for lack of trying, mind you. But I'm sure it'll appeal to the "pocket-mining demographic" who apparently have forgotten that there's stuff like this on the Internet, or who don't know how to get around the family computer's parental lock.

Oh.

Poor naive little me saw the thread title and thought it was going to be about a magazine aimed at girls who played games. I was anticipating yet another gender debate about representation and all that jazz. (EDIT: And now you changed the thread title to something more sensationalist and attention grabbing. and people will wonder how I made that mistake. When I clicked on it it just said "Gamer Girls Magazine".)

Incidentally, that is one damn fine bow tie. I'm just sayin'.
Yeah I'm with you I thought they're making a gamer mag aimed at women? Nope...so will they make a Gamer Guyz addition showcasing sexy men? You know now that they've decided to essentially make playboy for male gamers why not playgirl for fem gamers?

I think I understand what they were going for and frankly, I wouldn't call it any of those horrible words in the title... I mean it's no more demeaning or sexist than any other magazine full of half-naked women. No, i'm not going to argue whether the entire genre of half-naked magazines should be banned, I really don't have the energy for that now. Let's just pretend we agree that it's a valid genre of magazines that has a right to exist, for the sake of argument.

Well this magazine in particular is not the devil. It's just incredibly poorly conceived with virtually no understanding of the target audience. I mean, look at Playboy. Arguably no better than this when it comes to 'objectification' and 'sexism' and somesuch but that shit is at least a good read. Mostly.

Does this make me angry? Fuck no. It's a bunch of girls who believe are pretty enough to show off their bodies. It's their choice to make. I'm not going to go around telling them how what they're doing is sexist and demeaning, for what I care they can do what they want with their bodies. No, 'insulting' isn't the word I'd use to describe this. I'd go for 'hilarious'. Brilliant in the 'so bad it's good' kind of way.

As for the people who came up with the idea? If you want to make a nude magazine aimed at people who play games... I say bring it. Just... you know... do some research. Try to understand your target demo. Don't just keep throwing around random words that you think have anything to do with the subculture you're targeting while mixing up said subculture with others to the point where it scares away all of them. Now I think I'm secure enough with who I am to not feel insulted by this magazine trying to tell me I'm some slobbering, sexually frustrated teenager with a stupid cap and the word 'swag' printed on my tshirt. That said, the fact that the authors don't realise they are more likely to insult their target audience than to attract them is, to me, INCREDIBLY funny.

I mean, come on. They actually think there's some secret technique to holding a bloody controller that you need to master if you want to play. That's WONDERFUL. It's comedy gold.

...I may have a weird sense of humour.

1.) She has gigantic breasts. Those just look horrible.
2.) She wears glasses. Those are always terrible looking.
3.) Suspenders? Really? Come on now, at least wear a nice sun dress.
4.) She looks like she is 40. Who finds this attractive?
5.) Her face just looks gaunt as hell. Does she cosplay as Skeletor on the side?
That 5th comment made me laugh so hard you don't even know. Somehow I tihnk if she was cosplaying Skeletor this magazine wouldn't be getting quite as much flack.

Honestly after reading the article this thread is based off this becomes funnier. One of the girls said if given a choice what to play games on she prefers to game on an Iphone.

I mean come on, they aren't even trying to hide the fact that this is a cheap porn magazine and that the girls couldn't give less of a toss about video games. But most importantly it shows that they don't understand their audience, and let's be honest here, the only people who will(sadly) buy this are hardcore gamers, because if you aren't much of a gamer then you'd just pick up playboy. Now that'd be fine, if Hardcore gamers weren't people who often put their nose up at Iphone games and consider them a, "lesser medium".
The obvious counter argument to this point is, "People aren't buying this for the games", but the thing is they are! This magazine is trying to sell through a gimmick, and if it makes it this obvious that the gimmick is fake then people will(should) just ignore it.

Also - for a final point - I just need to ask? Who is this marketed at? This is a general question for these magazines as well. Why does anyone actually buy these when Porn is available for free on the internet?

The internet has given me the impression that men hate "fake gamer girls" 3 times more than actual women complain about them, therefore I have to believe that it's a fake magazine created by a troll.

I find this incredibly hilarious in a horrible way. But it seems to me like a simple adult magazine (aka porn). It's not that offensive if its primary usage will be as wanking material. Rather then decry this idea I would very much like to see this expanded to encompass the other sex as well. Now that would be true equality rather then censorship.

I do wonder what her game stats are, though.

LMAO

Niche or not that's so stupendously and magnificently pandering in it's misogyny it's actually quite hysterical in it's lack of shame. Well It's pretty insulting too. Gamers have to fight enough for respect as it is, not to mention how this portrays the female portion of gamers (I hate the term "Gamer Girl" or anything similar).

Burn it before the over-conservatives catch whiff of it and have yet another reason to harass us.

Edit: And if it's a gimmick porn mag, it still sucks.

If you need to extenuate the fact someone is female, yeah, attention seeking in its finest.

A gamer is a gamer, male or female.

Ha...ha...ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.

I'm sorry, but this is really retarded.
It's pandering, and bad pandering at that.

Maybe it's 'sexist', but the cover girl is just UGLY to me.
Too much Photoshop, in a creepy way.
