The stereotype of a gamer is we are fat, lazy, we live in a basement with foam swords and a castle, and can always end up embarrassing ourselves. But I want to know is this true do some gamers really do this or is it just a false stereotype?

Fat- Nope. I'm 5'10" and weight 135 lbs.
Lazy- Sometimes, but when I want something I work very hard, and I'm not one to ever give up.
Live in a basement- I live in a dorm, actually.
Has foam swords and a castle- I have an actual sword if that counts, but it's just for decoration. I don't know how to use it properly.
Always end up embarrassing myself- only when I'm high, but I only do that with my close friends so it's not really a problem.

I know at least two or three people that fit all of those descriptors except the 'foam sword' thing (their swords are even worse - they are "real," by which I mean they are flimsy replicas that are put up as decorations next to anime wall scrolls and water damage) and the 'castle,' which I have no idea what you mean by. One of the guys has a lego castle, but there aren't very many actual castles in Western Canada, and I doubt many people own their own even in old Europe.

its true... there are people like that who go on the school computers and play starcraft, and they cramp my style because i am known to like gaming and do a lot of work in the computer lab, but dont take gaming to that rediculouse point

I am a little on the tubby side but I do play in a well ventilated area with lots of sunlight. I am also trying to lose a little flab because being overweight affects your ability to take equipment to LAN parties. I don't really have a fantasy castle in my basement, but I do have character sheets floating around and the Star Trek Role-playing Game Core Book on my bedside table for light reading.

Same here, except I don't have a sword.

I think the TC means foam castles. the stuff you buy in prefab slabs and slot together to create Fort McGuffin.

I am lazy and continuously make a cock of myself but that does not mean I fit into this stereotype you just made up.
Seriously no one I know thinks that is the case. Especially not the LARPing stuff.

For me at least, the accusation of being lazy is fairly accurate. The rest of it about owning foam swords, always being embarrassed, and being fat aren't. I don't live in the basement either, though that has more to do with us not having one.

I'm reminded of a saying "all stereotypes have a basis in reality", whether this stereotype still holds up or not will probably be answered with a no it does not, but at one time this was the case.
