Well me and my friends are gamers, we're first line of our rugby team and generally scare some people because we are neither fat or lazy

Is this a bad joke? I mean, it's bad. But it's a joke, right?
God I hope so but I have to admit the comments under the movie are ridiculously funny.

I'm in good shape right now, (sick, but in good shape) and have been on my horey 2001 laptop in bed for the last hour or so. I barely EVER do any of those.

Fat - No
Lazy - Only now but I got made redundant!!
Basement - Live with the folks yes but I am only 20 >_<
Foam swords and a castle - I wish
Embarrassing ourselves - Hmm well a little haha.

That stereotype died out a while ago. We evolved :D

im in shape. im lazy, but thats more to do with doing my schoolwork. sadly, i do have a foam sword in my house that i used to roleplay as a dwarf at this camp i went to. however, play CTF with swords and then say its nerdy.

The stereotype of a gamer is we are fat, lazy, we live in a basement with foam swords and a castle, and can always end up embarrassing ourselves. But I want to know is this true do some gamers really do this or is it just a false stereotype?
I am fat, but I am also losing weight. I am lazy or maybe just depressed. I live in a basement. I have a sword but it is a real sword. I embarrass myself at times when I try to talk to people. I usually stutter or something.

Fat- I have a healthy BMI, but I have a very... fertile body build.
Lazy- I think I am, but considering my achievements, I would say not.
basement- Never. I will never.
foam swords and castle- I did fencing, if that counts.
Embarassing ourselves- I'm clueless in an endearing way, but I present very well to people whose opinions really matter.

The real irony is that all my friends have started hanging out at the local tabletop gaming shop, playing magic nonstop for hours...
Really, they're just desperate; all the young males either hang out at the skate park, coffee shops, or that place. The skater boys are... iffy people, the guys at the coffee shop are either gay or taken, leaving the nerd boys as their last resort.

That place doesn't feel right; those are the same people that gave me near death glares...

I'm a rugby player, 135 lbs, and have a very active social life.
I run 5 miles and hit the gym 3 times a week, and more once the season ends.
I spend most of my free time gaming and all my friends game as well.
None of us fit the stereotype, at all. I can honestly say I've never met someone who does.
<< I will admit to being a klutz and ebarassing myself though. Fairly often actually...

Steroetypes always have something to base their points upon, but are never the majority.

Fat- No, I'm 6 foot, weigh 13 stone and I go to the gym 3 times a week for a 2 hour workout.
Lazy- I can be lazy at times, but then again so can everyone. If there is something worth working for, then I'm an extremely determined person.
Live in a basement- I'm 18 so I do still live with my parents, but not in the basement xD
Has foam swords and a castle- Unfortunately I don't have a castle... but I do have two real swords... medievil items are one of my interests =P
Always end up embarrassing myself- Hmmm... I'm usualy the centre of attention in a group when I go out since I'm extremely sociable and not shy... So I can occasionaly act foolish for amusement, but it never causes me embarrassment.

Overall, I have nothing in common with this stereotype and I've been gaming for the last 8 years.

i'm as skinny as hell, which is one gamer stereotype, and i have glasses... but i do have other hobbies, and i do own several weapons, but none of them are gaming related. My dad even owns a katana for purpose of genuine practice.

EDIT: more info! i AM extraordinarily lazy, and i really hate the fact that i am. i'm 18 and do live with my parents, but i'm still doing A levels and will probably move out when i get to university. we don't have a basement, but i live in the attique :p

Eh.

Slightly fat, but I'm trying to lose it. 6" & 221 lbs but I'm also a pretty big guy, if it wasn't for medical reasons I'd be a decent rugby player (and would've lost the weight).

I don't have a basement, I'm sitting near the kitchen in the extra room with my tortoises.
No foam weapons. I am lazy though, which doesn't help. I just need to find somethign that catches my interest as much as games do.

Unfortunately... stereotypes are based on fact.

I'm sure there are a lot of fat and lazy gamers out there. I may not be in shape exactly... but I'm not fat as hell. But I admit, I sure as hell am lazy.

My laziness generally comes from my lack of interest in the outside world... which is why I consider myself an Escapist.. hence being in The Escapist forums. I enjoy escaping reality.. that's the type of gamer I am.

My physical features are just fine.

Also.. no foam swords er whatever.. and I have a nice big room.. no basement.

dont have a basement
im about 6"3' and 80 kg, so not fat
me and my cousin (another gamer) have real katanas
i dont really get the castle bit
i think this this stereotype applies more to the MMO player (even though most of the people that i know that play WoW are hot chicks)
laziness may apply a bit actually

Belive it or not Im really skinny, xD Im actually trying to GAIN weight.
The only reason Im skinny is because I have to take some medication, it gives me fast motablism only bad thing is, my girlfriend has a fetish for tummys (dont ask because i dont know either.)
No Matter how many big macs I eat I will always lose the weight that took me 1 week to gain in like i dunno 5 days maybe?
I hate it -_-
Besides that, I dont have swords, I dont live in a basement, and I stopped embarrassing myself ever since I flipped out at school.
Stereotypes are retarded *wheeeeeeeeeeezeee* wut.

I'm only lazy and stuck in one place because of a broken foot right now, Aside from that I have a very active social life, im the only gamer in my circle of friends, and I am underweight. As for making a fool of myself, you don't need to play games to do that, I was doing that way before I started gaming
sounds like me, but my foot's fine =P
