Trust me, I've heard bad music from all the ages and I really want to forget alot of it.

I've never heard the stereotype that gamers have bad taste in music. Maybe they think we all listen to chiptune or something, which can have a pretty narrow audience.

I enjoy all kinds of things, mainly progressive rock/metal.

So I get all kinds of mixture in my music with that.

I find Metalheads to have a bad taste in music because they for some reason find other types of music to be "inferior" and close off there music pallet. A lack of variety to me, is a the closest you can have to a bad taste in music.

Erm, can either of you post links to a board post or blog that illustrates this stereotype? I frequent some music boards and blogs and I've never come across anything like that.

Unfortunately I cannot give you any links (typical eh?), because the most obvious example I know of is the board for the group of people I actually make music with in real life and that is a private board. Unfortunately, despite my defenses for gamers on there, they still consider me the exception to their stereotype, rather than both music and games being unconnected when it comes to taste. I must say in all honesty, on public boards, I've not been able to find much in the way of stereotyping against gamers. Still, the stereotype does exist among music-minded folk, otherwise I wouldn't have to defend myself to them as both a music lover and a gamer .

Yes, this is indeed a rather pervasive stereotype on music boards. But, let's be honest and counter with our own stereotype: aren't all music nerds really strongly elitist at heart anyway?

To clarify: i'm not opposed to all metal. But most metalheads i've met won't listen to anything unless it has the most growly, screamy "singing" and the grindingest guitars imaginable. Personally, i do like prog-metal and speed metal, but i've never been a fan of thrash, death, or black, which seem to be the predominant sub-genres among gamers.

I'm not like that at all, I'll listen to any music, provided it's taken some talent to create. I listen to Metalcore, Hardcore type stuff, and I love it. I also love Rap, D&B, Dubstep, Dance, Trance...

I for one don't believe it is true. I've seen gamers with good taste in music and bad taste in music. But it is all subjective anyway.

I file it under "Italians are obsessed with watermelon" and "Irishmen make excellent accountants." That is to say, I file it with all the other fake stereotypes people have pulled out of hats for the sake of argument.
