What a fucking coward.
If you were intending to mug or rape, i'm sure you would not got for the guy who is twice as big as you.

Anyway, games had nothing to do with this. Stupid paper.

To actually make this a discussion thread and not a "my dad's pissed me off because he's always banging on about games making people violent and now this has given him what he thinks is solid proof" thread, any of you lot had something similar happen near where you live?
You may have heard of Stefan Pakeerah [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/3934277.stm] and Manhunt.

You may also have heard of Keith Vaz.

But lets not dwell on unpleasantries. Let's tear apart that little piece of journalism.

A SCHOOLBOY(relevancy?) jailed for four (four what?) yesterday for raping a teenage girl had stormed out of his house (supposition [unsupported]) after spending hours (nonspecific) playing war games (supposition [unsupported]) on his computer(supposition [unsupported]).

After a row with his mother over the amount of time he was spending playing the game (Game now, not games? This row obviously didn't amount to anything other than that?), the 14-year-old left (That's a schoolboy now?) home with the intention (supposition [unsupported]) of mugging the first person he saw. He took a kitchen knife (supposition [unsupported] unless you're telling me you can be sure it was his knife)and home-made(Because that makes all the difference) balaclava with him.(supposition [unsupported])

After first ignoring a heavily-built man,(supposition [unsupported]) he turned his attention (supposition [unsupported])to a 19-year-old who was making her way home from town late on 13 October.(Details are irrelevant here, as well as "late"?) After following her to the Westmount area, he forced her into a field at knifepoint before subjecting her to brutal rape.(Because there's such a thing as non-brutal rape)

(We're casually ignoring the idea that a pre-meditated rape removes the idea of anger, but hey...)

Yesterday, the boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was jailed for four years by the Royal Court.
Wonderful piece of journalism. Bergerac would be proud.

Most telling point? There's no name attached to it.

I would say blame the parents, but is that really any better than saying 'blame the games'?
You know what I say? Blame the kid. If he was metaphorically retarded enough to go out and do something like that then clearly he doesn't deserve to be given a scapegoat. How about instead of making him sound like a victim we consider the real victims in this and lock the idiot away for an extra 20 years? Sound good? Fantastic.

Are they not even going to investigate for a real cause of this idiotic teenage boy's actions?
Sure it's easy to blame video games, but this worries me; are the police, media and psychiatrists really going to resort to a simple (probably wrong) answer, such as video games caused it?
These are serious cases and they're blaming war games...for cases of rape... Ugh.

I feel horrible about the victim, and I hope that boy gets what he deserves.

To bring it back to the original question, back in high school we had a murder, but the guy was on drugs at the time so it was pretty clear-cut.

Then again, that was the same year as Columbine, so video games were just about to get the shit-kicking of a lifetime.

If the police got the info out of him that his sole intention was to mug someone and he had second thoughts on it when someone who could overpower him came along, he's a fucking coward.

He intended to mug someone but being a sexual predator (who are opportunists) the minute he saw a pretty young girl he did something terrible to someone who he felt couldn't fight back.

Also note that it was described as a "brutal rape", that means the poor girl was seriously hurt.

Once again, people see a causal relationship and just assumes it goes the way that's convenient for them. Why this hasn't been made into something like Godwin's Law is beyond me. It's like saying that because Hitler was a vegetarian, then vegetarianism causes genocide.

To be fair, I don't give a damn about the girl. My only problem is you're calling him a coward for being sensible. Sensible about a crime, yes. But sensible nonetheless. Lets see you fight someone twice your size.

Obviously he did it because of the frustration he got with his mom.

But noooooooooo, news says it must have been the video games. He was TOTALLY going to mug/rape someone without his mom getting in his way.

So you think he's sensible?.

Your right, although he probably learned that little don't fight bigger shits than you from WOW or Borderlands.

If he'd played a game like Unreal where you don't level up so its all about reactions times then he would have taken on Big Fella instead of raping a girl that no one cares about.

edit, whats fair about not giving a damn about a girl that got raped?, could someone explain that to me please.

Well games is the new common media that every kid or kid like adult plays or at lease consumes some time with. So like Rap, strange cartoons or games...it will be blamed if something goes wrong and ignored if not attention grabing headline news is made about it..

Everyone loves a scapegoat for something anyway...

Four years? That's it? Seems a little short.
A thirteen year old who raped a woman then stole the phone to call the boyfriend and him about it only got three because he said sorry, he also will probably only have 1 or 2 because of his age.
I read about this one this morning. Its so stupid because that was blamed on videogames too

Where is the connection between rape and war games coming from? It's not like many games he was probably playing were filled with rape(I bet I could count the amount of war games with rape in them on 1 hand.), and the blame is clearly on anger mixing with hormones anyway.

Sorry to say but how can a 14year old overpower a grown up woman, that said sick kid, sick newspaper and worthless parents.

I played GTA and Carmageddon, gave myself sex-ed all before the age of 10 and I am fine.
