I need some advice: My dad wants some games and i´m not sure what to recommend. He likes games with varied gameplay, not too complex, light on story and not too retro. He has a pc with a geforce 5700 so newer games are out of question. Half-life is his favourite game, but he also liked portal, metal gear solid, and The Ball. So, can you recommend him some games?

Maybe Civilization, or a Total War game? I've never met a dad who didn't at least have a passing interest in history, especially military history.

That´s way too complex for him, but thanks anyway.

A Hermit's Cave
Deus Ex: Human Revolution?
Assassin's Creed series?

Prototype would be fun... quite brainless, that game...

EDIT: And what the hell is that, Arabic?!

Does he like sports, or music? If so, then I recommend Total Extreme Wrestling 2010 or Bowl Bound for sports, and Audiosurf for music. I could recommend Guitar Hero, but I don't know how PC friendly the idea is, and Frets On Fire just seems to be for people who want a "challenge". The same people who think I Want To Be The Guy is "too easy", and really hate their hands for some reason.

Get him a simple RPG. Something he could sink plenty of time into, so I suggest Oblivion/Morrowind would be viable choices if newer games (Skyrim) are out of the question as you said.

A friends girlfriend got her father Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 and I got the same for my older sister. They're great for getting to play with the ones you give them to.

Hmmm... what about the older GTA games?

And not even AC1? It's system requirements aren't all that high...

Still, how's he for RTS's?
He doesn´t like gta when he saw me playing.
And nothing next-gen works on his pc.

He is going to play alone so left 4 dead is out of the question.
Man, my dad sure is picky!

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force is a very solid shooter, and old enough that it shouldn't have any problems with his hardware. I replayed it a while ago, and it ages well. The story is passable, but not intrusive (especially if he tolerate Metal Gear's cutscenes!) so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure if the gameplay could be called varied, but the level design is very good, so despite the face that I have a low attention span, I was never bored. So that's my first recommendation.

And if he liked Half-Life 1, I'll assume he's played the sequel? If not, that's an obvious choice.

Serious Sam: The First Encounter has no story worth mentioning, and should run without a hitch, so he could try that. Far Cry is cool too. So are Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Call of Duty II.

All shooters, I know, but those were all I could think of within those criteria.

Edit: Also, both Max Payne games. I personally love the atmosphere and story, but they are easy to ignore if you don't care. Also, Bulletime = funtime.

Edit 2: I think that Metal Gear Solid 2 actually exists for the PC as well, so if he hasn't tried that either, go with it.

Try call of duty 1 and 2, possible gta3, mincraft and the first two red facton games.
Edit: ITs a bit slow paced gameplay but the first splinter cell might be good.

Good ideas, im gonna look for splinter cell, red faction and the star trek game.
PD:He skipped the cutscenes in metal gear, he doesn´t know english. And he really liked hl2 and the episodes.

How about "Thief" series ? Old games, but man, the atmosphere, the setting makes its ancient graphics irrelevant. :)

Also try Echo Bazaar. It's MMO internet browser game. Easy to learn, taking a place in steampunk setting with some gothic elements. Verrrrrrry interesting.

Well tell him to get a new computer or go to gog.com. Honestly that's all I can really say with that graphics card.

Do you think he might be intrested in MMORPGs?
If he is a fan(or just likes the movies) LOTRO could be fun for him to try. It's a more challenging than WoW, for example, but you can still faceroll through the content with the basic classes.
I can tell you a lot more if it peaks some intrest. It's free as well, so it won't hurt to try, but as usual you need to subscribe to get all the perks(you only have to do it once if you create lots of characters during the paid period :F).

Edit: Perhaps you should add that he doesn't speak English in the OP. Guess MMOs are out of the question then.
Try the FEAR games perhaps. The story is pretty irrelevant. You just need to shoot your way to the next room all the time, and since he loved Half-Life it might be a decent choice.

Psychonauts would seem an obvious suggestion; it can be had very cheaply on Steam and is an action/puzzle/platformer. I'd also suggest Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time.

What does your dad think of survival horror? The Penumbra games should run on any vaguely competent computer.

All of those three are decidedly last-gen and available for low prices on Steam.

I agree with Fear would be a good choice. There isn't a much dialogue. And somebody mentioned the first Farcry, a good choice also. What language does he speak because many games support other languages.

Happy gamning, the Prisoner.
