Hey Guys,

I'm really interested in getting my mom into some games, I feel like she's missing out simply because of the learning curve. I realise that Call of Duty 4 might not be her thing (she loves crime stuff) but I know she's open to the media, but the learning curve is too great at this point.

Is there any game that has a low enough learning curve, and is also high quality and has a good story - that it might convince her that theres some worth in taking the next step up into harder games.

I've already tried portal, but she didn't know what a portal was, and also how to move in an FPS. We're not ready for that yet.

Please bear in mind that Im on PC !!

Peggle. No need for story when it's that addictive.

Good luck trying to get on the computer after introducing her to that.

If she's truly looking for mainstream, big budget games, I can't really think of one to suit her tastes. Is there something you've shown her that she did enjoy?

Best introduction would probably be something like wii sports. when all you need to learn is swing a remote it shouldn't be too hard ;)

Just kidding, Wii Sports is a good choice though and can be fun for lots of people

A while ago Rockstar were giving away the first 2 GTA titles as a free download on their site, the old birds eye view ones. If they still are, you should try them out.

Dead Space 2!

...oh wait, no, that's not right is it?

No, seriously: if she likes crime stuff, you could do a lot worse than the various CSI games. They're point-and-click sort of things so they'd be alright for a gaming novice to pick up and play without any trouble.

I've got a game for her, right here in my pants...

Most of the Wii stuff is great for mums. It gives them the illusion of getting fit while having fun.

And we all know that isn't possible.

If she likes crime, then maybe wait for LA Noire? If she doesn't like it you get a great game.
But the safest bet is probably popcap and Wii and such.

Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People may be worth looking into. It's a point-and-click adventure like King's Quest, but set in the Homestar Runner universe.

I don't mean casual games like peggle - I looking for deep and meanful games; and the point and click games are waaay to hard/frustrating. I tried the CSI games, but Im not going to start her with rubbish games.

I'm in two minds not to just let her try portal again, or even minecraft.

Hmm what about the sims - you think that might work?

I second this. I think my mother 100%'ed PvZ by now. She doesn't play much else though.

Alternatively you could try something like Prince of Persia (4... I think). The controls could be a bit hard but the game never really punishes you with a big GAME OVER, YOU LOSE/HAVE DIED etc. screen.

My mum loves stuff like the Sims and Tycoon games, things where you have to make things and are in control of a little world. Stuff like Pharaoh and Age of Empires, too.

If you had a Nintendo console I'd have definitely recommended Harvest Moon games.

If you had to choose between Pharaoh/caesar III, age of empires, rollercoaster tycoon, sims, simcity, civV or any other strategy -

which do you think is the most "Mom" friendly?

I love rts and city builder games, and tbh with mothers day around the corner, I'd love this to be the year I got my mom into gaming.
