Hello Escapists.

Here's the deal. My girlfriend isn't much of a gamer. She's not very dexterous on the thumbsticks, and last time I tried getting her to play an FPS with me (even coop) proved... challenging.

So other than Sims 3 over Christmas break, she really hasn't gamed much in the last 1.5yrs we've been together (and boy did she ever binge on Sims 3!). She's mentioned some games she used to play when she was younger (she's from China so nothing I've heard of) but I know one was a Pirate RPG that she just loved.

Now, one game of mine she really like is Assassin's Creed 2. Just last week she I got her to try it, this time starting her own game, and she beat the game by the weekend! Now she's started Brotherhood, but when she's done that I don't really have anything else for her to play that she might like. She did try Dragon Age Origins, and said she might be interested in playing it some more but we'll see... I don't think she's too interested.

So the question I pose to the Escapists is, what are some games similar to Assassin's Creed 2? It must be on PS3, by the way. And one of the aspects she likes most about the game is the setting/era so anything renaisance would probably be a bonus.

Well Batman Arkham Asylum is sorta like Assassins creed with the whole stealth and beating people up.

Hmm, yes that's true. Similar gameplay, but she wouldn't care about the story or setting.

How about Sid Meier's Pirates!? I have no idea if it's on PS3 though. Doubt it.

edit: seems like it isn't :\ I'm sorry, I don't think I can come up with anything that isn't on PC.

Hrrm, that's a tough one. My fiance likes games but doesn't LOVE them. There are only a handful he is willing to play. He too really enjoyed Assasin's Creed. Other than that he's played Infamous and he liked that one as well.

The Sly Collection, I haven't played it so I don't know if there are many changes from the PS2 originals. That's all I can really think of.

Red Dead Redeption? Also, if you have a PS3 have a go at inFamous.
Oh maybe! I actually have Red Dead and now that you've mentioned it she did express some interest in that one, so maybe that's a good one. inFamous I've heard a lot of good things about, but I've actually never played it.

How about any games with maybe different gameplay mechanics but just that are set in the 1400-1700s?

Well, the first Assassin's Creed game is also good, but the setting and story aren't as cool. Prince of Persia (The Sands of Time is probably the best one) is similar to Assassin's Creed in the free-running/climbing, and combat. It was also made by the same people who made Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft), so that's a plus.

The Saboteur has some similar kind of building climbing (I won't call it parkour...it's not that elegant). And it's open-world like Assassin's Creed.

Think Grand Theft Auto mixed with Assassin's Creed.

Oh that might be a good one! Thanks for the suggestions.

Sly 2 especially. The other two less so, but Sly 2 is very structurally similar to Assassin's Creed in that it's set in an open environment, has stealthiness and climby rooftop running, and the missions in each act all build up to the one big one at the end (though arguably I think Sly 2 does this even better, it's really obvious how the missions act to set up the big heist at the end of each act).

That's what I was gonna say.
I, too, haven't played the Collection, but the originals had sneaking, pickpocketing and running around on roofs. What more do you need?

Assassin's Creed, in three characteristics, is a Stealth-based Third-Person Action-Adventure Sandbox with Freerunning elements. So let's break it down now *dance*:

Stealth Games:
Hitman: Blood Money
Thief
Alpha Protocol
Batman Arkham Asylum
Metal Gear Solid
Splinter Cell
TPAA Sandbox Games:
inFamous
Prototype
Grand Theft Auto 4
Saint's Row 2
Just Cause 2
Freerunning Games:
Mirror's Edge
Prince of Persia
...Prototype again? I'm out of ideas.

The game I compare most often to Assassin's Creed is Hitman, but that's mostly for the sake of contrast. For example, Hitman allows more creativity in assassinating your targets, but open combat not so much, etc.

Batman seems like a good choice, but it is, after all, Batman. xD

You know, from what I gather from the thread, her tastes isn't in "games like assassin's creed" but actually all over the place.
So, just let her try random stuff from your library of games, and see what happens.

Also, record data and try to properly analyse it once the sample size is sufficiently large.

Why not just try anything but an FPS? I mean, RPGs, Action Adventure games, RTS, pretty much anything that doesn't involve aiming with the joystick sounds like she'd enjoy it.
