The ending of Kane and Lynch 2 at the airport is a complete rip off of Michael Mann's film 'Heat'. Where they're on the outskirts of the airport moving stealthily around these large rectangular block things. I never really realised how hard it is to explain. If you've seen them both then you'll know what I'm on about.
Yes, I know what you mean. I love that film and the game just ruined that scene for me.

A City Interactive shooter Alcatraz rips off The Rock.

Yes.

Yes, this is the first thing that came into my mind.

Also, WaW - Enemy Of The Gates, although I'd rather write that down as an homage.

It's kind of backwards, but the first 20 or 30 minutes of Pandorum were exactly like Dead Space.
Dark spaceship halls, some dude telling you want to do all the time, same dude hiding in a safe place sending you out to do all the dangerous dirty work, very little action and lots of atmosphere.

Dead Rising 2 rips of a bunch of movies:
- F13th part 6 in particular (the charge attack for the pitchfork was used in that film to, only with a spear) and of course the hockey mask.
- Psycho, the chef knife's charge attack.
- The boomstick is of course from Army of Darkness

The overall feel of Mothership Zeta was reminiscent of those 50's alien movies.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the obvious - FFX-2 and the Charlie's Angels reboot, but, of course, that was all in good fun.

Also, I guess it would be remiss not to mention MW2 and Red Dawn. ;)

L4D2 is a rip off Dawn of the Dead. More of a homage really, but meh.
Well every piece of zombie fiction will share similar content and themes, unless the creators come up with a wildly different origin story. Dawn of the Dead was about survivors holding up in a mall, whereas L4D2 only featured a mall in its first campaign and even that was just one level. I always saw the L4D series as all the typical zombie story set pieces, locations, and conflicts all wrapped up into one experience with their own new things added for good measure.

This thread shows that a lot of people don't know the difference between a "ripoff" and a "homage" or a "reference"...
Stop that right now! Common sense has no place in these fair forums! Away with thee!

Achem...I agree, however. None of the examples presented so far pass muster unless one is willing to use extremely loose definitions of what a 'rip-off' constitutes, as, every example has either had wholly it's own story/plot and unique variation of theme/setting/characters, or has been an official derivative of another work, i.e. Lord of the Rings.

Taking a single element, like Space Marines, or Zombies, or a setting and holding that up as proof of a rip-off is just silly, as it ignores every single other factor that distinguishes the game from the book, or movie that it bears similarity to.

Deadly Premonition is a complete ripoff of Twin Peaks, even if the developer completely denies it.

I hear the same of Alan Wake, yet, I have yet to play it.

there seems to be a lot of titles here that people are claiming were "ripped-off", but I would be inclined to say more 'inspired'. Ripping-off alludes more to taking the whole story lock stock, i mean a more valid question these days would be to ask which games are TOTALLY independent and innovative in story.

And that Enslaved game and even dragon ball seems to be a take on the Monkey King legend...but with its own setting which is interesting.

Well Rage and maybe Borderlands are massive rip-offs of Mad Max...
The same could be said for Fallout, the leather armor, Dogmeat, and basically the whole "Wasteland Wanderer" motiff is either heavily influenced by Mad Max or completely ported from the movies wholesale.
