Most obvious answer imo is arcade games and old 80s classics such as ninja gaiden which are reputed now for being insanely hard.

Indeed those old games are insane the first time through, but once you know the patterns and what to do, you see people breeze through it on 1 life and appear to be psychic in how they avoid every deathtrap and dodge every enemy.

Pretty much every game where the action part doesn't require fast reflexes, can be figured out.
No AI in a strategy game has ever become good enough that it cannot be exploited.

There are some good AIs, but they are made for boardgames like chess and checkers (actually checkers has been officially solved, so it could be learned).
No AAA game developer has the budget, incentive or knowhow to make an advanced AI for their game.

So figuring the game out is the fun part, when the game has little or no action to offer. Once you have figured it out, there's little appeal in such games left (unless there's multiplayer or different game modes).

Double Dragon II: A lot of people will disagree because this game can still whip your ass if you don't play it smart all the time, but once you master the jumping spin kick and can do it over and over and over again, the game is miraculously easier.
Double Dragon 1 arcade is just the same but with the elbow of death, the game is a total cakewalk using it.

Gradius NES, although the game is quite tough in certain areas especially towards the end, the game is made much easier by memorising where all the power ups are in the first stage and quickly getting you ship fully powered up. Then it's just a case of making sure you always have a shield going and having enough power ups in stock to replace it if you take too many hits so you never die, because once you do it's back to the peashooter and hard mode.

Metro 2033.

If you sneak and arm yourself with weapons that have reusable ammo then you will dominate and have like 1000 rounds of ammo to beat the last few levels.

If you try to play the game in any other way, you will pretty much have no ammo and the last few levels will be a fucking nightmare of you squaring off with a knife against 50 nosalises, and watching Miller die over and over because you don't have enough ammo to stop those little explodey orbs.

Any game from the Assassin's Creed series. If you are new to the series, the game feels really intense. You hide from guards, get killed easily, and imagine that there are infinite possibilities to approach anything. An old pro knows that you can just run in and punch everyone to death with your bare hands without worrying about getting killed or raising the alarm.

One of the few problems in Fallout 3 actually.

I'm never gonna forget being pinned at level 3 by a super mutant brute with no ammo at all other than a sledgehammer and he had full health and a minigun and I was in a church. I was scrounging for anything when I found a laser pistol and some energy cells. I managed to escape with my life. It was perfect.

Then, I moved on to later parts of the game, I know RPG's are supposed to give a sense of progression, but I became a tank at like level 10 I believe mostly due to power armor and investments in all the right perks and such.

And then I ran into the brotherhood outcasts....load up on enclave armor, and trade it for like 20 stimpaks at a time. Repeat until you have enough stimpaks to make a "shield regen" button on your D-pad.

And then I got the dart gun, its really good but ends any sense of threat to a death claw.

On master difficulty, there were only a few things that could kill me:

Feral Ghoul Reavers
Super Mutant Masters (With Tri-beam laser rifles)
Swarmed by Death Claws

I LOVED the game but I wish it was just random in it's difficulty!

Any of the Monster Hunter series. When you first start playing, some of the monsters are just impossible to kill, but as you learn their moves and know what skill sets actually do, you have a much easier time of things.

I played through it twice and the thing that I noticed was that it was not so much as hard as tedious. I have long rants about what I don't like about the game, but your post kinda' proves that there's nothing to even look forward to without me even trying.

OT: I think the perception of the thread's a bit off. S'not the game getting any easier. You just get better.

I'd say driving/racing games, like the F1 games. Once you know how to perfect that hairpin, you'll be blazing your way to win every race.

Yeah the drawing system was quite frustrating and tedious. I sat on the Islands Closest To Hell and Heaven drawing the most powerful spells for hours and drawing from enemies takes god damn ages.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy the game, I did like it. It's just the drawing system sucked.

I agree; if a truly advanced and functional AI has been created, there's better places for it than in a videogame...

The Baldur's Gate series was a real pain in the ass, even on easy difficulty the first times i played it when i was younger.

First step was learning the actual AD&D rules and how the !%#& THAC0 and AC worked.

Second step was learning how the enemy AI and targeting mechanics worked so my mages wouldn't be the first to die every time while my armor clad warriors was standing still looking dumb.

Third step was to actually learn to use spells properly instead of just picking every attack spell i knew for all my mages and priests and just charging in. Immunities, resistances, CC protection and offensive spell protection removals are vital, and so are potions and scrolls also. Using traps for thieves (especially in BG2/ToB once thieves get access to special traps) is also vital.

Now the game is a breeze, especially if you make a custom tailored party in MP and transfer it to SP.
Very true, especially in BG2. Ridiculously hard fights like Kangaxx become trivial with the right items and spells. I guess we can blame the inherently imbalanced D&D system for that.

I remember finishing Metal Gear Solid in a flowing and mistake free manner about three or four times just so friends could watch it like a movie.
The Immortal was a nasty little game with a whole lot of trial and error that will frustrate the hell out of you on the first playthrough. Once you know all the correct options you can just walk through the game in a cuople of minutes.

Dead rising 2- Retardly easy once you know most of the localitations of the missions and best overall items.

I Wanna Be The Guy- Beucase its mainly Trial and Error. Its a HUGE difference in difficulty when you play it already knowing where all traps are.

Resonance of Fate.

Once you finally understand the battle system, it's like riding a bike. Especially since Tri-Attacks and Hero Attacks are so overpowered.

I swear, some of the teams i get matched with are downright retarded...

But yes, Dark Souls all around. Once you know where to go, and what's around the corner, the difficulty drops dramatically.

Having a +5 Black Knight Greatsword doesn't hurt, either.

Nonononono you don't understand... You have to do more than just focus a good Vayne. You have to bitchslap her with everything, literally everything. Every Ignite, Exhaust, Flash every stun etc etc because if she gets even one second where she's not chain stunned into the ground. Boom Pentakill. GG

Statistically, Vayne has the highest number of Pentakills out of every other Champion. Useless information go.

Vayne is seriously the only carry I can't focus. She's just everywhere once she gets rolling (literally) with her ult late game. Except with Irelia of course. I can freely not give a fuck with Irelia, the ultimate dunker of carries.

Oh then I try to imitate the awesomeness and turns out that I still suck at that whole "positioning" nonsense. It's a bit late to tell me that our carry shouldn't try to focus the other team's carry... Attack the closest target? Focus the carry is engrained into my mind I can't just let that go dammit!

I still bizarrely managed to 1v1 their Ashe in that game who was stupidly fed because I suck and kept dying after she stunned me from a bush then hit me with two really high damage autoattacks. I was like half health before I got any damage in. I did manage a badass ult > Tumble > Condemn into the wall > autoattacks > mash Tumble 'til you win combo with a splitsecond reaction.

I don't know what it is with Vayne. No matter how shit she's doing as soon as it hits mid/late game she starts owning people for no reason almost regardless of build progress. I guess it's attack speed + Silver Bolts? Maybe Silver Bolt damage is huge when you max it? Should I be maxing Silver Bolts over Tumble now? I DON'T KNOW VAYNE, WHERE IS MY EZREAL?!

Dark Souls and Resident Evil come to mind. Resident evil is a breeze once you know where to go. Dark Souls just takes some getting used to and then it becomes pretty simple. Boss fights mix things up but after you've beaten Smough and Ornstein, you'll come back in NG+ and wipe the floor with their asses.
