Which game that'll suck? I don't know, but I pretty sure it will only be sold to people that are eighteen years, or older.

Oh. Oh! Now I get it. *face palm*

Rant warning:
What new games? Everything that's being produced nowadays is such a watered-down, bleak, mediocre, clone-copy of previous games, that it's going take something in the calibre of RE4, to make me buy anything but retro-games for a while.

Resistance 3, Battlefield 3, The Witcher 2, and Zelda. Everything else looks semi decent and worth trying.

That new Spyro game. Can't remember what it was called. Something along the lines of 'Skylander'.
This thread was MADE for Skylanders. That new character design for Spyro (purple zombie Gollum) would easily have doomed the game even WITHOUT the help of that spectacularily idiotic gimmick that requires you to BUY a damn TOY FIGURE for each unlockable character you want to use.

Seriously, I just can't believe it. Immense production values, scriptwriters and character designers straight from Hollywood's top layer, music by HANS ZIMMER - and then they turn it all into a shameless attempt to flog cheap-ass merchandise. That game is destined to make history. And not in a good way.

All upcoming games are going to suck if people are looking forward to them. This is doubly true if the game is the latest installment of a popular franchise, and triply true if the game is a first-person shooter, because, as we all know, only stupid people enjoy first-person shooters. Popular things are terrible because they are popular.
that was the most ridiculous post ive seen on these forums, so far...

I'm guessing there will be a lot of disappointments, but that's simply because there's a lot of games coming out over the next year that have a lot of expectations and hype. No matter how good the games are, there's no most (any?) of them could possibly live up to what people are wanting them to be.

As far as games that just out and out suck though, there's an easy answer for that: MK9. The series has been crap since UMK3 at the latest and the newest entry isn't going to be changing anything (in fact, it's actually going backwards on a few of the slightly interesting steps forward the series had accidentally stumbled onto in it's latest failings).

Modern Warfare 3.

I'll get the fire hose...

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. CoD4 was quite good, but MW2 just ended up being silly.

My hopes are not high for the third installment, but I'll probably get it anyway simply because it'll almost certainly be VERY functional and more entertaining than other games I've paid full price for (Transformers and Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 come to mind Xp). The multiplayer can go fuck itself, though. I will never pay to let some eleven-year-old spawncamp me for ten minutes straight ever, ever again...

I'm a little sceptical about Portal 2. To me it's like Leonardo Da Vinci earned so much praise with the Mona Lisa he decided to paint 'Mona Lisa 2' with a bonnet on her head and a feather boa.

It just won't replicate the success and brilliance of its original.
Again, I'm inclined to agree.

As Yahtzee has said, one key thing that makes Portal so damn good is its length. I've played through it multiple times, and never once felt like they actually ran out of ideas until the end (which was fine, because they made the ending fucking hilarious and awesome). I think they've milked the concept for what it's worth already, so I have an uneasy feeling that it'll turn out to be like Bioshock 2 (I didn't like the first Bioshock, though, so I wasn't terribly surprised to hear the sequel sucked).
I'm committed to keeping an open mind, though. Valve hasn't let me down yet.

I've had some doubts about Duke Nukem: Forever, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Red Faction: Armageddon. Despite all I'm still getting all of them, I just pray they won't suck.

Skyrim. I think we all realize that it will have more bugs than a compost heap.

I'm also worried about uncharted 3...the second one was so good, that if they make the slightest mistake it will suck in comparison.

Opinions on things already said-
Duke Nukem: I don't imagine will do too well seeing as the non-nerds that are fans of the originals have mostly moved on from video games. Besides that it's pretty generic.
Skyrim: I think it'll do well. Maybe not to the extent of oblivion, but at minimum it will be close.
Twisted Metal: I personally am looking forward to this, but I admit it probably won't do too well seeing as there's not much of a way to give it more content while staying true to the original games.
The Old Republic: I've started playing WoW a bit lately and theres a fairly large number of people that are planning on switching over once TOR is released. With Biowares track record and fanbase, I expect it to have a fairly large following for at least a couple years. Maybe more if it's good.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: The cinematic look good, but that's square enix's doing. It could easily be really good or really bad depending on how the gameplay and level design turn out.
Homefront: Looks pretty generic. Only really expect FPS fenatics who are getting tired of CoD to get it. Sales will be mostly correlating with amount of advertising.

Well according to the EA forums... Battlefield 3 (Because its not Battlefield 2, and apparantly looks too much like Bad company 2... which apparantly makes it shit)
Of course, waiting 4 years for it (Shut up... I didnt start properly playing Battlefield untill 2007...) I disagree with my previous statement wholeheartedly.

I was looking forward to homefront but with the BF3 announcement I dont think it has a prayer.

What about the fact that it was being developed for a new console, so they had to guess the limitations beforehand?

What about the fact that they had one dungeon designer, compared to now that they have eight?

I'm not going to say that Skyrim will be awesome, just as you shouldn't say that Skyrim is going to suck. This whole thread is screwed up.

Edit: and your whole rant on Bethesda=Call of Duty is messed up. Their name sells it, and yet they still spend five years on the best sandbox rpgs on the market. Sense.
Voice acting, writing, characters...how does making a game for a new, stronger console make these things bad? Making a game for a new console is no excuse for having bad voice acting, writing and a boring main quest.

It's not about quantity, it's quality. Morrowind had much better dungeon quality than Oblivion.

I'm not sure about "sucking" but there are a few I'd rather not believe are going to be mediocre.

-Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Squeenix has claimed that they're giving Eidos Montreal free reign on this title; and I'm hoping this is the case. Then again, there have been HOW many terrible, awful titles backed by Squeenix released in the past year alone?
(Answer: Far far too many. Well beyond FF13 and FF14)

-Skyrim: Really. I want a good rpg/fantasy title to get immersed in, which is naturally why this is going to be little more than Oblivion with a new engine and dragons.

And of course, I fully expect the characters, story, and combat to be the usual mediocre slop we're used to by now; and then it will win GAME OF THE YEAR just because it's made by Bethesda.

-Duke Nukem Forever.
Granted, I don't really have high hopes for this game. The gameplay footage made it out to being something of a rush-job, but then again, the game isn't taking itself all that seriously. Perhaps I should just take that in stride and have fun with it. We're only going to get this last throwback to the older "ridiculous" shooters before the sea of formulaic Halo/CoD4-clones devours the rest of the industry again.

-Diablo 3
This actually looks promising. All the more reason to fear its inevitable fall. I can't wait for 70% of the content to be stripped out of single player entirely solely to justify Bnet 2.0's existence.
No LAN for Starcraft 2 means no LAN for Diablo 3, even though Diablo 2 was pretty much the ubiquitous LAN-RPG of the last decade.
(And this assumes Diablo 3 comes out this year; it's entirely possible it will be mysteriously delayed for the 4th year in a row)

Modern Warfare 3
Whatever version of the one game BioWare can make that they'll put out.
Skyrim, too. That will never live up to the hype.
Crysis 2, maybe. Single player might be decent, but multiplayer looks horrible, and by "horrible" I mean "MW2 with Nanosuits"

Duke Nukem I don't think will live up to the hype, well, I know it won't. There is no possible way it can, but I still think it will be a pretty fun game.

I might be misunderstanding this, but "this last" one? You have DNF, Serious Sam 3, Bulletstorm, Rage (possibly, but doubtful in terms of old style shooter), and Painkiller Redemption (hopefully won't suck). So there are a lot more this year than usual...

Kind of iffy on Portal 2. I loved Portal 1 because it was something cool and new. And it had a cool little story.

And Bioware has been worrying me lately with all the pre-order stuff.

But I'm probably gonna get them anyway. They just might destroy the faith I had like Oblivion killed my faith in Bethesda though.
