I'm gunna say Fallout 3 (to a small extent) and Assassin's Creed. Now don't get me wrong, I love fallout 3 and it was probably one of the best games i have played... But after going through it all once I didn't feel inclined to replay it at all. Just my 2 cents. Moving on, sins creed is a lot of fun and i found the combat very fun despite it being repetitive, but again, no replay value for me. Also, there isn't nearly enough exploration and depth of sidequests in it like Oblivion had for it to be classed as an open-world game.

HALO.

Dear gods.

So it's a nice FPS. So fucking what? A hundred thousand other games on every conceivable platform do exactly the same thing.
See, that's the problem.... other games on other platforms do the same thing as Halo because Halo set the standard for today's FPS's and there are elements that started in Halo that so many other games copy.

I can admit that Halo fanboys can get annoying and there are a lot of teenage douchebags that play it, if you can admit that it did remarkable things for the genre.

Gears of War 2 (Gears one but underground)
Force Unleashed (good, but very samey after an hour)
Army of Two(thank god I only borrowed it)
Red Alert 3 (no comment, just....no)

Halo 3 (mainly for the build up, what was with all the adverts and that massive diarrama of the chief arming his grenade and fighting in the streets with the marines for the fate of mankind to victory, and all we got was a carbon copy of the ending of Halo:CE)

I am going to go with Fallout 3. It is a good game but I didn't like the pacing of the game and some bits and NPC got very annoying very fast.

Little Big Planet. It's a cutesy platformer with a level designer. I got sick of it after about an hour, and the story mode is insubstantial - you're supposed to derive most of your fun from creating levels for other people to play, and finding other levels to play. The devs even had the nerve to bundle together the best community maps and sell them back to us. I paid full price for this? Oh wait, I didn't. It was (effectively) a gift because I returned a duplicate copy of Left 4 Dead I received for my birthday.
Why LBP was pitched as the next big thing is beyond me.
This! I have no idea why it's one of the highest rated games for the PS3, period. How did it even get nominated for GOTY? There's not much to it really.

Oh, and Metal Gear Solid 4. I loved the rest of the MGS games, but for one, I really dislike how they changed the main "setting" of the game - that is, putting you in the middle of intense fire fights for msot of the game, as opposed to the quiet buildings and/or wilderness settings, and not changing the controls AT ALL. The controls for MGS have always felt awkward when you got into combat situations - I suppose that was intentional, as you aren't supposed to get into fights - but this game has you in them for almost half the game (the half that you actually PLAY, mind you). And also, the story was retarded. The stories from MGS 1 to MGS 3 were awesome, but when you try to put them all TOGETHER, as well as trying to tie up all these loose ends, you get one big clusterfuck of a story.
Yeah, they really dropped the ball on MGS 4. What made 1 and 3 so good was that they had consistent and tangable stories and characters. And not this up in the air philosofical sci-fi mumbo jumbo as in MGS 4. And the fact that they constantly changed the scenery. The moment you got familiar with the surrounding you were wisked away to some other location. And ofcourse the whole "nanomachines are behind all the mystery". Gee, thanks for ruining that for me. I guess now I know how the Star Wars fans felt when they saw The Phantom Menace. And when MGS finally has good controls, they take away the stealth. It's like MGS 4 was an accumulation of everything Kojima wanted to experiment with and he just through it in half assed.

Yeah, they kind of sucked the espionage out of a game famous for espionage. I think he was under a lot of pressure from Sony and released the game early.

I cant think of a better example than Gears of War, meh at best, so what if the graphics were good, it was pretty much the slowest shooter i've ever played, horible single player, multiplayer left much to be desired in all aspects, not to mention some of the most generic characters ever, the only thing missing is ron pearlman shit on you after you kill Raam
So you basically missed the entire point of it. Gears was designed as a third person shooter implementing a cover system to give you intentionally slow, intense firefights. It rewards flanking and strategy, not twitch shooting like CoD and Halo. If you don't like what they were trying to do, fine, but to say that it wasn't good because you were expecting something else is really just you being misinformed.

The 360 version of Left 4 Dead. I have it on the PC and was used to an intelligent community and smooth controls. The 360 version controlled like a steamroller. If there was a zombie, gone were the days when I could just stand somewhere, snap one direction then snap back. If you want your controls to snap like that, you have to make them super sensitive. If you don't like it at high sensitivity, you'll slowly crawl your way around the screen. I know they have a button to turn you, but it is no where near as accurate as just moving the mouse. I didn't even bother trying to snipe. And this is a game that's on nearly all of my Live friends' achievements screen.
Don't you think it's a little unfair to compare the accuracy of a mouse to the accuracy of a controller? How is that the game's fault?

I never saw the appeal of Uncharted.... to me it looked like an Indiana Jones / Tomb Raider rip off that brought nothing new to the table... oh wait... look at the pretty colours... nevermind.

So thi is a thread for "meh" games? Alright I'll play, the new Prince of Persia. The movement mechanics were great, but the sparkle wore off when I found out there was little story and nothing new happening, just the same find-all-glowy-things-to-fight-generic-boss gameplay, which stops being fun when all they do is change the terrain.

Half Life (the First).

Overall that game is just your average shooter.
I would agree if you were looking at Half-Life in light of modern FPS games.
But when it came out? Just epic.
I was there when it was released, and no FPS game up to that point gripped the player like Half-Life did.

OT: At the risk of sounding like a troll: Any JRPG. I'm sorry, but every single one I've played all have the same inherent problems that I can't seem to get past to enjoy the game: Over emotional characters, ridiculous story and/or dialog, and long, pretentious speeches about life/death/love/hate/the world. Ugh.

Halo, I know its been said before but theres just nothing original in it. And I bet the people buying ODST are also the ones boycotting Left 4 Dead 2 for supposedly being "more of the same" which when compared to Halo is a big joke. What's the next halo gonna be about, you play as one of the little cannon fodder aliens?

Top of that list for me is definitely No More Heroes.
I just didn't find any of the gameplay enjoyable, except maybe a couple of boss battles. Nice style, no substance.

RE4 is also up there. I just couldn't get into it until it showed up on the wii. That made it at least tolerable.

Killzone 2. It is really nice looking but beyond that I don't get the draw. To be fair, I'm not too into military shooters anyway.

FABLE SERIES[/B]

/Thread.
You can't /thread your own posts. Besides, you're wrong.

Half Life 2, Killzone 2 and GTA IV are the games that I just haven't worked out where the hype comes from. Also, if there's such a great storyline in Half Life 2, how comes it's not in the game? I KNOW I'm playing Gordon Freeman. That is the only fact I've had rammed down my throat reinforced by the NPCs...
You clearly need to understand, The Hype created for the Fable series in relation to the actual game is unmatched throughout the gaming industry.

And i can /thread my posts if they some up the thread perfectly.

I'd have to say Half-Life 2. It just wasn't all that fun, especially the vehicle sections, which were a pain in the ass. Half of the time I would ditch the vehicle out of sheer frustration, only to find out later that I needed it to pass a patch of radioactive sludge. Then, lo and behold, I find out that I can't go back to when I ditched the vehicle. Restart game, anyone?
This. A hundred thousand times this. What's all the fucking hype? The game's functional in most areas, but the vehicles are ALL shit, the head crabs and other 'monsters' are ridiculous, and all of the story-relevant NPCs invoke about as much empathy in me as a bar of soap.

well pretty much most of whats been said so far. I am surprised no one has mentioned CoD4 and mass Effect. They're decent games...but so terribly average that I twitch a bit when I hear these two mentioned as being "brilliant" or being implied as godly games.

Other FPS's have also done what Halo does better. TF2, L4D, Counter Strike. Damn it! My Valve fanboyism is showing quite well.

Also CoD. I just do not get it. Not that it's bad or anything I just don't get why everyone thinks it's the best FPS ever!

I have to agree with you on Bioshock. It was a good game, but not the amazing title people made it out to be.
I disagree, it was the first game that had me deeply involved in its storyline and the world of Rapture was so beautifully constructed.

Some of the shooting elements, awful last-gen character models and repetition were negatives for me but all in all I found it to be a wonderful, immersive experience.

It was also the first game that asked you to question your motives and actions as a gamer.

Back on topic: there are so many but I'm gonna go with Psychonauts, which for some reason I just cannot get into, it bores me to tears.
