Am I the only one who found Abe's Oddessy and Exodus shit scary as a kid? Not to sound too wussy but I'm still intimidated by it at age 19. The characters' apperances, the world, the sounds. Its pretty creepy, yet is it meant to be?

I guess you'd have to differentiate between 'Horror game' and '____ genre game with scary bits'. Oblivion, Fallout, Zelda -- these games don't highlight their scary sections but they want to cover the whole spectrum. They had parts that made me happy, sad, angry, etc. as well.

-I do recall back in the day one of the most gut wrenching fears as a child was that I'd lose my last life on some stupid Bullet Bill in world 8 and have to restart Mario again.

Says the person who uses 4 instead of- wait, must not feed the troll...

OT: The ghost chicken things from Rayman 2 scared the shit out of me when I was younger. I always thought they were floating behind my bed.
BLAAAARGH. I HAD ALMOST FORGOTTEN THOSE.

Also, Milla Vodello's "dark secret" in Psychonauts terrified me more than it should have.

I used to watch my father playing Nightmare Creatures II on the Playstation.
I never got near the thing, but I recall sprinting from the room after the game over screen.
Verify whether it was intended to be scary or not as you will.

Another one is Chicken Run for the Playstation. That dog growling used to freak me the hell out.
No, that's actually scary o-o shit, and I'm 15!

Edit: Well, I'm shit-crazy scared of water in pretty much every game.. To name some of the games I've felt worst with, Half-Life 2, with the fish.. My GOD I nearly cried from fear, because for some reason I wasn't facing it and turned around.. Fuck.. Also, Ravenholm. I never finished that area, had to get my friend to do the whole thing ):
Mario 64, the level with the giant eel, and the full underwater levels.
Banjo Kazooie (cant remember which one, was too young) a level that is like a beach, and if you go out into the ocean the music goes all scary and a shark appears to rape you so bad.. Traumatizing!!!

Two words: Shadow Temple. Just listen to this music:

Although the final boss of that dungeon was kind of anti-climactic and goofy.

Banjo Kazooie, I used to be terrified of Snacker the shark from Treasure Trove Cove, his music scared me like hell. It was just as bad when he reappeared in Rusty Bucket Bay in a fenced off area that I just happened to fall into when trying to reach a jinjo.

For some reason, I get slightly creeped out if I play any game for an extended period of time. Especially if it's late at night. Could be Viva Piñata or Mirror's Edge, I'll still get the heebie-jeebies.

Fallout 3. Between the Gary vault and the Dunwich Building, I was genuinely afraid.

And don't even get me started about the Deathclaw Sanctuary.
This also. I am also scared wandering around Point Lookout for some reason.
Not so much the "Gary Vault" for me, but that vault with the violin had a terrifying backstory, if you looked for it. Freaked me out something fierce.
What violin? WHich vault? Gimme a umber and I'll figure out the rest.

I wanna say Vault 93, but I could be wrong...
It's the one the old lady sends you to on a quest.

Scariest place in all of gaming: Tall Trees in Red Dead Redemption.

STEALTH BEARS!

EDIT: @ Dr. Sean: The violin vault (I think) was an experiment testing white noise or something... It was supposed to be able to transmit instructions to the vault residents but just turned them insane... or into Mirelurks. I forget which. It's been a while.

The opening for the Playstation Spiderman 2, the one with Electro. All I remember is something with that opening freaking me out. I was eight or nine though, so that makes sense I guess.

Ocarina of Time because of the Stalfos in the ground while he's a kid. The Redeads in the Market Place as an adult and that damn Bottom of the Well with it's "These walls are drenched in the bloody history of Hyrule" or something like that and the illusionary floors and hands in the ceiling and invisible enemies... Oh and the House of the Skulltulla and the Skulltullas inside the Deku Tree that suddenly came from the ceiling and smacked Link, screaming away.

Today, i love every aspect of that game.
