VTM:Bloodlines - not nearly as buggy as everyone said it was. Best RPG ever made, even if it is more RPS.

Civilization 4BTS - still the best TBS to date.

Tropico3 - knew T1 was great and this game is more, on steriods.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

After playing and loving every other Zelda game I was really excited for a new one. When I found out it was the next 3D Zelda after Ocarina of Time to be set in Hyrule, I was completely hyped up. And it was just as good as I was hoping. The world wasn't the same, but adapted really nicely, and it felt just as epic as the older N64 games.

I was hoping it'd be brilliant, and it was :D

Resistence II. I hated the first one and I knew I wasn't going to like the second one for some reason - but regardless I decided to try it, after all even though mud might looks like shit you still might find a gem or something if you look in it. My expectations were low though, I knew I was sticking my hand in mud, not crap and that's exactly what I got.

Mud, this game wasn't beneath nor past my expectations and I simply didn't like it. The entire experience felt like -

'Oh look, invincible team mates, watered down Killzone one.' Upon beginning the game.

'Oh look, a generic underdog story on how America must fight against impossible odds - yawn.'Upon post beginning of game.

'Oh look, it feels like watered down unreal.' Thoughts upon playing the game.

Dragon Age. I was split between this and Demon's Souls, and seeing the free dlc sticker on the back I opted for Dragon Age. At the start I was extremely let down by the horrible graphics, wonky gameplay, and complete lack of a physics engine. Then It dawned on me that I was playing the Mage's storyline and the game only looked bad in the fade. I've had the game for less than a week and already have 22 hours on it.

Mass Effect. Rented it cuz it looked interesting. Changed my life.
Mass Effect 2. (took a while to get used to)
Resident Evil 4. Same as Mass Effect.
Fallout 3. Saw it in a magazine a year before it came out. WAITED. Played it. Was overjoyed.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Heard it was really good. Picked it up. Was blown away.
Chrono Trigger and Mother 3. Same as Phoenix Wright.

The World Ends With You, one of the few modern JRPG's that I have played, and i gotta say, it was fun and unique from the start, and it kept me hooked through the pseudo-philisophical teenage angst-ridden plot. Also, you could throw cars and trash cans (as well as like anything else that you can find on a street) via the touch screen, and that's always fun.
That has got to be the best DS game on the market.

That is all.

Uncharted 2. I loved every moment of it (Except platforming with Tenzin). It's the only game so far that I've gotten Platinum on, and I'm still playing it.

Killzone 2, for me having not played the original (don't think anyone has) all I knew was they had an e3 trailer that got everyone raving mad and that it was a PS3 exclusive.

Fallout 3. This was the only game I played all last year and I felt pretty good about that.
I actually thought the original was better, so bit of a disappointment for me.

Spyro: A Hero's Tail.

I've always loved Spyro if im honest, but when I heard about what they were doing for A Hero's Tail, I thought it was going to be terrible, and terrible it was.

Uncharted 2 for me too. I saw a demo of the train level and thought it looked fun, and boy, was it ever fun!

While not completely over-hyped, Silent Hill 2 would fit this slot for me. Loved the first one. Waited anxiously for the second once I heard about. Release day picked it up, played it for a couple hours, and sadly enough was disappointed. What can I say, I was expecting something along the lines of the 3rd game, a sequel. It sat on my shelf for about a month, then I gave it a second try.
OMFG!!!! Maybe it was the excitement having worn off, but it just suddenly became a WOW
game for me. Unlike the first game which had me saying within the first 15 minutes, "Whoever
thought up this game is messed up in the head, I love it.", didn't get to that until
the end, but it was well worth it.

Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3. I still giggle like an idiot whenever I use a rifle for a slow motion bullet to the head and the camera starts at me, zooms at the bullet as it passes the middle distance mark and proceeds to make the target explode.
Both of these.

Probably my two favorite games of all time.

COMPANY OF HEROES oh my god. *drool drool drool worship worship* (+ Opposing Fronts, of course). I know it's pathetic of me but it is JUST that good.

On a slight tangent I would like to hear opinions of the little games. Audiosurf blew me away, fantastic concept, teeny tiny price. Brilliant.

and yes.

Both exceptionally good games.

KotOR also; it was (and is) amazing. Mafia is a bit different, as I had to wait several years before I was allowed to play it.

EDIT: Oh and Dragon Age: Origins. They'd totally failed to impress me with any features before hand, and I only bought it because I had nothing else to play (and that was a couple of months after release).

Incredible game.

Mass Effect 2. I knew it's going to be good, but I didn't know it's going to be THAT insanely good. I don't have ANY complaints about it. Yes, I even like the scanning. No, I am not weird.

Modern Warfare 2...well, kinda. The campaign was still too short, but it's epicness made up for it. As for the multiplayer, it's addictive and mind numbingly fun, but the system is more broken than a Michael Bay movie.

Mass Effect, seeing as I didn't have any expectations. I thought it's going to be a pretty average game and it blew me away. It became my favourite game of all time. Well, at least until Mass Effect 2 came along.

Deus Ex, I bought it earlier this year after reading a PC gamer articles calling it the best PC game of all time. It was even better than that claim had led me to believe.

I just played through Mass Effect a few days ago. I got it because it was quite cheap and everyone were talking of how amazing Mass Effect 2 was, and I figured I'd have to play the first one before 2. Previously I'd thought "Bioware always make good games, but Mass Effect doesn't seem like my type of RPG..." Then I played it and found out it was way better then pretty good.
