Dantes Inferno def lived up to be exactly what I expected, which was def a good thing (minus the ending, that made me mad lol but that has nothing to do with the gameplay)

Im kind of amazed everyone is putting Assassins Creed 2.. I expected it to be good and I just cant get into it. I played for three hours and was bored out of my mind... Maybe I should go back and retry it.

Here is a list of games I loved so much and all def kept me staring at a screen for 40+hours: in no order:
1. Monster Rancher 2 - I almost cried when my amazing Zumm pasted away XP
2. Conflict Vietnam - great co-op
3. Starcraft 64 - co-op sucked away my childhood lol
4. GTA San Andres - or Saints Row 2, but their really similar
5. Bioshock 1 - still working on #2
6. Halo 2 multiplayer - took so much of my life
7. Condemned - super freaky game, had my friends crawling around in the dark to scare eachother lol
8. Im sure their are more but im tired of thinking.. lol

Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 Both are fairly awesome, haven't finished ME2 yet, though.

Left 4 Dead 2. I was expecting Left 4 Dead with upgraded maps, modes, and zombies and that's exactly what I got. BioShock 2 actually surpassed my expectations, but I had relatively low ones going in. I thought that it was going to be a watered down version of the first one and that's exactly what it was, but it actually had a good story. Not as good as the first one, obviously, but a good one. I thought they were going to ditch the story and horror and just make it another generic mainstream run and gun shooter.

There are quite a few, but most recently, Mass Effect 2.

I was already expecting excellence, both since it I thought the original was awesome and just in general because it's a Bioware RPG. But what I got was a sci-fi masterpiece and definitely one of my favourite RPGs of all time.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. I expected it to brutally murder it's PSX pre-predecessor but found it to go as far, if not beyond the epicness of the original.

I would say starcraft, Fable 1, prince of persia, and most definetly Bioshock.
I'll agree on starcraft. I went in expecting the single player to be terrible, the game relying solely on the koreans and their multiplaying past-time to sell. Boy I was wrong. Terribly, irrevocably, wrong. The game itself, combined with brood war, can stand on its own two feet soley on the single player.

not so much for Age of mythology though. Bleh that game didn't have a very good story at all.

I feel that the Metroid Prime series was pretty overhyped and I played Echoes first. Then I went back to Prime 1 and both of them are equally fantastic.

Then I'll just add Shadow of the Colossus and Okami not just to be with the cool kids, but to honestly say that they blew my mind.

But then you have Resident Evil 4. Pretty overhyped. Not as good as it could have been. But hten again, I have never liked a 3rd person shooter. Ever. 007 From Russia with Love? Not my kind of game.

The Devil may Cry series is also my now favorite series. 3 just blew my mind. It and 1 are hard as hell with 1 being harder because he doesn't have as many tricks available, even though it comes as a sequal to 3(devs- let's kick the player in the nuts with two boss fights in immediate succession where one makes swords worthless and the other makes guns worthless and put them right in the beginning of the game")

They're loads of fun though.

Ocarina of Time comes to mind as title worth every bit of the hype it got back in 1998.

Lately...I'd say Dragon Age stunned me by being all that I wanted it to be.
