Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Awesome concept. A multiplayer co-op beat-em-up where you play as a bunch of heroes with kickass powers and fight through several awesome buildings/worlds/dimensions, while upgrading and customizing your heroes' powers as you progress through the game.

Too bad the fighting system sucked. Slow, dull combos, unbalanced powers, overpowered blocking, and game-breaking glitches.
I feel the same way. Boring game play. I don't get why so many people liked it!

Lair. They hyped that game for practical years and everyone thought it would be one of the best games that would ever come out for Sony. It had a freaking dragon in it, and you blew things up, with those armies and dragon to dragon battles. Yes, it had good graphics as well, people spoke volumes about it, but everyone really wanted a hardcore dragon game.

Then it came out. Everyone was disappointed. I was disappointed.

They could have seriously done things differently. That and the control scheme. Dumbassed 6-axis.

I haven't played much in the way of consoles, so I'm gonna throw in a couple mmo's that were very original and coulda been real good, but ended up not.

Tabula Rasa. Had an exciting groundbreaking mix of FPS action and RPG elements with a great sci-fi setting, but they just didn't get it finished in time and had too many obvious flaws that remained in-game for far too long.

Auto-Assault. Another mmo that tried something creative and original (made by the same guys as Tabula Rasa....imagine that). Post-Apocolyptic setting using vehicles instead of your typical humanoid characters.

Fallout 3 was kind of a miss for me too. I just liked the turn-based system of 1 & 2 too much. I didn't mind the change to 3D, but just the fact that it became more of a semi-pause-able FPS made it too ho-hum for me to get into.

I dunno if I'm the first one to say this but LAIR. When I saw the trailers I was like: "Oh fucking awesome, those dragons are so cool!" Then I heard that it was a steaming pile of whats-it. I'm not overly disappointed but I expect better of people that try and take on things as epic as dragons. Currently I'm playing through Panzer Dragoon Orta and that did a pretty decent job; its extremely basic as a game, but it works. If LAIR had just made a simple but fun Dragon-flying game that looked as good as it did, I think it could've been... you know... actually good.
For the record, never played LAIR but I love dragons.

It seems that more people care about the "OMG I can play as [X hero] and talk to [X NPC]!" than the actual game itself. If you look at any forums for the game, about 90% of the topics are related to characters, 5% are something to do with graphics, online, story, or some extra features people want in the game, and the other 5% revolves around the actual gameplay itself.

If the developer blogs are anything to go by, however, it seems that Ultimate Alliance 2 will be what UA1 should have been. Then again, I felt the same way about the X-Men Legends series.
