Gotcha Force had great graphic seeing it's a Gamecube game. The gameplay is addicting despite repetative and it's was genuie a fun to play game. Best of all, it had some awesome electronic theme tunes that was very catchy!
You're now part of the Awesome Club here on the Escapist, due to the fact that you mentioned Gotcha Force. Congratulations! After recently playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3 I started thinking how awesome it would be to have a Gotcha Force character to choose.
I'd also like to see a Phantom Dust sequel. The other day I was looking up older games on GAMEFAQS and every single review of that game was gushing approval. Love that game!

Anyone remember Einhänder? How about Omega Boost?
Or what about Xenogears!? Anyone? These were classics!

Nier
Okami
Mirror's Edge

EDIT: Hunted: The Demon's Forge gets honorable mention for being a modest but fun bit of fluff with decent characters and fantastic art design.

thaluikhain i have to agree with you whole heartedly the Exile series is there best work by far.

Other Than Exile, i'd have to say I really liked the old Banjo Kazooie games, not that rubbish new one on the 360.

Call of Duty....One

Before I get curbstomped, I just think it would make sense for the original game in the franchise to be more recognised. I bet most CoD players don't even know that it used to be a WW2 series.

Anyway Call of Duty gave me some of the most memorable encounters within a game I've ever had. Shit like participating in the Invasion of Normandy as both a US paratrooper and a British commando, charging over Red Square with hundreds of conscripts, infiltrating a battleship and the Eder dam and getting into some hectic car chase sequences (even if those last two don't make much sense).
Man, I sunk sooooo many hours into that game.

Also it was before the whole class thing, you'd just pick a gun and go into some brilliant multiplayer maps with a bunch of great gamemodes, and the game was quite balanced aside from what is basically a Russian tommy gun on 'roids.

Good times man.

Strangely enough, playing through it right now.

Dark Messiah: Might and Magic (PC. 360 port was horrible).

Has a moderately interesting story, a nice twist mid way through (that would have been harder to see coming with better voice work). Lame ending though, and the voice acting is some of the worst I've seen.

What really makes it stand out is the combat. If you want to be flying through waves of enemies, without breaking a sweat, this game is not for you. Combat is visceral and unforgiving. Any more than 2 or 3 at a time and you've no hope of a stand up fight.

You need to learn to use the environment and be clever. The game uses Valve source engine for physics so there is a lot to do.

Good example from earlier today. I entered a room with 3 orcs (playing as a stealth/mage character). Backstabbed one without getting spotted, but he fell when he died and the others saw the body which put them on alert. I moved to better concealment, cast Charm (turns them to your side for a time) on one of them. Once one of them was dead I used Telekinesis to throw a large rock at the last one, finishing him off.

There are some issues though. The controls are a headache sometimes. It's very easy to get caught on the environment, which is especially frustrating when the game throws in some mild platforming. There is also some hit detection problems, where weapons (especially enemy ones) seem to have a farther reach than they should.

Overall, the game is definitely worth your time if you have a modest PC. More than anything else, I love it because it is different. Imagine Half-Life 2 with swords and sorcery and you'll have a general Idea.

Metro 2033 deserved better than our very own Escapist gave it! Has that writer been fired yet?

I mean, as an FPS, it was so refreshing to see a pretty cool story behind it, awesome visuals and some genuine care put into the aesthetic of the place.
