Skyward Sword, but NOT because of the controls.
I am a die hard Zelda fan, and I certainly enjoyed the game. It was GOOD. It wasn't "Zelda good!" though. It tried a lot of things... and failed at many of them.
I DON'T think the controls were a failure, though, I found that they created some of the most intense, heartpounding boss fights ever. (Granted, they almost consistently worked for me)
What I didn't like was
A: The use of an overworld (sky) level select instead of traverseable terrain. A subtle change, but it utterly demolishes the sense of connectedness in Hyrule. Why the fuck can't I get from the forest to the mountain on foot? Destroys the sense of exploration, which is one of the driving forces of the series. You have to fly, speaking of...
B: Other than Skyloft, the Sky sucked. It was miniscule and empty compared to Wind Waker's vast and vibrant ocean. Again, the sense of exploration is not there. It's just too tiny and empty.
C: Goddess chests can rot in hell
D: Fi. I REALLY wanted to like her. He design is beautiful, her singing is moving, her concept is cool. She is annoying, lacks any semblance of personality. Even more annoying than navi, in fact. By a wide margin. EVERY time I'm low on health or even have low batteries, really?!
E: Item selection was meager, and item functionality was even more meager. "Sweet! A whip! Can't wait to be a badass with this thing" Doesn't do damage. What. The. Fuck. That's just one example. The Clawshot's functionality was gutted to where it can only hook to one of three surfaces. Peahates, vines, and big gaudy out of place bullseyes. The only interesting new tool was the beetle.
F: Pointless, redundant "features". What the fuck is the point of the adventurers pouch, besides pissing me off? Further, the crafting system can barely upgrade anything, and when it does it's usually redundant, like "ta da! Bomb bag holds more bombs!" or "ta da! Arrows do slightly more damage!"
G: That fucking oversight (at least I HOPE TO GOD it was an oversight) where you have to watch link's "found never before seen item" animation for each crafting material EVERY time you reset the game. It's obnoxious.
So yeah, I was disappointing. HOWEVER, I greatly enjoyed the sword fighting (though I wouldn't mind if they only brought it back occasionally), and loved other things like Girahim, the writing, the art style.
