I must agree, I was so excited. It wasn't bad, it was just mediocre.
I wouldn't say it was mediocre. It was just more of the same. They fixed the combat, but everything else was...not worse, but just not as well done as Bioshock 1. The emotional hook was better, I guess. I was a little disappointed, but I still liked it. I can't hate Augustus Sinclair.

For me, it was every Bioware game and Dead Rising. I just had too high expectations for the Bioware games, caused by the lavish praise the games receive. I also think I am just not the kind of person who plays it. I need a little bit more action and little less melodrama in my games. Games like Bioshock or Assassin's Creed strike a good balance.

Dead Rising was just an unorganized, extremely difficult source of aggravation for me. Couldn't even get past the first day. Lost 5 survivors.

Killzone 2.

Too much hype. I was thoroughly disappointed in the game as a whole.
Yeah the Killzone series started out as an ambitious and fantastic FPS with the first game but the series never really held up as a whole.

I could not force myself to stay awake during that movie.

Literally. I was out like a light halfway through.

There's a game... based off of the movie? I think I summarize my reaction to this new knowledge with "T.T". I've read the books, and like 'em well enough... then I watched the movie... and that was bad enough.

Ahem. On topic... as has already been mentioned, Bioshock 2. Such an amazing game as Bioshock did not deserve a "not bad" sequel.

gota agree, kane and lynch both of them where pretty dissapointing, the seccond more than the first, like how yahtzee said, nothing can live upto 12 years of anticipation so i didn't expect DNF to be any good anyway, though there where some inexcuseable things in DNF like the extremeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy long loading screens, the two weapon limt and such.

Mass Effect 2. A mediocre game that got tons of awards for no apparent reason. Well, in hindsight, there wasn't much out that year anyway. Still, when people say it's the best game ever made, I wonder if they have played a good game in their lives.

Bioshock. A dumb shooter infinitely inferior to it's truly great spiritual predecessor, System Shock 2. Personally, I think Bioshock is the most overrated game of all time. Just a waste of potential.

Deus Ex: Invisible War. Not a bad game, but a very bad sequel to the best game ever made.

Alpha Protocol. Had great potential, but was ultimately crippled by unbalanced gameplay. I'd still take it over everything else on this list, though.

I really liked Bioshock 2. Even better than the first one, actually. The story wasn't quite as in depth, but it was sure a hell of a lot better than most of the other games that come out and I thought it made up for it with awesome gameplay.

My dissappointing game had to have been World at War. Call of Duty 4 was the first COD game I has ever played and I thought it was awesome. Great story, great gameplay, at the time it was fresh and new. So naturally I was stoked for World at War. What did I get with that? "Go here! Do that! You just got killed by a sniper that was glitched and not visible!" There was no story, the gameplay sucked compared to COD4 and it was just all around a crappy game.

L.A. Noire. Cole Phelps is probably one of the most annoying characters I have played in a game. His massive overreactions when "doubting" annoyed me to no end. The game was also a bit repetitive. Search crime scene A. Make connections. Interrogation. Closed case. The side missions were simply driving to different places and playing Red Dead Redemption. That said, the story was pretty good and the world was both stunningly beautiful and accurately portrayed. Still, I don't feel like it lived up to the massive hype.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed was the first game that comes to mind. Seriously, the trailers looked great, and then when I actually played my first comments were: 1. Why does the game look like I'm playing it on a PS1? 2. Why can I literally not walk in a straight line?

Agreed.

I was one of those suckers who thought Haze and Turning Point looked good and well...they weren't.

Age of Conan. Sounded so great and new and revolutionizing before it shipped, I even bought a new PC to do it justice...and it turned out to be minor alterations to WoW with less colours and less UI polish. That's one of the big reasons I don't get into the SW:ToR fan club now, I've seen this thing play out before and remain unconvinced that this time will be different.

As a side note, Dragon Age 2 didn't disappoint until second playthrough. Through low expectations or suspension of disbelief or something else, I never did get bothered by the same dungeon being used several times and I remained quite impressed with how my actions were shaping the world around me. I was really disappointed to see my brother get dragged off as a grey warden, I saw how my willing and helping nature put the wrong people in positions of authority, Anders made me an accomplice to the murder of one of the most sensible people in the game...
Then I went back to correct my mistakes in a 2nd playthrough, and only then realized that my choices had almost nothing to do with how events unfolded. My sibling is taken away at the end of act 1 no matter what. The uprising at the end of act 2 happen no matter what and the outcome is the same no matter what, because either way Isabella runs off. Merril will make her dumb mistake whether I encourage it or not. So will Anders. The fights at the end of act 3 are the same no matter whose side you choose (although I was intrigued to see that the templar route revealed some truths that had eluded me on the mage run). Dialogue changed, but the story was scripted and set from the beginning, giving me a big sense of wasting my time.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for the DS. A remake of the very first Fire Emblem game. I was very interested in this game because I loved 2 other Fire Emblem games.

I was very disappointed. I mean, I'm glad they made it, but I literally lost interest. It felt like the story was just trinkled is certain spots here and there. Halfway through I literally said, "I have no idea what the hell is going on and why I should care". Though I guess thats really my own personal problem, but I just didn't really care for the characters or the world. I beat the game though, but I would give it a C. Was expecting at least a B.

Condemned 2. Arg... admittedly, was a great game and did everything right for the first 2/3 of the game. But then it ended on a note that effectively killed the series. That was disappointing.

Also Alien vs Predator (the new one). Short game, bit campy, nowhere near as atmospheric as the first game...and yet a highly enjoyable game for the most part. BUT, it's so minimalist in content, trimmed way too much, and the online is entirely non-existent unless you play with friends. What disappoints me is not that it's a bad game, but that it's an average game that looks like it had massive potential had it been constantly supported with patches and free DLC. It just frustrates me to see little signs of greatness in the end result that lead to dead ends.

Portal 1. While the humor was good... the gameplay was eh to me. It was cool but not ground breaking like people said it was. Okay, cool. I can shoot a portal here and walk out there. Yes, it is cool to do it in puzzleness. But...it wasn't a god-send for me.

Half-Life 1. I played it after the Orange Box and, oh dear Lord, that game was awful. If you want to know what eternity is like, play that game.

The only good thing about it was that it paved the way for Half-Life 2, one of the best games ever created. Now if only Episode Three would arrive ...

I would of switched Vanquish with Okami but everything else I agree with.
