Every single Silent Hill game since Origins, and especially Origins, that game was just unacceptable. Camera was shit and the whole weapon degradation thing was stupid, since when do jack hammers break after a few hits?
Well at least you had 20 tv's in your jacket pocket, right? RIGHT?

Personally, I rather enjoyed DNF, but this was because I wasn't expecting it to be anything other than what it was.

HaloL Reach. I was expecting a story that worked with the series canon, which had been established during 03/04 with the books, as well as characters that weren't about as cliche as 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it', and something other than whatever that pitiful excuse the main character was.

Brink, I was so hyped for it...
Yeah Brink created much hype using trailers to show off gameplay and such. Homefront was similiar to this as the trailers created a lot of hype towards what turned to be a mediocre game and Brink turned out the same.

Where to start!? And the sad thing is that it's not because any of these are "bad games" per say. Just really hyped up and failed to meet expectations. Bioshock 2, Dragon Age 2 and Spore are my top 3 disappointments.

The multiplayer in Homefront is very fun but the single-player campaign is mediocre at best in my opinion.

GTA4 - In my opinion this is a terrible game simply because it wasn't fun to play.

Portal - Okay game that feels way over hyped...as such my experience was disappointing.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - I just wanted to love this game given the original, disappointed on every level.

Resident Evil 5 - Not as bad as the Tales sequel by comparison, but simply couldn't live up to the hype.

Rock Band 3 - The game itself is amazing, however, the keyboard is a major disappointment. Functionally it is a satisfying device...in play you sit for 20 seconds between playing notes and simply get bored. The learning curve provided is terrible...I'm unable to remotely progress from medium to hard difficulties due to the massive change. This was not the case with any other instrument.

Brink was the only game that I regretted ever getting.
It had a lot of promise....but there were too many flaws for me to bare.

My biggest disappointment remains Far Cry 2.

Now Far Cry 2 wins points for it's stunning visuals, environment and immersion and overall it wasn't a terrible game. But it could have been so much better. The AI, the respawning times, the story, the malaria, the incredibly fast weapon degridation, the needless repetition... it goes on, so many game design mistakes. Reletively minor things that the rest of the game, (the visual design etc.) surely warranted getting right. But they didn't. And what could have been awesome was downgraded to mediocre. Disappointing.
After the original, Far Cry 2 was indeed a big disappointment. I can only hope that they can salvage the series with Far Cry 3.

Pro-tip: start out with low expectations for any game and browse some user reviews before you actually buy.

I suppose the game that has let me down the most was Black Ops, by this time I was starting to see how they were screwing over the fans of the series, and as such I converted to battlefield, No other games have really disapointed me that much becuase I have never really been interested in pre production and instead I went for the proven formula games such as Half Life and CounterStrike, I think my biggest fear is Battlefield 3, it looks to be such a good shooter, it seems to have many great new elements and an assured combat feel, but it reminds me all to much of the hype around Call of Duty games that come out, But I suppose the gaming industry isn't all that its cracked up to be these days =( lets just hope for BF3 to stick its course

Haze. Mostly because I wanted the PS3 to be as good as the PSX or PS2. I wanted to be a PS3 fanboy. Alas...

Call of Duty: Black Ops. More of a stand in for military shooters in general, but this is what ran through my mind when I was playing it: "Metal Gear Solid had better shootouts than this. Fighting Gray Fox, there was glass breaking, papers flying all over the place. 10 years later, I am playing a high definition shooting gallery. I am holding a pellet gun and bored out of my mind."

Prince of Persia: "You are so pretty and cel-shaded WHY CAN'T YOU BE GOOD?!"

Super mario galaxy 2.
What I was promised by all the reviews was some of the most creative and inventive gameplay ever. What I got was a more linear (in terms of level design) super mario 64 in space. And even the space part is just the background most of the time.
It's not bad by any means, just nothing special.

Condemned 2. Yahtzee was spot on with this one. The scarcity of guns actually made Condemned more exciting. Who knew?

Baldur's Gate 2. I don't understand why, but I could never get that deep into the game. Technically it's a good game but it wasn't for me. Incidentally, I loved Planescape Torment.

Half Life 1. See the above. It was technically a great game, but where was the game breakthrough I was expecting?

Doom 3. I don't understand what people like about it. Granted, I played the game in early 2011, so maybe I was spoiled.

The Path. Absolutely horrible game, indie or not. I feel the developer is trying to be artsy but the game just comes off as a confusing mess.

COD 3 and World at War. COD 2 and 4 were such great games.

Mass Effect 2. Instead of getting rid of the shitty minigame and confusing inventory, they replaced the minigame with another shitty minigame and killed the inventory system altogether.

With the exceptions of Doom 3 and The Path, I didn't despise the games I listed. In fact, I enjoyed them. I just felt that they didn't live up completely to my expectations.
