Lost Planet. It was a bad idea for a game the first time, it was poorly designed, and horribly horribly written. Making it virtually online only makes it even more annoying. A Dead Rising sequel also seems incredibly unnecessary, especially since they're not even setting it in a mall this time. Tony Hawk's Underground should have never gotten sequelized. Really killed the series for me.
Hey Lost planet 2 is a great game. :(

Fable. I seriously hated that game, and for all its attempts at innovation I hated the sequel too. I mean, the series tries, damn it it tries, but I just hate it. The tangent between seriousness and goofiness is too jarring for me.

Force Unleashed I have to question as well. While an interesting enough game I can't fathom how the sequel will work. Granted I haven't checked the material on what the sequel's about, but the whole thing just lacks appeal to me. The plot holes of the first one were bad enough...

Got to love how they apparently didn't feel Peng was racist enough in the first game and had to amend it in the second, thus destroying any respect for the character.

This...
Except...
I disagree with all this "no sequels" business, Though the sports industry needs to calm the fuck down and release games when innovation comes, and patches for seasonal changes.

Halo 3-> ODST Sure it might of been a fun game, but I didn't really feel like Halo NEEEEDS another game...from a diffrent angle sure I'm going to get flak for this but the idea of Reach is good. The Halo before it was Halo. Not the "What if Halo was from a different angle"
Dude, it had 3 of the cast of Firefly. Instaawesome!
Oh sure, that casting could of been good, and the gameplay fun. But did you really NEEEEED it?

Destroy All Humans. The idea of a sequel was amazing, because the original was the greatest game in my younger years. The execution was awful.

Portal for fucks sake! Valve wont make Half Life Episode 3 they wont update TF2 on consoles they wont update Left 4 deads for consokes they dont care about theyre fans!
episode 3 is explained by valve time. console updates are Microsofts fault and the fact that they themselves didn't really do the ports, they ARE updating l4d2 on the 360 ($15 please, says Microsoft)

Now more on topic, portal 2. The op talks about needless sequels, portal 2 is not needless or a shameless cash in. With the success and popularity of the first game valve saw it as an opportunity to expand on the game play mechanics of the first game to push the limits of a first person puzzle game even further.

I probably sound like a valve fanboy right now... I don't care. I probably am.

And I have yet to speak to anyone that looked at the second game and say "looks like shit"

If it had fewer bugs and such it would have been better. I liked it, and liked it being set in somewhere tropical. The first one I absolutely loved, but the foggy, dark setting, while it worked for that particular story, made me want something brighter by the time I got to the end.

The first and second ones were good. Big Willy Unleashed was really where the series started to go downhill.

Left 4 Dead. While L4D2 was very fun, it wasn't much different than the first. Bioshock 2 was also fun but unnesecary. Silent Hill is a series that is always open to more sequels, but they just need to make ones that don't absolutely suck.

Halos Spinoffs, Sonic, Doom, Duke Nukem, Lost Planet, Fable, Iron Man, Two Worlds, L4D.

Now I don't by all means some the things I mentioned didn't deserve sequels, but they could be been better.

L4D2 - They added new zombies, new settings, new scope guns, and melee weapons. All these could have been added onto the original without issues, so why the stand-alone idea?

Iron Man 2 - Very bad game, period, they could have atleast improved it GREATLY! Learn from the first one guys.

Lost Planet 2 - The first one was OK, but it lacked any characters which you could care about and the story was generally daft. The second one comes out, and forget the SP aspect of the game...plus the bugs are insane.

You see the point, sequels could have been better, as they stand now, they're somewhat average and worse then the first titles for most of them.

They never did. Valve is a collection of people indulging themselves.

Every 'planned trilogy' should've just been released as one game. Would've saved a fair number of IPs from near complete obscurity. Also forces developers to make better games, rather than doing the "half-ass" dance with each installment.
If Mass Effect was one game, it would be such a cluster fuck to processors no one would buy it.

The game follows the ending to the first game in which
Starkiller dies. In TFU2, he is resurrected as a clone by Vader for some reason. There is evidence that Starkiller is not a clone, and trying to discover who or what you are is a major theme of the game.
Sounds kind of stupid to me, but with good execution it could work out all right.
