After picking up "Gun" for my 360 a few days ago, to get ready for the West when Red Dead Redemption comes out...I hate it. That game has aged like milk. It's got a really tiny open world, about the size of that small northeast island, Bohan, in GTA4. Or just one of the islands in GTA3. The world features two "cities", and one is basically a street. And the "BIG CITY" is two whole streets. The graphics have aged very poorly, hell, it was an ugly next gen port to begin with. Graphics aren't a deal breaker, but it just looks...off. Kameo still looks great, after all. The gunplay and difficulty is laughable, letting me solo the first batch of missions using my infinite ammo revolver, not even touching my rifle or shotgun. I died ONCE. When I wasn't watching my health bar, which I could have refilled with a swig from my flask o' alcohol. This game has aged very, very poorly. The only thing that has aged well in the soundtrack.

Final Fantasy VII.

From a merely graphical perspective, it looks awful by today's standards. However, the soundtrack, like Gun's, is quite nice.

Creatures 3... I remember it being so fun! But then I got it on the PSN and... Ugh, the AI...

Don't forget the translation, I think that's the worst part.

I'd have to say Outcast, because it won't actually run properly on modern computers. That's the problem with running on an engine that relies only on the processing power of computers of the late nineties. It's a shame, because that game is fucking awesome.

Also the first two Elder Scrolls games.

MGS1, I think that there's something lost in the GC remake but the control issues are just painful.

Tomb Raider, again, it looks like utter hell and since I need to see what the fuck I'm doing in space, that matters. Overly-button happy controls also piss me off

I don't see anything wrong with FFVI and VII are that bad. VII looked funky when it came out, so I count that as part of the charm. The anime look in the FMVs works better than trying to make stylized fictional characters look realistic. VI, meh, it's what 16bit? it's not pretty but it gets the job done.

Almost any game from the polygon 3D era (~PS1) era. Horrible to look at at the time, and even worse now that we're no longer impressed by the fact they're using 3D graphics.

Perfect Dark. I wish it wasn't true, but today, it's really not so great.
I bought that on Xbox Live despite having never played the original. This purchase was PURELY based on it's reputation. I REGRET IT WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING.

Even though the story, dialogue and voice-acting are still top-notch, I'm sad to say that as a game Soul Reaver has aged very poorly, both in graphics and (even more so) in controls and gameplay, despite its original concept.

Perfect dark has not aged well. I played it on XBLA. Not as good as i remember unfortunetly.

Mario Kart 64 on the other hand is still as classic as it used to be x)

I guess Gun hasn't aged too well, which is a shame, because it was one of my favorite games. Still, it's one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, I'll be listening to this theme music when riding into town in RDR, especially 'Apache Theme'. XD
Gun also had one of my favorite stories of any game, which is a shame because it's over in about five hours or less, making it even less palattable now, since games these days generally have a slightly longer story mode than the time it takes to eat a sandwich.

One game I would say hasn't aged well at all is Dynasty Warriors. *shudder*

Outcast was just released on GoG, works perfectly on new computers.

Most early 3D games haven't stood up to the test of time though. For example I know both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were revolutionary for consoles when released, but damn are they a pain to play nowadays. Hooked up the old N64 for a bit of nostalgic fun awhile back and came away kinda saddened by how terribly they've aged.

Ah well! Most sprite and 2D games age much better.

However, Deus Ex, that which so astounded me back in 2000, has aged about as well as cream does if you leave it in the sun. The AI is jaw droppingly terrible. They're all freaking myopic! The graphics, inconsequential as they may be, have not aged well, the gunplay is horrible, the acting has only got worse with age. It's just bad now, which is depressing, because back when it came out, it was revolutionary. I suppose everyone just copied its great ideas, and did it better. Such is life.
The internet shoved Deus Ex down my throat when I got Steam. DEAR GOD, the concepts are awesome. Sadly, the execution hasn't aged well. But it's aged better than Perfect Dark. I can't see why you play THAT...THAT...abomination...every day.

Any and all of the Samurai and Dynasty Warriors games.

Also, Age of Empires. The first one mind you.

Care to elaborate? Sprites tend to age very well, from a graphical standpoint. Is it a gameplay thing?
It's a silly hate thing. Probably just because of the graphics. Even if I didn't like FF6 in particular I would have to recognize that the score is great, the graphics are great when compared to games like it of the time, hell even emotions where conveyed well with nothing but text and a few sounds.

That game much like a number of RPGs ported to the DS have stood up well enough that some people I know are confused about them being pretty much ports of SNES games.
