I don't just mean wow...the matrix made me think I don't exist.

Maybe a character you aspire to be like, no matter how embarrasing?
Something that made you think...'oh man, what have I done?'

Thanks guys!

I'm never going near a big empty dark house again...

When I was a little kid, Pokemon taught me that water conducts electricity, so I guess that's the closest a game has come to having had an impact on me (it also taught me that enslaving animals and battling them to the death is OK!)

Oh, and welcome to The Escapist.

Portal-- that game took a flamethrower to the unlit pyre of my ambition and fondness for vaguely homosexual turns of phrase.

If there were any game thats affected me in a deep and profound way, it would have to be the Metal Gear Solid series (Specifically MGS4) . It gave me not only Snake, a role model who at the time I needed, but also an idea. Things like freedom, control, and what a warrior was took on a new meaning to me.

um.. I played ff8 for the first time while I was in the military (everyone used to spend a year over here), and I was considering a longer career in the militia, off in foreignia somewhere. Over a weekend or two. ..I'll freely admit it was a big factor in making me think about what I was doing in a different way.

Maybe the Zelda games... they sort of hint through-out that courage is the best thing to have; because that's all Link has, really. Well, that and a fantastic ability with a sword that comes from no-where.

Pokemon. I remember playing Blue as a kid and being amazed about how much there was to do. Although it hasn't helped with my physical life(Far from it), it makes me seek out games that have a kind of long term appeal. Hell, I still play Pokemon to this day. Pokemon also taught me things like being fair to opponents (From Link Battles) in whatever I do.

for me it was the Legacy of Kain series, they've formed a lot of my opinions on things.
Same here.

Also, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic made helped me change who I was a bit (for the better I believe).

And to the person that said none because his life doesn't suck that bad... It doesn't have to take a book or movie to compel you to change or see something differently, all it is a single thing that can move you in a way that you may have not experienced.

Edit: id Software changed me with pretty much all their games. They give me inspiration, I know it sounds really sad and stupid, but they do -- especially after reading Masters of Doom.

I think some of the awesome stuff done in the Dynasty Warriors series is awesome, it's partly true as well. That's always cool, when something is historically accurate(ish) so real people did give their lives to save friends...
