Just Cause 2's ending was a cliff-hanger??
Errr??
I didn't mean it was a cliffhanger, just a bad ending... and it was pretty terrible

EDIT: Oh yeah and Warcraft 3's ending was also fantastic. It allowed frozen throne to happen without needing any cliffhangers

Left 4 Dead had the best ending I think. Just rounded off everything for me. Explained any questions I had, and I loved the bit with Bill...made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Great game, great ending.

OP: Mass Effect 2 had a good ending (as long as you don't get Shepard killed) and the cliffhanger left a lot of questions like:

Where did Shepard get a fleet of Reapers and why would he need them?
I think that you might be a little confused. They did not belong to Shepard. They were coming to harvest everything. The ending was ok, pretty generic middle-of-a-trilogy ending. "We have the resolve to win!" type thing.

Rez and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri have great endings.
Take it we're talking the whole transcendence thing (in SMAC)? Absolutely loved it, though the Alien Crossfire story never really caught me.
Yeah. I think that Brian Reynolds did a great job of mixing philosophy with modern science fiction concepts in SMAC. The retro pulp fiction stuff in Alien Crossfire that was added later, not so much.

DOOM II....cause I beat it yesterday. Morrowind, even more so post Oblivion since no one was saying I was lucky to know some guy who rode on my glory (and greatest achievement was dying)...was all me baby.
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon. Ended big and flashy.

Mother 3 had an END...
The needles.. you get lead to believe that if you pull them out, the world would be saved. But when you pull the last one, the world ends anyway... Then a black screen with END on it. However, you can walk the END around, and encounter the people you've met, who talk to you, the player... they seem happy enough. After you talk to everyone, you eventually see the logo again, except instead of being half metal half wood, it's all wood, and the Earth has returned! This implies that the world had been remade, since, you know, everywhere except Nowhere Island got destroyed by war...

GTA games.

Fallout 3.

Mass Effect 1.
Are you serious? I'm assuming you mean the Broken Steel DLC included, otherwise the ending was ridiculous, especially if you had rad resistant Fawkes standing right bloody next to you :).

I like the endings to Halo 1 and 3, not 2 though, surprisingly.

star wars: republic commando had a good ending... well... an ending i liked, anyway...
I really enjoyed the ending as well.

I feel both endings to The Force Unleashed were really good, and Mass Effect 2 has (to my knowledge) several epic endings.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter also came through with a good ending.

I have to admit, I really liked Fallout 3's ending. Of course, I didn't have any companions (they keep stealing my kills), so I couldn't just send Fawkes in. As long as I'm admitting to liking unpopular endings, I might as well say that I liked the first Modern Warfare's ending.

The first Condemned had a pretty good ending. Gotta love SKX.

I disagree. It is a subjective topic though.

Personally, I thought that it was a good ending, you are mirroring the heroic actions that your own father performed. You enter the deadly chamber, but you need a code!

What's that code?

The bible reference. The arc words that your parents reminded you of throughout your life, as it comes full circle and you input the bible number.

It's epic. It's a ending! And it works so very well with the prevelant dramatic imagery.

Hence why I thought it was a good ending.
Okay, I'll buy that as a reasonable response to like it, but having Fawkes standing right next to you ruins it completely. None of the above is necessary if Fawkes is just there, rad resistant and everything.

The whole 'full circle' thing is a good way to end a game, but it should be the player's decision (and i don't count needlessly sending another person to die as a viable alternative).

Thankfully, I think this is absolved with the latest DLC, but it seems like a sham to force DLC on the player, just to get a satisfactory ending, where you can sensibly react to the situation.
