Oh and Resistance 2, I don't realy know why though just liked the ending.
I agree, it wasn't amazing.
But still.. somehow it's one of my favourite game endings.
The main one that sticks in my head anyway.
Weird ain't it, took me a while to realy figure out what happened as well

I found Mass Effect 1, Sonic Adventure 2 and No More Heroes special because they had both a good climax and a good ending. The Zelda series has good climaxes but the endings are pretty meh for me personally.

HL2 episode 3 had a great ending. A real tear jerker (for me anyway, the only game so far I have shed tears to) and left it on a good cliff hanger.

There's quite a few:

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones had an incredible ending when
It turns out that the entire series had been the Prince reciting his adventure to Farah on the tower where the game ends
Ratchet and Clank 3's ending
when every character from the series appears in the theater to see the new Secret Agent Clank film.
Resistance 2. I can't wait for a sequel because that ending practically defined cliffhangers for me. It's the most jarring ending I've ever seen in a game.
My favourite ending of all time though has to be Twilight Princess. The first game ending to make me truly sad. I loved it yet hated it for almost making me cry.

Oblivion's. I loved it so much I don't want there to be a sequel because the end was the perfect ending to a series.

Also, from a story-telling mindset, I loved Fable 2's. Yeah, the gameplay wasn't incredible by any means but I really thought the story was good.

The ending of "Legacy of Kain: Defiance" was just awesome, and it neatly tied up every single plot thread from the entire series.

Also, as has been said, the ending of "Prince of Persia: Two Thrones" was beauty itself.

The irony being you're not saving /everyone/. You're providing clean water for the Capital Wasteland, instead of letting everyone in the building die.

Honestly, I'd rather just be able to tell Autumn the code, let him start it up, and be on my merry fucking way (instead of him executing you).

OP: Mass Effect 2 had a good ending (as long as you don't get Shepard killed) and the cliffhanger left a lot of questions like:

Where did Shepard get a fleet of Reapers and why would he need them?
I think that you might be a little confused. They did not belong to Shepard. They were coming to harvest everything. The ending was ok, pretty generic middle-of-a-trilogy ending. "We have the resolve to win!" type thing.
Yeah you're probably right. So basically Shepard and the rest of the galaxy are screwed if he can't find a way to stop an army of synthetic gods.

I liked the Darkness' ending. It was anti-climactic, but in this case that was good. I won't spoil it for you, but imagine what happens when you reach you goal in a game. You have nothing left as your thirst for revenge was all that was left in your life.
Yea, I really enjoyed it too. The writing and pacing in that game was phenomenal. A shame it's such a forgotten game. Was really happy when escapist pulled that article on it though. Hell, the game is usually less than 10 bucks used and people still don't buy it.

The Telltale games always seem to get the cliffhanger between episodes spot on.

The Tales of Monkey Island series did it well and the latest Sam & Max series has me on tenterhooks. Always a good show for those guys
