These are the games that upon completion did not just give you a sense of achievement but made you feel something stir at your core, leaving you with only one thing to say, "My God; That, was a damn good game."

Two games that gave me that feeling were World of Goo and Psychonauts. To me both were truly brilliant.

Hows about you?

Edit:eek:mg I forgot about HL2 ep 2, I got teary.

For me, it was Crisis Core FF7. Button mashy gameplay, weird anime cheesy acting, but damnit they did something right!

Psychonauts, Shadow of the Colossus, Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and of course, Silent Hill 2.

Sid Meir's Civilization Revolution always gave me a sense of accomplishment whenever i won. Especially on the harder difficulties. Just the thought of creating a civilization and having it be the most dominant out there.

Planetside. In its golden age there was no game like it.

Then came the evil sony overlords who raped and pillaged Planetside's happy community.

Pretty much all the Bioware games... in fact I can't think of a Bioware game that hasn't stirred an emotional response in me.

Final Fantasy VII
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy X
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Bioshock 1 and 2
Okami
Beyond Good and Evil
Shadow of the Colossus
Ico
Metal Gear Solid
The World Ends with You

Yeah, I play a lot of story-based games, so there are plenty of emotional ones on my list. These are just some of the most notable ones, and there are probably some equally important ones that are slipping my mind at the moment.

I would say that the first game that did that for me was LOZ: The Wind Waker. Mass Effect 1 and 2 (but mostly 2) did also, and Bioshock 1 ALMOST did but the ending was so unsatisfying I didn't really feel it.

Jak 3, Bioshock 1&2 (2 espically, after all you went through, at the end...), Fallout 3, and that's all I can think of for now.

Final Fantasy X. I sat there and cried (I'll admit it). I don't think I even noticed I was at first. Such a great game. It really made you care about the characters.

I'm not completely done with Dragon Age yet, but I've had some moments playing it already where I definitely have felt just in awe.

I also remember being thoroughly satisfied with Kingdom Hearts 2 when it ended as well. :)

Metal Gear Solid 3. It's the ending, where

The Boss explains how she never really betrayed anyone, and she gives Snake her gun, and the camera pulls back... and the game waits. You have to kill the Boss- the greatest hero of WWII, and Snake's mother figure. I couldn't move. It took a surprising amount of willpower to press the button.

It's the most tragic thing I've ever seen in a game.

I am bothered by the fact people are moved by 1 dimensional JRPG characters.
Although a story and characters aren't always needed to invoke emotion.

Atmosphere, and visuals (Okami) can do such a thing

The Longest Journey.

I love that game so much, not because it's particularly fun. Hell, it isn't. The gameplay and puzzles are complete crap. But the story and the characters are just so well done I genuinely care about what's going on and I *want* for there to be a happy ending because I like the characters so much. And when the game ended on such a sad note, it got the desired reaction as I leaned back in my chair and said 'Dammit, that isn't fair, she deserved better!' while listening to the melancholy music play in the background... It may not be the happy 'OMG AWESOME' ending you might be looking for, but it certainly provoked emotion.

Poor April Ryan.

Music in question, a very beautiful piece too I might add:
