I was responding to a post elsewhere, and thought: "i play a lot of games, some good, some bad, but a very few special games, left me in stunned silence, or *literally* cheering at the screen when i finished them.

for me, two titles come to mind, aquaria, where i sat in stunned silence for sevral minutes after finishing it

and "alice: madness returns", where the ending was so satisfying i lost my normal emotionless composure, threw my arms in the air, and cheered

what games have made you react like this escapist?

I completely agree there. Alice's ending was so satisfying, and really intriguing as to what effect it had on her.

I'll nominate any KH ever made. Either I'm brimming with absolute joy and happiness, or I'm crying my heart out. Rarely has any other game effected me as much. Perhaps also Tomb Raider Legend.

A couple of games have done this to me but I don't quite recall what they were other than Red Dead Redemption even though I saw it coming a mile off.

On another note every time I complete a game I always let the credits role to the end regardless of how good it was.

Persona 4, both on the Bad End and the True end.

Fuck that bad ending hits hard. You get one dialogue choice just for kicks during the bad ending and you can admit you fucked up royally. Had to choose that one in a sort of numb rage. Oh and I think I remember you getting the credits in a washed over gray colour with no music. Just as an added "fuck you"

The true ending is completely epic, it had me in tears three seperate times during the ten minute ending sequence. Persona 4 is awesome dawg...

And all the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games. More specifically the third one. The final case is so so good.

I suppose Persona 3 as well. In a more roundabout way

I didn't feel sad because the main character died, I hate that guy and can't believe i'm supposed to associate with him.

I simply felt so sorry for Aigis... :(

Dying in Aigis' arms is quite... poignant and moving at least. Even if I hated that guy so damn much

To clarify, I wasn't raging slightly at my TV because the MC died, I was raging that the dick was leaving Aigis all alone.

Oh boo hoo you sealed Nyx, tell that to the sweet little robot girl (that you totally didn't have a thing for) you left behind

The game that immediately comes to mind is Ib, which is a RPG Maker horror/adventure game by a man named kouri. It's similar to Yume Nikki, but is much more linear and focuses mostly on the story, whereas Yume Nikki mainly focuses on exploration. Ib has multiple endings, but there are two in particular that most people would agree are fairly awe-inspiring. I won't spoil anything here, but since the game is free and only takes an hour or two to complete, why don't you play it yourself? [http://vgboy.dabomstew.com/other/ib.htm]

I didn't get the bad ending, but rather the normal ending. But I know what happens in the bad ending. ;_;

The normal ending just shut me up. It was pretty depressing.

Then I finished the game for the True Ending, and that had me grinning and tearing up like a ************. It's still slightly depressing, but man it was epic.

You're awesome for knowing those games. I have yet to play through them, but I have seen some lets plays and whatnot. Unfortunately, I spoiled myself. ):

But even just watching, both games left me in awe. Yume Nikki in silence, and the best ending of Ib in some tears/cheers.

I'll probably play one of the other Yume Nikki-like games I haven't spoiled before actually playing through these games myself.

Bastion's ending for one. Before that, it was Mass Effect 2. Game knew how to end on a fucking high note. Even if the last boss sucked, the execution and presentation made it so grandiose.

Played:
ME2 was one of those 'Hell yeah' feelings, now if only sheppard had really told him off.
Arkham City- It took three days to let everyting settle in.
Warship Gunner 2- No voice acting, just an image or two with text boxes, but still very good, and satisfying after the final bosses.
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2.
Jak 3.

Seen/Heard of:
Halo Reach, Super Paper Mario, KH BBS(kinda).

inFamous 2's good and bad ending made me sit back in awe, they were so damn awesome and sad, especially the bad ending.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations had me in awe too, it was such a great ending that I was totally fine with it, and made me sad that it was over. I was fully satisfied with how it ended and tied Ezio's story up nicely, plus it made me excited for the next one.

For me, a game that left me in awe would be Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille Zur Macht, my jaw hit the floor at simply the way it ended. As for something else, like tears, Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra. I'm almost certain I was depressed for like three days after beating it.

Bastion and Dungeon Hunter 2 are the ones I can remember. Bastion was just a brilliant game all around. I don't know why Dungeon Hunter left me in awe though. Maybe I was just suprised an Iphone game could be so awesome.

Bastion most recently, that game had a brilliant ending. The original Mass Effect was also really good in that regard as well.
