This isn't about pre-release hype, but more the reputations games earn after release. Like finding Metal Gear Solid 4 really did have a stupid amount of cutscenes to you or playing Cod and running into the stereotypical 12 year old online.

For me, I finally got around to playing Mass Effect just recently and found the combat pretty bland, but I just loved the characters, especially Garus.I've played previous Bioware games and thought the characters weren't great, but all of them in Mass Effect seemed better, even Kaiden, who started out really similar to Carth, who I hated.

Marvel vs Capcom 2. Everyone I knew said the game was crazy awesome and super fun to play. When I got the game on the PSN, I found out it was really fun but, hell a broken. It seemed to me that only people from the beginning would get into the game. Its not bad, but it didn't live up to the hype my friends gave it to me.

For me, it was finding Portal 2 to be every bit as good as Portal 1 and more. I happily burned through hours on the Co-op, solving levels and losing friends.

Assassins Creed is also one for me. Even though I keep telling myself that every game is pretty much the same rehashed combat with a few added gimmicks, I still find myself buying the new installment whenever it releases.

And Starcraft 2. eSports for life.

Mass Effect (I could barely be arsed to finish it), Dragon Age: Origins (I was expecting a better plot), Oblivion(bad, just ...bad), Witcher 2 (new combat sucked and there was less "witching" more politics), Assassin's Creed (I tried sticking to the plot but I just ended up jumping off of buildings a lot before I got bored)...

I'd add Amnesia if only because it didn't actually scare me but I liked it a lot regardless and still replay it.

Mass effect didn't live up to it's reputation for me , i played it last ( earlier this year ) and i couldn't stand it , but since i started the series i have to finish it , i liked ME2 though, let's hope ME3 is good.

Also persona 3 didn't meet my expectation(i hearn nothing but good things about it ) i felt it was dragging on too long, but all in all it was decent if nothing else ( love every other SMT game though), persona 4 was amazing.

Bioshock didn't live upto it's reputation for me , i absolutely hated that game , didn't even bother with the sequel.

Fable 2 , was terrible and i heard good things about it . Never buying a fable game again.

Alpha protocol was great , can't believe people trashed it so much.

Portal. I played it for the first time at the end of last year, having read again and again about how amazing it was. Expectations could not have been higher, and it lived up to them. Probably the most well made game I have ever played, and just as funny as everyone says.

Is it just me who's never encountered the Racist 12 year old online? Ive Had MW2 since it came out, and the multiplayers quite fun. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but on PC Hardly anyone uses voice chat anyway? I Don't play it that much anymore, but in the Happy times before A-Levels i spent a insane amount of time on it. And yet, never come across one!

Dragon Age 2. By far I was so hyped for that that I got the strategy guide special edition, and then... well it was a nice book kind of but it wasn't worth the disappointment in having a game that made me feel like it was a job and that brought no entertainment whatsoever to me.

In before some wag responds with "It's never just you!"

Seriously though, in this case, it might be just you. They're not as ubiquitous as online-gaming horror stories would have you believe, but if you play games long enough online you WILL run into the racist 12 year old. And be HORRIFIED.

Okami's reputaion of being like Legend of Zelda without the stagnation.

When i got it it far surpassed that in my eyes.

I dunno, I've encountered pricks online, but never of the younger than meant to be playing the game variety. I'm going to go double weird and say that of the pricks I've encountered, most have actually been on TF2 rather than the usual Halo and CoD crew that get slated for it.

Final Fantasy XIII without a doubt. There was so much hype for being the first Final Fantasy game on the next gen systems. It was such a let down and now they are trying to bounce back with a sequel. I'm not sure if a sequel will get me to forget how bad FFXIII was, especially since the combat system is looking very familiar and the story that has been given to us in trailers looks like it's all over the place and confusing to follow.

New Vegas wasn't that buggy. Just some texture glitches and "Cazathulu," which is what happens when a cazador glitches so that it's an unkillable 50-meter wide spikeball made of polygons.

Final Fantasy XIII,

All the bitching about it being linear and what not, if you ask me, all of it was pretty unjustified. FF13 was a great game and a great FF game if you ask me.

There's your problem. You got the one on the PSN. I have the 360 version and I don't ever play it. But I used to have the original version on PS2 and oh my god it was fun. It was a little bit less unforgiving and you actually had to unlock characters so it gave you real incentive to play Single Player. I miss it.

Mirror's Edge, Played the demo and thought that it was very original (Hard to do with modern games) . Got the game on pre-order realized that I was soooo repetitive, got sick of running through ventilation ducts for hours on end .

I remember when I first played Modern Warfare on live, It was full of those little racist shits. Never played it online for months after. Still I loved the single Player on it, I still love the SAS segment in the Chenobyl zone of Alienation (Probably because I have been there for real :))

Hmm. Infact, Twice in the 2 years ive had MW2 have i even come across someone who uses a mic (On PC). I Have encountered them before though, Just playing ONE match on my freinds Xbox and it's full of them! But surely someone must agree that nobody ever voice chats with Pc? Really on MW it's not really needed...

It's sad really, It's a decent game but ruined by the sheer amount of nobs.
