The only times I have come close to crying in a video games are the ending to terranigma, and the ghost train part from FF6. After I was done with the ghost train part, I had to pause the game to take it all in.
Terranigma is unstoppably beautiful, probably the best story on a SNES game.

Metal Gear Solid 4 at Boss' grave when he salutes her

A flash game called RPG Shooter: Starwish. A flash game made me cry more than any other game out there. Wow, that is saying something.

I actually cried when in FF7 that love interest girl dies.

Sorry guys. I still think that the FF games are awesome.
........ =_= really? i just got finished explaining to someone why everything about the FF series sucks. all of those characters are cut and paste shallow anime characters with anime reactions to everything.

go try Mafia 2 when joe's kid friend dies.
Troll much?
i troll a lot. it's intense. i should be doing epic meal time for trolling. am i right haters?
You say a series is filled with cardboard cutouts and then you go and reccoment Mafia II? Do I need to link the Yahtzee review? The games themselve make it apprently clear that they're going to play EVERY mafia trope completely straight just with the title.
well i was drunk when i watched the cutscenes and i don't know a whole lot about mobster movie motifs so i never saw it comin, go figure.

Trust me, it's not anything that an unspeakable amount of directors, writers, and actors haven't all done much better at some point in their career, and I really don't even enjoy those movies all that much.

premonition was really good, starring tom hanks, jude law, and daniel craig. all did a spectacular performance, especially jude law. you should take a look. i don't even like mobsters movies and i loved it, maybe because they were the irish mob and not stereotypical new york italians. (well i'm a movie buff, so i don't quite have a preference anyway)

I hardly ever cry at all but I guess the saddest moment in a videogame story for me was the ending of Metal Gear Solid 3.

The scene in Dragon Age 2 where
Hawke's mother dies. It was a lot more touching than her sister or her brother.

Mother 3 (Earthbound 2). Sadly, it was never localized, so you have to find a hacked fan translation online.

I cried every time I defeated a colossus in Shadow of the Colossus. It was really painful to destroy something so ancient, beautiful, and majestic.

Quoted for truth. Not many games can get a reaction out of me.. but with this game is like every ten minutes it's got me crying..

Portal 2, the second time, when I found out what the lyrics to the turret song mean. For some reason, it just did D:
I almost cried at
"Caroline deleted."
However, I did actually shout "NOOOOOOOOOO!" very loudly. For me it was the saddest moment in the game. It felt so unfair.

The latest game that had my eyes running like faucets was Persona 4.

They kill off your little sister. She's like seven years old, the cutest, most innocent character ever in a video game. She gets sick, spends weeks in pain laying in the hospital while you convince yourself that everything will be fine. Then you get a call, that she's gotten worse... you get to the hospital, and she dies...
This one hit very close to home for me since IRL, someone close to me got cancer and died in exactly the same fashion. Even the room looked the same.
This is my answer every time this thread comes up.
The way you vainly reassure her that everything is going to be all right just made it that much worse.

You know, everytime I see this type of thread, I see at leat one person who says they cried at this point in the game. Perhaps I am cynical, or just simply deranged, but I could not help laughing like a goon when that part happened.

Anyway, there are points in games that have saddened me, but not really to the point of tears. The closest I've been was when I was 12, playing through Chrono Cross for the first time. I was at the part where you had to get the hydra humour to save Kid, and I thought that if I failed she would die. It kept depressing me. That and the part where she gets shanked in Fort Dragonia, I thought she died. Oh, yeah, that's a spoiler, but the game is 10+ years old.

Count Bleck's back-story and ending in Super Paper Mario made me tear up. Yeah, yeah, it was cliched, but it was just so damn bitter sweet!
