Id Have to say near the end of KOTOR when....

if you are on an evil playthrough you can have zaalbar kill mission. Nothing like having someone kill their best firend because you saved their life

there was one time i was playing zaeed's mission in mass effect 2, with a friend on her play through. she decided she was going to be renegade, and thus decided to let the workers die. she had to press the button because i couldn't bring myself too.

I never have those moments. Why? Because when a game picks what my character does for me, I get angry or annoyed instead. I go "The hell? The game wants me to choose between these options? All of them are bad!" And just pick the 'least' bad one in my eyes, as my immersion is totally broken apart at that point anyway.

Metal Gear Solid 3, where you

HAVE to pull the trigger on The Boss.

I felt really bad for Naked Snake.

Another moment was in the first Metal Gear Solid, where I let Meryl die.

Believe it or not, Borderlands 2 had me feeling pretty bad at one particular point. It actually says a lot about how great of a villain Handsome Jack is for making you feel both angry towards him, and then totally guilty about at the same time. By the end, though, I felt pretty justified in my actions.

Also these two already mentioned:

The end of the Fallout 3 expansion "The Pitt". Goddam no-win situation, I agonized for about 20 minutes before making a choice I was entirely unhappy with.

Hanako storyline of Katawa Shoujo, but I'm not even going to put exactly what into spoilers because it must be experienced. Either you know what I'm talking about or you can take away that KS is a game that knows how to make players feel guilty for what they've done.

When you finally reach your "daughter" (Emily or whatever), get trapped, and briefly take control of a Little Sister to aid your escape. In my game, I had gotten desperate and harvested a few Little Sisters along the way, and Emily (or whatever) as it turns out was watching and learning from me. So she felt totally justified in harvesting a Little Sister herself. You discover this plot twist FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE CHILD SHE'S MURDERING. I'll admit that it had a much bigger effect then any "moral choice" in the original Bioshock did.

In the evil ending, when you have to slowly kill Zeke as he tries to shoot you over and over again, despite knowing he can't possibly win. Holy SHIT. I was not expecting that from an "Infamous" game.

Yeah, you knew this would be here. In my game, I felt most guilty at the end of Episode 4. See, I had made a pretty huge mistake and told Clementine we would try to find her parents, and I held to the promise long after I knew it was impossible. I ended up finally telling her the truth at the end of the episode...After I had to tell her about Ben dying. She was NOT happy with me, to say the least. It was really the only time I was less then honest with her, and I felt pretty terrible about it.

Spec Ops: the line. For obvious reasons best left unmentioned to people who haven't played it.

Well to be fair I didn't feel guilty, I just felt bad. I did the right thing by fighting for the tribals home, I just didn't quite foresee them losing their innocence in the process.

The courier's story is fucking tragic. Anybody who's played this DLC knows exactly what I mean.

When I willingly raided that car for supplies. I didn't feel guilty until I found out it wasn't as abandoned as I thought.

Anytime I'm railroaded into killing a guy, who otherwise would have been salvageable/innocent.

EDIT: Definitely The Pitt's endgame, definitely felt like a stain on your characters soul either way.

The Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion and Skyrim (more Skyrim than Oblivion). Some of the kills in Oblivion I thought were actually hilarious (death by moose head), but than came the time when I had to kill my brothers and sisters in the sanctuary... harsh... cept for the Orc that told me about the time he killed a little Nord girl, I killed him without a second thought.

In Skyrim, I refuse to do the Brotherhood quests in any other playthrough, only getting to the point of being allowed to join and then killing the practitioner... and the other captives (they were assholes anyways...)

Xcom, when the aliens kill civilians. They're my babies and I failed to protect them...but it's more annoyance at the aliens. (hey, that's MY civilian)

Dragons dogma, killing chimeras. It starts off a fair fight, but then you've reduced it to one head, it's bloody and battered, surrounded by four of us hacking away at it and it's lets out a defiant roar with it's last breath after a hard fought but futile fight.

None, really. I always try to be the biggest bastard I can in games. Even when I try to do the good guy run I end up evil.
Fable 2 is a good example of that, tried really hard (well not that hard) to stay good. But then some asshole kicked my dog, so I murdered the entire town.

Even Spec Ops: The Line, I was never shocked or appalled. Most of the terrible stuff I would have done anyway, even if everyone was telling me not to. I also tried to get as many civilians killed as I could, except if I was in an ammo-stressful situation.
At the spot where you have to choose which to kill, the soldier or the civvie, I tried REALLY HARD to kill them both. If only I had a sticky left at the time.

So yeah, probably the worst I've ever felt about anything would have something to do with hurting animals. I hate it when animals get hurt.

Hitman Absolution. the first mission you have to ninja your way around a greenhouse onto a cliff ledge and to get into the building you have to go through a window, which of course some dudes chatting on the phone just hearing that he doesnt have prostate cancer and he cant wait to tell his wife, then you have to grab him by the shirt and rip him out the window while he screams " what? wait! Ahhhh!! " crunch.

it happened so fast i actually stopped playing for a moment because i felt bad. that was a totally innocent dude realizing he wasnt going to die of cancer! O_O AND THEN YOU RANDOMLY THROW HIM OUT THE WINDOW!

harsh bro....harsh

well that seems more like a big LOL moment to me.

Of course I havent played the game (yet) but I am pretty sure I would find it pretty hilarious lol XD. I usually just find that kind of stuff so freaking fun! I was laughting the whole time of my playthougt of Bioschock games too (I love those games)
yeah the problem was they play it for laughs but it does sorta come off as a serious moment.
pretty sure the dude says "thanks doc this is the best day of my life" and then stands there forever waiting for you to throw him to his doom

Well, that certainly sound more like something I would laugh, really laugh hard, and feel a litte sad for the victim at the same time.

But still laugh. lol.

Surprisingly little Mass Effect.
Personally, the Destruction ending from ME3's ending was the most poingnant, given the choices I'd made and the way I looked at the other endings. I can only hope that EDI and the geth would have been okay with sacrificing themselves and that the galaxy would have learned how to get along with synthetics.

Control was tempting, but I didn't know how long Shepard's mind would last, and giving a human being the power over the Reapers and altering his mind that much? Too much of a crapshoot.

Plus, my Shepard "survived" Destruction, which I like. That might make me a horrible person, but someone's got to build Tali that house, dammit.

Alpha Protocol! I just remembered a specific example. That game from the outset establishes that you're all spies and you can't trust a lot of the people you meet. So there was this one person in particular that I was really unsure about, so I tended to try and be a dick to them so that they wouldn't have an excuse to get involved with me (and fluctuating between that and trying to gain their favour so I could trap them)

So this person
had given up a lot and risked herself to warn me that people were going to try and assassinate me. But I thought it was a trick to get close to me. And at a later point in the game one of the bad guys 'captures' her and tells you that you can disarm the bomb or save her. I figured it was probably a trick and that she was really working with them, and anyway I'd save more people by disarming the bomb. I disarm the bomb, the bad guy brings the girl to me and then shoots her dead in front of my face.

And I realised I probably could have trusted her.

I felt so guilty about all the things I'd done to them.

I felt guilty when I put the main character of Journey through that experience on top of the mountain. It's a good thing that we get something awesome after that.

I've never picked up Walking Dead yet, is it really that good? Or am I just another doubter, waiting to make sure that everything fits what I'd like in a game.

bastion: i much prefer the evacuation ending essentially damning civilisation and forcing zulf to live with it. i reckon its the ending music that really got me tho
That's interesting; I thought that was really the only ending I could choose in good conscience. It seemed to me that allowing the Bastion to reset everything was dooming the world to having the same events, with all their tragedies, transpire again... And even, possibly, that this had already happened at least once before.

Yeah, the "Dark Side" ending of KOTOR wasn't exactly subtle. But it was certainly effective.

It's really good! I'm not a fan of adventure games in general, so I'm not sure how it holds up to the general standard, but as a video game story with a great set of characters it's fantastic! For some reason it's taking me a really long time to play it though - I'll play it for almost an entire episode straight, then put it down for a few weeks, then go back to it. So I'm only up to the third episode. I can't wait to see what comes next though!

I agree with you on Journey! Playing through that part was just like "Oh. Oh no. What have I done"

That feeling doesn't last long!

I must check it out then!

Wait a minute, I neglected to mention Shadow of the Colossus? By the heavens, shoot me down! I felt major guilt killing the Colossi. Damn you Team ICO for making me feel really guilty and thank you for giving us a masterpiece in gaming.

So in Fallout 3 outside of Megaton there's a homeless guy who asks for water. I decided I'd be a nice guy and go out on a self-imposed quest to get him some water. I then got distracted by a few innocent animals (had the animal-friendly perk) on my way back, and started to punch those animals and chase after them. I was having a lot of fun. I come back to the homeless guy almost a day later and he's dead of thirst.

Not the brightest of moments.
