Persona 4. Now I have yet to find someone who has said the literal words "I hate Persona 4" so that's a good sign but I can tell that those people who dislike JRPGs are silently judging. I had no love for JRPGs either, I was pretty neutral on the whole thing. I wasn't gonna have a fit over FF VIII-5 The Revengance being released nor was I going to go on about FF7 being baist thing evar.

Basically the long and short of it is that Persona 4 transcends genre as far as i'm concerned. It's just that good.

I mean just listen to this:

TOO GOOD!

Maybe the Ace Attorney series qualifies... Depends on how boring you are I suppose.

"Nyyyyehhh real lawyers don't shout and point fingers! That's not the correct use of the word Objection! Why does Phoneix get bitched at for doing his job? Not finding anything in a Cross-Examination can't pin blame on the Defence personally! WHY IS THERE SO MUCH PHYSICAL ABUSE IN THE COURTROOM! THIS IS RUINING MY IMMURSION IN THIS SUPAH SRS GAEM!"
I once saw a video of persona. Some school teens were playing darts in a club.
Wow I hit it in the middle sit on my lap, badass levels over 9000 lol.

I hate Persona 4.
Is that third sentence even English? Sorry if you're making some sort of joke because the Internet can't translate across a few sarcastic-ish statements. So feel free to ignore the following if i've missed a joke.

Well, i'm glad you've achieved a super high level of intelligence and/or perception because if one video you "once saw" makes you so absolutely positive that you hate the entire 40-50 hour game then go you.

I can't remember darts being in the club scene but i'll let that one slide.

This is where i'm tempted to bring down the troll accusations... I shall refrain however, since this site is troll free 99% of the time.

[sub]God A 9001 reference, seriously my troll senses are going haywire[/sub]

Those fucking voices.
That fucking writing.
Fucking shoot me now.

(EDIT: Yeah that second sentence was sarcastic)
Ohhhhhhhhhh, you mean the anime? Cuz that's from the anime they released somewhat recently. Yeah, fine I can totally agree with you on that. It's what happens when you try to shove 40-50 hours of gameplay into like 30 20 minute episodes.

It's pretty much a complete, if unintentional and unfortunate bastardisation of the game :/

Besides the english voices are awesome in the game. I don't have to rip Teddie's eyes out because in English he's not out "desu-ing" Suiseiseki by spamming Kuma into every other word.

Now there's an old reference and a half.

And HA, you don't hate Persona 4! You hate Persona 4: The Animation! I WIN AGAIN!

Plants vs Zombies
It has that charm that seems to appeal to just about anyone.

Rock Band and Super Mario bros 3 would be strong runners-up though.
Both games have draw people to either try it or watch it.

And seeing Venice for the first time is not something that will leave me.
Oh, man. One of the best moments in gaming. The game is so atmospheric and magical. And Venice is perfect. I love everything about it. And I particularity like the way Ubisoft made water in Venice. It's completely unrealistic but it looks so pretty I can't stop looking at it.
I hope Ubisoft don't go for the 'realism' angle in Assassin's Creed post-III (let's be honest, they'll do it, it doesn't need sequels, but they'll do it); the 'somewhat realistic-but-stylised' design is much nicer than complete realism, hell I'd like to see an AssCreed game in the visual style of that short film they released after Revelations.

On Topic: Stacking.

Like many others in this thread, it oozes charm, it's the perfect length for its price, and it's a unique concept nicely executed.

Especially agreed on the exploration bit. Love those games where you can point to a spot in the distance and then just walk there. Or freerun. Or horseride. Or parachute.
Games need to do that more. It's one of those things games uniquely excel at.
Parachute jumping saved Brotherhood and Revelations for me, especially Galata tower in Revelations, gets sooo high up that the wind starts whistling around you, it's awesome.
Ha, the parachute mention was actually supposed to refer to Just Cause 2, just like I had Skyrim in mind for the horseride - kinda forgot that you can do both in the AssCreeds too :D

Lost Planet 2, the environment in those first few levels was so gorgeous, the ability to search and explore for hidden routes and use your grapple to launch yourself into an akrid and kill it with machine gun fire will live fondly in my heart for a while. Sure the game got a little more stale during those few levels where you foughy nothing but normal people, but damn were those akird battle fun as hell.

Poor production, muddy, dull and in dire need of people who are higher calibre singers than those you'd see at your average karaoke night. The whiny nasal verses are the worst of all, yuck.

Sorry, but it's bad from a technical and artistic standpoint in my honest opinion.
Agreed, but only on the singer aspect. The composition itself is BRILLIANT.
It would be 100x better without vocals, but that's just me. The guy behind the music itself (Shoji Meguro) is pure genius, and I've recognized his work since the early days of Persona 1.

Here is some of his work on the Trauma Center franchise - you can see is handiwork (or rather, hear) across many Atlus titles.

What about the poor audio production too? Can't deny that either. ;)

The video you linked is much, much better on every level. He should stick to that instead of pop music, it seems. Bursting with character if a little melodramatic, it's quite musically interesting too. I'm guessing the poor audio quality is due to Youtube as the levels seem perfectly balanced and sounds quite processed.

Do you know if Shoji Meguro also produces his music or if he's just a composer? That may explain the massive difference between the two in that area. Thanks for sharing as it's been somewhat illuminating.

ME3, Civ5 and FO3. Not that I can't understand why people hate them, I just can't understand how that can be so petty

Yes. I actually didn't start with P4 is started with 3. And if it weren't for the fact that you can only control the protagonist it would have been outstanding. Now P4, a fantastic experience thats such a damn shame you can't play it for the first time twice. The gameplay even turn based wise is solid, story is fun, characters are charming and are so deep that it would make Joss Whedon's jaw drop. Its just a game that anyone who hates JRPGs would probably not put down because its so engaging. Now I will say the music is a little weird, but based on the instrumentals and just how catchy the background and battle music is its the funnest music in gaming history.

Resident Evil 4. There are a couple of mishaps, but it's just so varied and fun to play you can't help but enjoy yourself.

Assassin's Creed 2

Don't get me wrong the game has faults, but whenever I feel just the slightest twinge of frustration with it all I have to do is climb up the nearest tall building, look around and think 'Damn, this game is pretty...'.

and in 3 years that has never got old. I think it has something to do with knowing it's not just a sky box. Not only are the aesthetics so beautiful, you can explore every inch of the terrain.
Yes, ACII is unquestionably a gorgeous game. Even by today's standards it still looks really good. I don't know if you ever went back to the mountain area after the cart chase. I did because I never had time to take in the view since I was more concentrated on the driving my carriage. If you haven't gone back their and taken in the view, I highly recommend that you do. It is spectacular.

My own choice for this topic is the soundtrack to Bastion. I can how the narration, gameplay, and aesthetics might not be for everyone (I loved them) but I don't see how anyone could dislike that superb soundtrack. The song when you are carrying Zulf at the end of the game is one of my favorite moments in any video game ever. And then the credits song, I get shivers every time I hear it:

Omg yes a thousand times yes, take down those AI f**kers from burnout two in a shower of sparks flames and sheer awesome. No more Ai driving you into oncoming traffic because if they so much as get near you they will become permanently acquainted with the wall for the rest of the race no reset can save them no sript or code will stop you and your domination and revenge for the last two games that they caused so much agony in... now the tables have turned they need to run, run and hide from you.

Okay i have calmed down now...srry dont know what happened there, what where we talking about again?...... oh yeah burnout 3 back when EA was good it was a great game.

This game is near perfect, the story is well written and incredibly interesting. Gameplay is challenging without being brutal and very very fun. Voice acting is, for the most part, really good. and it looks gorgeous as well
I haven't heard any bad things about part 2. I played the first one and I thought it was a very solid game.

I get flamed for this a lot by the way. I played the first two and I swore never to play anymore. They are breathtaking games for sure, with very ambitious ideas but they are so easy. It's insane ...and not very fun. :(

Probably the original Paper Mario. Yeah, it's Mario-the RPG, but it's fun, and it's a way to get people who don't like RPG's into them.
Completely agree. The orignal Paper Mario, as well as Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door are some of my favourite games of all time. I can still go back and play them and enjoy them just as much as I did the first time. It's rare to find a game that feels fun so consistently.

Saints Row The Third seriously how many games mix game play and music so well, I don't care who you are if you don't feel like a bad ass in the part where you have to take back the penthouse while Power plays in the background, YOU HAVE NO SOUL!

not to mention the car sing along, the sky diving into an incoming airplane, surfing on top of air jets, when you become a contestant in the TV game show, when you participate in a wrestling match and the crowd cheers you on and counts every punch you deal in consecutive, filming a Star Wars spoof where you are the main actor, taking over the city a la Rambo, witnessing a chemical outbreak that leads to putting you in the middle of a zombie apocalypse that you have to stop or get eaten alive, beating up theme park mascots, and nothing will ever beat firing a shot gun that summons giant sewer sharks :)

seriously if you've never played this game GO PLAY IT NOW!!!!! there's so many things to see and you'll probably skip GTA:V because it'll never reach the craziness of SR 3

Objectively, I can sit back and rationalize why people dislike Halo, I really can. Shooters aren't appealing to everyone. The story can seem shallow if you haven't jumped into the books. Multiplayer can be boring, or obnoxious when you run into little kids or douchebags. Heterosexual men aren't lured into it by the sheer sexy testosterone filled shell of hotness that is Master Chief. I can understand that... until I play it.

When the controller is put into my hands and I enter in a game of Firefight or Campaign, there's this energy and adrenaline that pumps into me and I have more fun than I have had playing any other game ever, save maybe the intensity of Thief. There is nothing more satsifying that shooting a Grunt in the head with the pistol, or knocking a Hunter down with a Spartan Laser, or sticking a plasma grenade on the back of an Elite. It's so intense and so much fun and I can't imagine anyone not having fun while I'm playing it.
