Freelancer.

It had the potential of being the best freeform game to ever exist, overshadowing the likes of X and Hardwar (bonus points if you know the latter). Instead, it was just a slightly-less-restrictive space fighting sim. A good one, mind you, but with so VERY much wasted potential.

Hell dood, everything seems to fall way short of hardwar.

The Hex Coda, if anyone's ever heard of it; that's more a case of the ending never coming though. Despite that, the second part of it was noticably worse than the first.

Savage Moon--I was playing the first level you meet the acid spitters (one of the first levels of the game like level 5) and after the wave was finished I noticed that (It's one of the later of the twelve waves) about half or maybe three-quarters of all my towers were gone. I was wondering what happened 'cause it didn't seem like they posed much of a threat. So it may me ask "WTF HAPPENED HERE *Nerd Rage*"

Err... And which bit was that again?
Way early in the game you have a giant booming voice teach you how to use a flashlight while light shines down from above.

I mean, it was just too silly for me.

I still liked the game, but from then on any chance this game had to be scary was completely vaporized...lol
Wasn't that Thomas Zane.
...whatever.

Mass Effect 2: It was horridly linear for an RPG, the collectors were not as interesting or fun to fight as the Geth, and why the hell isn't there a good antagonist.

I would say Modern Warfare 2, but I think I've done that enough for a lifetime..... so....

Command and Conquer 4.
Beautiful Command and Conquer what did they do to you. Which bright spark came up with the persistant internet connection even for single player idea, or the crawler idea, or the terrible storyline that made no effort to answer anything.

Indigo Prophecy. I can't put my finger on exactly where it went belly-up, but it became apparent after Lucas dies - BUT DOESN'T and it became headdesk worthy at the sex scene. I mean, EEEEWWWWWWW-

Bioshock 2. It was supposed to be Bioshock, but more and better. How did it end up spectacularly uninteresting and offensively easy? I was a zealous BS 1 fan, telling everyone to play it, but not even sure I'd give a shit if a third came out.

Alternatively, I'd go with Alan Wake as others have mentioned. I was totally hooked by the story and telling thereof until the repetitive gameplay started boring me. I actually stopped in Chapter 3 and only finished the game last week purely out of boredom. Traded the game in the next day. Actually, I suppose I know where it went wrong: the gameplay.

But... Did you... What?!

Did you play through all of the game? That wasn't God, and even if it was (which it's not) it's a dream anyway.
Yes, I know that wasn't God, that was just part of the joke.

Alan Wake. Decent game, decent ( if confusing ) story. Had a decent amount of fun from renting it.

But it wasnt great. And you hear about the delays, and to be honest, it doesnt have the feel of beign delayed to improve.

Its like if your getting a car, and you read about a car that isnt amazing, but sounds interesting and worth a look. Then you hear its being delayed to improve design and how great it is, so you wait, and wait, and wait. Then it comes out, and you find out that its only ok ( which is what you originaly expected ) but after the wait and "delays for improvement" you expected more.

Also, Backbreaker. The studio made it clear it wasnt competing with Madden, but its like opening a small bakery beside some well established big chain one. There will be comparisons.

I got my hopes up it would be good. Downloaded the demo, and yea... Physics engine is really good. But everythign else is mediocre. Camera is good for seing hits, but for actual gameplay it sucks. Controls suck ( right stick to throw ? WHy, what was wrong with facebuttons ?)

Also, i enjoy gameplay outside of the actual games in my sports games ( franchise mode, etc ). And Backbreaker pretty much tacks it on.

To summarize. The biggest one trick pony ive ever seen. Plus, being a fan of Madden, i have to hear bout BB every other discussion. Its like if your a big fan of big budget summer blockbusters, and every time you talk about them theres that one guy who pops in and talks about some stupid indi film made with a $1000 budget that sucks, and that by not liking it your buyign into the "machine" and idiots and sheeple.

I haven't even played the game yet, but watching a Let's Play of it I realized that that would be the whole reason I wouldn't play it. I can live with something breaking the immersion in the form of an on-screen tutorial, that's only momentary and not something you're left thinking about. Say Alan found a transcript that mentioned the whole light thing, or another visible character suggests it, that I can accept. But a bright ass light and a god like voice... That's akin to a game developer walking on screen and explaining everything. It just completely breaks the mood.

Any game that resorts to a QTE.

Whoever decided this was a decent game mechanic should be shot, imo.

If you want me to be quick on the responses, add in some intense action that's controlled in the same manner as the rest of the game, or just give me a cutscene, not some movie I can "fail" at when some random key appears on the screen.

QTEs I guess look like a good idea on paper - trying to make a cutscene into something interactive and more gamelike - but in my experience just acts as an immersion-breaking, usually infuriating annoyance.

there are only 2 games that come to recent memory that made me ask this question, they are Command and Conquer 4: tiberian twilight and assassin's creed

with C&C 4 i saw the biggest mutilation of a franchise in one game

with assassin's creed i saw a good idea that got married by repetition
