Except that the team making it has changed so much about the game it's not even really going to be anything like Half-Life. They're using not one track from the original soundtrack. Altering weapons. Added new types of enemies. Changing level layouts. Adding and even removing entire map sections. They're even adding characters and changing the story.
Basically...it's not Half-Life HD. (and no, I don't consider much of what they're changing to be "improvements")
Actually they are using the original soundtrack and they are NOT changing the story. They said that they would cut the "On a Rail" Chapter a bit, which is boring btw. They are only adding characters which appear in the later half life games. The maplayout is not changed to a point where you cant see, that this is your old half life.
And they have a Wiki where you can view their "changes" to the half life game. They maplayout is not changed to a point where you cant see, that this is your old half life.
I'm sorry, but have you even perused their site? They're changing so much it's not at all going to be the same. (I point to you saying they're cutting the On a Rail chapter, yet you still say they're keeping it all the same)
Let's start with the level designs and the fact that they're cutting On a Rail. You may have found that section "boring", but not everyone did. In fact, I've known people that thought it was one of the best chapters. If one of these friends decides to play Black Mesa: Source, they'll be sorely disappointed as it won't be the Half-Life they remember.
Likewise, adding characters, even if they're supposedly from later Half-Life games, changes the story and atmosphere drastically. And, the second they start doing that is the second the story is no longer cannon and is rather just a fan retelling. Again, not the Half-Life we all remember.
Lastly, I'd like to address the soundtrack. You claim they're using the original soundtrack. Have you listened to the samples they have on their site? The only, and I do mean only, similarities these new tracks have to the old is their titles. They sound NOTHING like the old songs. Not even remotely close. Compare the original Surface Tension to the BMS teams version.
Now, I'm not saying Black Mesa: Source won't be a quality, fan-made version of Half-Life wherein they're telling their own story (though I question that assertion). But, "Half-Life HD" it's not.
{edit} I apologize, that came off as a bit confrontational. Not at all my intention. It's just too damn early in the morning on a Saturday and I didn't get @(*% for sleep last night. :/
