No games need sequels. Sorry, but that's my opinion. Unless they set out with a full story in mind and decided from day one, or at least during the development of the first game, there is no reason to drag things out. Mass Effect deserves sequels, because they were planned. Bioshock did not deserve a sequel, because they were just grabbing for cash.

I know, this mindset means that technically Portal 2 shouldn't exist, and Portal 2 was great, but I still think that no games *need* sequels unless they were planned from the beginning.
I think you're a bit over-reacting. Yeah, a lot of times a game is made with a nice good ending that everyone loves and then the game's developers decide "Hey! That game made us a hell of a lot of money! Let's make a sequel!" and it often goes badly. This isn't necessarily the case for everything and you shouldn't put every sequel down. Just accept that obviously, if a game makes money, the developers will probably make a sequel. Sometimes sequels can end up wonderful, others end up horrible. Just stop complaining and if you don't like a game, don't play it. If you play it and don't like it, take it back. If you play it on the PC and can't take it back because stores are evil and don't like you taking their games back, then burn it! That's what I did with The Force Unleashed II and I enjoyed every second of the burning, far more than the game.
You misunderstand me. I'm not saying that no sequels are good, oh no, not by a long shot. The topic of the thread isn't "What game sequels are good", it's "What games *need* a sequel". I'm saying that no games *need* sequels. Sequels will always be made, and many will be good. Batman Arkham Asylum didn't need a sequel, but I'm really looking forward to Arkham City. Portal didn't need a sequel, but Portal 2 was a ton of fun. Sequels aren't bad by default, they're just not necessary.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth needs a sequel. Sadly, the compnay went bankrupt before they started working on the sequel, and even before they finished the PC version of the game.
Are you sure? I am pretty certain I played that game on the PC as I never owned an Xbox.

It was really cool, yes, though the addition of guns didn't do the game very well, I'm afraid. In a sequel, that could be fixed, and afaik, Bethesda still has the rights, so maybe...
Basically the company went bankrupt halfway through the development of the PC version, which was going to be larger and better than the xbox version, but when the company went bankrupt most of the people just quit, then a handful stayed and slowly just quit as they continued developing the game and finally there were probably only 2 or 3 people working on it when they finished it.

The inclusion of guns, I didn't think was so bad, considering there were still things that guns couldn't do shit about (the shoggoth and the little cthulhu beast things) and even when you got the crazy yithian gun, you still had those annoying as hell Polyps to deal with and overall I thought it was a good game.

Also, it should be noted that Bethesda, I don't think had much involvement in the game as a whole, it was Headfirst's game and Bethesda was there to keep the game going.

If you look at some of the concept videos, the original game was going to be pretty awesome. One of the concepts was that your character would lose his sanity temporarily and friendly characters would all of a sudden appear to be deep ones to you and you'd flip out and kill them... Only to realize that it was just your friend who was in no way a deep one. I really would like to see a remake of the game the way it was originally intended to be, and then a sequel like was planned.

Well, the whole point of "What games NEED a sequel" I think is just, "What games either had a lot of loose ends that you'd like to see tied up or were a lot of fun and a sequel would be really awesome?"

Portal 2 needs a sequel. There's more to be said about this world and GLaDOS's character is still in its infancy.

EA announced that they were cancelling the sequel already in development, because the first game didn't get enough money to risk a sequel. The decided to turn the entire studion towards BF3.
They announced afterward that they didn't actually cancel it.

This might be some good news for my fellow Republic Commando fans.

I was trying to get Republic Commando to work on my PC the other day, seeing as how I've had it and a hell of a lot of other star wars games I got from the huge Lucas Arts week on steam like... A year ago or something like that. Sadly, I still can't make it work on my good PC. But, I looked in the news on steam and noticed that just recently it was announced that

"LucasArts has lured former Republic Commando director Tim Longo away from Tomb Raider and handed him Unreal Engine 3 to play around with."
And it's being speculated if there will be a sequel to Republic Commando, which would be awesome.

Yes! Still my favourite shooter ever. That game had some of the best banter I've ever heard in any videogame, and it made me really care about the characters. I was genuinely sad at the ending. :(

Black, it was a shooter which was the kind of game that's intro featured guns in soft focus. with other words it was gun porn, what was so good about it was that that was trying to be gun porn. Not trying to excuse itself with 'realism' or anything. I really what a sequel to that, does anyone played Black here?

Bulletstorm should have a sequel. Infact, given the ending I'm pretty sure that's what they've had planned.

DUNGEON KEEPER, DUNGEON KEEPER, DUNGEON KEEPER.

The world needs more Dungeon Keeper.

...I was going to say 'the world needs more Horny', but I thought better of it.

[small]Oh, wait.[/small]

Ah, good, someone else covered it for me. Also, your avatar? Amazing.

Now, as for my list:

Alan Wake
Mirror's Edge
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Maybe Red Dead Redemption, about what his son did (maybe he goes to war?)
Metroid Prime 3, so they can deliver on their secret ending cliffhanger
Halo 3 (and ODST so we can see what happens to that team)
Halo Wars (I want to know what happened to the Spirit of Fire)

Any other games I feel deserve sequels are definitely getting them, so there we go.
