The re-release of Halo: Combat Evolved is not a mere upgrade to HD like with God of War and Beyond Good & Evil. They have rebuilt the game on the Halo: Reach engine and added in a few things that weren't there in the original release.

If other HD Remakes did the same thing; rebuilding the original game on the latest games engine, then I'd be all for it. Simply upping the resolution to 720p (for console games, obviously PC games are user-defined) and giving a small upgrade to the texture resolution is nothing more than a cash grab and should be condemned.
Well, yeah, those HD revamps are simple cash-grabs, but there's a little more to it than that. Most of them (GoW, PoP, the first three Splinter Cells, the Ico collection) are being released for the PS3. This isn't just a cash-grab; in the first-party "God of War"s case, if not any of the others, it's a rather pathetic "we're sorry for taking out backwards compatibility with the PS2" gesture.

As a PS3 owner who doesn't own a PS2, it's a nice way to get exposed to those older games without dropping the still-excessive bit of cash for a PS2 AND the games. PS2's still sell for quite a bit compared to other consoles of its generation. I could expect to spend more than a hundred bucks on a PS2, "God of War," and "God of War 2" depending on where I get all of that, and yet I can buy the God of War Collection for a system I already have for 40 dollars. It's piss-poor on Sony's part that they removed PS2 compatibility in pretty much all the PS3's made after launch, but it's still nice for what it's worth to still be able to play those games without investing in another system.

Here are my picks.

2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
4. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (multiplayer purposes as well)
5. Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (same reasons as 4 and if the developers don't give us a third one :( )
I already love you.

I can't believe nobody has said Okami.
YES YES YES!!

That's exactly what I was going to post and I'm surprised no-one else said it either.

That game is so perfect for an HD remake! The gorgeous art style NEEDS to be realised in HD! It would be so amazing. The improvement that it would make would so much more than make up for the lack of motion controls. They fit well with the game, but they're not necessary. I have the game on PS2 and they works fine.

I just want so bad to see that game show off it's wonderful art style on a machine that can actually make the most of it! I imagine it would look something like Eternal Sonata, but much better.

Timesplitters.

If only to get Timesplitters back into the public eye.

Combine the stories of all games into one big-ass campaign(keeping each game's gameplay intact in their respectable campaigns).

And have the multiplayer be like Timesplitters 2, with a couple of good things taken from Future Perfect.

And the Mapmaker. I believe it was the same between both games, think Future Perfect had a bit more to play with though.

Point is, Timesplitters.
Cross your fingers that TS 4 will be a combination of all of them. The three campaigns and a brand new one.

I'd give Team Buddies or Ape Escape a HD remake if I could.

But still, if Timesplitters 4 has regenerating health and a 2 weapon limit, I may kill a man.
And I'll join you. Hopefully it won't but if it does we shall march onto Crytek UK and nuke their building, then nuke their corpses.. Then nuke them again for good fucking measure.
I endorse this.

Unless the article I just read was completely bogus, this isn't quite true. The game is running on two engines: the original Halo engine, and the Reach one with updated graphics that sits on top of it. Just like the Monkey Island remake.

There are new features, but I believe those are multiplayer-only.

EDIT, actually it might even be 3 engines. The original, a proprietary one on top of that, and the Reach engine for multiplayer. Accounts vary.

There's something else I would like to add to this thread.

I personally really don't see the point of remaking Halo 1. It's not old enough. It's not like the game is a long-gone classic which people yearn for but can't play on current consoles. It's relatively recent and you can still play it on the 360 an PC. And the sequels it spawned, which are still coming out, are generally a very similar experience. I guess there's an argument for wanting to play it online again but as I said, there are other Halo games that are very similar and you can still play online with. Also with the game being made on (or partly) the Halo Reach engine it stands to reason that the online will be very similar to that game anyway.

It baffles me as to why they thought this was something worth doing. Maybe it would be more justifiable some time further in the future, like when the trilogy starting with Halo 4 is over, but I think now is too soon. It's not really worth it.

There are so many other games that deserve to be remade more than Halo 1. This thread is full of examples.

However, Hitman, DMC, Legacy of Kain, and Star Wars Battlefront... Not a chance.
They actually are bringing out HD versions of the first DMC games:

Or at least they probably are. Only problem is there it says PS3 only. :(

Damn you mods, and damn you STEAM for your policy on MODS.
Steam doesn't have a policy on Mods does it? Infact I'm pretty sure that most Valve games have a folder for mods that come with the game. I play a modded Oblivion, The Witcher, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Fallout 3 on Steam with no issue.

Some mods, like the KOTOR Wide Screen mod, require using the no-CD executable which is against the rules because it allows you to launch the game outside of the Steam client. So according to Steam's Terms of Service, it's not ok.

I never would have bought KOTOR from them had I known... it looks like shit with the preset resolutions.

Damn my t.v.

Damn it to hell!!!!!
Ah, sorry to hear that. Just checking it out for myself and it's confirmed that you do infact need to launch with the no-CD executable. Man that kinda sucks.

The Deception series could use a nice HD graphical overhaul from those rough PS1 textures they have going for them right now.
The mind practically boggles at how many achievements/trophies Tecmo could cook up for the myriad trap combos one can create (trap rings and environmental traps) and who the traps are used on and when if at all.

Anytime that they even think about making another Dead Or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball/Paradise game, they should just remake a Tecmo classic instead!

Really what I want is Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 redone in modern graphics, all the little bugs in 1 fixed, and everything that was broken or taken out in 2 fixed and replaced. It needs to happen, and it needs to happen now.

So what I'm saying is, keep Obsidian's pathetic little hands off 2.

I would have said Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3, but seeing that we are already getting them, I wont. well, MGS1 would be nice though (I have no idea why that one isnt in the collection)
I would also love to see an HD remake of Unreal Tournament 1999, it truly deserves it.

I was just reading some posts in the last pages and I TOTALLY agree, a remake for Vagrant Story would be FANTASTIC. Now that's a game that really needs a remake.
