Those games seem to have the opposite effect to me. Now NO ONE can make a gritty realistic shooter except Infinity Ward and DICE without millions of fanboy's yelling "CLONE CLONE CLONE", all the other developers have to target other markets. Seriously, name one codish shooter that has done well.
Difficult question to answer, my friend.
While the CoD supporters who use forums are usually smart enough to scream CLONE CLONE CLONE, how many 13 year olds do you know of who do this?
I have a little brother, one who gets whatever the hell he damn well pleases. Unfortunately, after playing my copy of the original Modern Warfare (which, was decent enough), he started getting games that were gritty, shitty, and "realistic". Shitty games like Frontlines clog my game library. If your a teenager, you dont care if its a clone, or a quick cash in. You just wanna shoost stuff with your "realisitic" rifles (That never jam, need cleaning, make noises that are no where close to accurate, and can be shoot near a window without it shattering).
AS FOR MY MMO POINT, instead of responding to the 4 other messages and points, Ill just reiterate my point.
ANY game is addictive. ANY game can sink a person in, for HOUR on end, and rob them of other games. I have a friend who's life consists of working 6 hour shifts, and when he doenst entertain guests or go out with friends, he sits his ass in front of MW2. I dont think sinking time into a game ruins the industry; I think its actually the games themselves that threaten the industy. CoD and Halo spawn unoriginal clone games, that sell to idiots and teenagers, which really kills independence in gaming. Why make a good, original idea when you dont need to?
Game addiction =/= ruining the industry
Also, I would like to deviate for a second, and ask fellow WoW fans why Wrath was so bad?
As a player since Vanilla, I liked Wrath. The difficulty is near-on par with that of Van and BC. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE, however, is accessability.
Blizzard made it easier to recieve raiding-quality gear. Which, trust me, is a good thing. Raiding was much less fun when you had to wait HOURS to get geared enough individuals. Getting gear was about as fun as getting punched in the throat. Blizzard making gear easier to get your hands on was not a bad thing; it cut down the time it took to get into raiding, making it easier for people who couldnt sink 9 hours a day into WoW to be able to experience its content.
I assure you, the raids now are just as hard as the raids in other expansions. The only factor to change is gear. The ONE exception being SWP. /shudder
