Mine are:
Portal: Even though it copied it's game mechanic from Narbulac Drop, Portal is a game liked by everyone. Short and Sweet, we all wait in anticipation to see if Portal 2 will met it's fans unreasonable standards.
The Neverhood: Some impossible puzzles, but nonetheless, a fantastic point and click adventure game. Great art style, quirky setting, and a great ending.
I know I could name more, but I'd hate to ninja all the options.
I will second that, and add Rome Total War to the list.FFHAuthor said:Shogun: Total War, because it created real time battlefield strategy.
There are also great old games that epitomize a certain style and which haven't and cannot really be surpassed. On a basic level, for example, it's hard to "improve" on Tetris; it does what it sets out to do pretty much perfectly.Trolldor said:Nothing will ever hold on forever 'as it is'.
There are great old games, classics, that are frankly boring now because of what technology has allowed us to do, because more and more possibilities have opened.
