Games that would be great if they had tight controls

Are there any games you've played that would have been good if it weren't for crummy controls, take Epic Mickey and Monster Hunter for examples.

Monster Hunter despite its irritating controls is amongst my favourite games at the moment (heres hoping with the sales numbers they release a HD version for PS3 and 360).

But these two games either had camera issues or annoying gameplay flaws that spoiled what could otherwise be an amazing experience.

So yeah, can you think of others.

GTA Vice City on the PC.

You need to be an octopus to complete that RC flying mission.

I agree with Monster Hunter. I hate how some of the fans hide behind those horrid controls as somehow being a test of "skill". No. They just suck. They fucking suck. And because of that, I can't enjoy the games at all. I've tried Tri on Wii and MHFU on PSP. Seriously, shape up the clunky combat. It's barely functional, least of all with giant creatures moving around all the time and the shitty camera. Get Lock-On or something for that shit.

It needs to take some cues from Phantasy Star's recent entries. Lock-On, dodge rolls, the item palette, etc.

I think Killzone 3 would be interesting with cod like controls. Don't get me wrong though, I still like them the way they are. It would just be cool to try it the other way.

Psst. Monster Hunter Frontier is coming to the 360.
Unless something's changed that I don't know of.

I never had much problem with Tri. But then I'm playing on the classic controller and have played the series since the original PS2 release. I'm so used to circumnavigating it's problems I don't even notice them anymore.

Except for when my fingers start to hurt while playing Unite.

I'd say a really bad game that could have been better with better controls...
Lair (PS3)

'Nuff said. They TRIED to fix the controls but it didn't work.

I think I could forgive the last Alone in the Darks faults if I could only play the damn thing

Probably would've kept me playing Knights in the Knightmare longer. But really most games that utilize a touch screen too heavily run into this problem for me.

I naturally adapt to bad controls after a few minutes of playing so rarely does it bother me. If I had to pick something that had too complicated controls for other gamers that seem to lack my ability, I'd have to say Lost Planet 2. Its great fun but since every button on the controller does something people have a tendency to not like it. In all honestly you can play the entire game with the analog stick, square, and which ever button fires your gun.

Every Resident Evil before number 4. I would be able to enjoy the game a whole lot more if it were not for the camera and some of the controls. Mostly the camera.

Monster Hunter controls fine, so I don't know where your idea that they're terrible comes from.

Then again, I'm one of those people that seems to have no problems with games that have 'terrible controls.'

Didn't even know it existed, maybe I will try and find it cheap, because I did like where the story was going. Thanks!

If the combat worked with every weapon and the magic brush symbols worked properly, I might have actually liked this game. Or at the very least, been able to finish it. But nope, Ready at Dawn managed to fuck this up big time, which is a read disappointment because I've played some of their PSP games and I know they can do better than this.

Another game has instantly come to mind as well, so here we go:
Granted, this game needed a lot more work than just the controls. It was pretty awful all around, what with the freezing, graphical bugs, framerate problems, and the possibility that it might corrupt and wipe out all the other saves on your memory card. But the controls were also a problem, which made no sense considering it was a sequel to a game that pretty damn good controls. Why they decided to make so many of the actions in the game require you to push a combination of Z + another button is beyond me, but it was a huge pain in the ass.

Yeah. The PS2 controlled perfectly.

How the Wii version somehow managed to fuck everything up in beyond me.

Oh. No right stick. Duh.

Why has no one mentioned Red Dead Redemption yet?
Seriously if it weren't for the turning radius
... and those retarded horses
... and the cover system
... and fucking liar's dice
I'd still be playing that game
That and how you had to tap the button to run any faster then a snails crawl. I also found it dragged after the first half but thats off topic...

On another note: Beyond good and evil would probably be my second game if its camera was better. As it stands its still in my top 5 but it could be so much closer to the top..

Any FPS that only allows sprinting while you are holding W. The complaint is that it's unrealistc to be able to strafe while sprinting.

When we "strafe" in a game, the fair assumption would be that you're pedalling your feet around each other while facing directly forward. I don't see this as the case; your view only corresponds to the direction you're looking, and in real life it's perfectly reasonable for a jogger to turn his head to take a look at something.

However, I think it would be funny if an FPS allowed you to hit your head on something if you sprint in a direction other than the one you're looking.

Also, GTA4. The realistic motion of the walking was not worth its slugginess.

Yeah, but I don't really consider that a new generation Monster Hunter, it's just a port of an older version :/ I was thinking more along the lines of Shadow of the Collosus sort of freedon and exploration crossed with regular Monster Hunter fun.

You kidding me? As much as I loved and bought MH2, Freedom Unite and Tri, I can't deny that each and everyone of them frustrated the hell out of me, annoying controls on PSP that had my fingers playing a game of twister at times, annoying camera which took away from the action at times, slow and cumbersome animations that could mean you getting hit while trying to heal yourself or sharpen your weapon, it was okay when with a partner, but on your own it would be one of the most annoying things ever, I've never been killed in any other game trying to heal myself while being attacked by a relentless enemy every two seconds, waste of one of my three lives -_- and money.

I don't care for lock-on because I prefer the skill that comes with aiming correctly when attacking and I like defensive actions, so there are some features I don't mind that come with the challenge, but there are still those annoying game halting flaws that often have me giving up on the games. I have yet to complete any of my Monster Hunters -_-.

Lost Planet 2,hey if it also had a better explained story it would be a bloody awesome game.I still enjoyed it to be honest, but the enviroments were the only thing telling a story and the horrible auto aim was the only way to actually hit something.
