Perfect Dark is the game that immedietly springs to mind. Having playing Goldeneye 64 what seems to be millions of times, multi/single player, running capture the flag, etc I was really looking forwards to (What I was essentially told was) the sequel. I was told, "It's like Goldeneye but better"! The second the game came out I had my best mates and I around to play some good ol' fashion 4 player 64 action but was awoken to a rude shock...

They pushed it too far.

The game chugged like crazy, too many detailed objects and bots making the game criminally slow when multiplaying. My next point my be down to the fact that the controllers were worse than my 007 experience but the controls seemed less responsive as well. I remember in bond being able to snipe someone down a corrider with the rocket launcher while running; but Perfect Dark I seemed to have trouble targeting people with the simplist weapons like PISTOLS.
Funny, I never had any trouble going on a veritable rampage wielding double DX Magnums, which were said to be very inaccurate.

*sniff* Good times.

Guitar Hero and WOW, I know they are not bad they just don't interest me. I believe Yahtzee is right though when he says GH will kill the rock industry, we need more rock bands with good song writing skills.

Metal doesn't count!

Halo 3, I liked playing throught the single player but the multiplayer, for me at least was a let down I dont like having to use 30 bullets to kill someone and i like to have more than 2 weapon choices available to me at any time, unless I'm playing a class based shooter such as COD. Thats all I'm going to say on that one.

Oblivion, I really didn't get it, it was a pretty game and i spent a lot of time looking at water climbing hills etc but the actual story bored me and I wasn't too fond of the gameplay. Also whilst enviroments were really nicely done the NPC character design was pretty hideous alot of the time.

If I think of more I'll put them here.
I commend you for hating halo and yet not dissolving into flaming drivel.
*claps*

And my god (or lack thereof) do I agree with you on the oblivion having ugly people thing.
LoL. Oblivion does have hideous people. xD Despite this, I still rather enjoyed this game. For me, Oblivion is a love/hate relationship - at times, I'll absolutely love and want to play it, but, at others, I get bored of it quickly and find it tedious. Meh, whatever.

As far as Halo goes, I thought both 2 and 3 were terrible. Bungie got the equation right in the first Halo, but then went in a wrong direction for both 2 and 3, in an attempt to reinvent the gameplay. However, they ended up turning a good game in to a piece of crap.

GTA4, it was hailed as the best thing to come out on any console ever, I played it for a few hours and I'll admit it was interesting at first but at the end of the day it still boils down to shoot, kill, steal with a few minor additions such as the socialising (which got boring quickly) and the TV channels (also got boring). Luckily I didn't buy this one I just played it at my friends house. The most fun I had with this game was experimenting with different ways to kill Niko/launch him off of things.

I can agree with most of the posts here.
I never got into Metal Gear Solid personally, i know everyone else loves it, and it's kinda fun to watch, but i just don't feel the urge to get in on it.

Final Fantasy a wee bit too many games in that series.
MGS after the second it slightly removed the stealth aspect and it added more wtf moments see MGS4.
CoD 4 was alright multiplayer slightly repetitive the story was better than I would have thought it would have been and a nice change in the Americans don`t save the day in the end. PS: I wouldnt call CoD4 a class based shooter but to each his own.

I mean it's class based in the sense that you have different weapon setups for close quarters long range etc, obviously its class system isn't as deep as games like TF where you have engineers and stuff but I'd still count it as class based in a sense.

FEAR. It was the most mind-numbingly boring game with equally mind-numbingly high system requirements. Alot of reviewers praised the horror element, which to me was completely turned to ash the moment I got my hands on the friggin' triple-barrel rocket launcher. The whole game just seemed to me like it was horribly confused as to whether it should be scary or action-packed. If it had simply gone with the latter instead of trying to blend the two, it would have been great.

I would have to say:

FPS: Halo 2. Console FPS. No further comment.

RTS: Starcraft. After playing Total Annihilation, Starcraft wasn't that impressive. I prefer the style of Myth. No unit building, just unit control.

RPG: Mass Effect. RPGs aren't my thing, so I was intrigued that there would be a 3rd person space shooter RPG coming out. I suppose Yahtzee's review highlights the game's defficiancies best.

Puzzle/Card: Klondike Solitaire. There are so many better card games out there. (Free Cell is two icons away!) I can't understand why people play this insipid, entirely luck-based game.

FPS: Painkiller. I heard lots of great things about this, but the "run and gun" style gameplay didn't match Quake's pace.

MMORPG: WoW. I gave this a whirl on a 2 week trial. I quit before level 4. I just couldn't find grinding fun.

Others.
The Sims. Booooooring.
CoD 4. Fantastic single player. Very dull multiplayer. I suppose this is because I played Team Fortress 2 a week after CoD4. I never looked back.
Metal Gear Solid. In the codec calls, people kept saying the exact same thing over and over and over and over!

"Grinding" before Level 4?? How does one do that?

Back to the topic: I could never understand the Diablo craze... to me it was just a combination of bad graphics and boring gameplay.

well me I sort off like all games, except for one one kind that deserves to die die rot in hell and thats all football games (soccer to americans). I just dont see the point in playing a game where you could play yourself. Games is ament to make you feel like superman. Guitar hero 3 made me feel like a rock god so I went and bought a electric guitar. And turns out im shit. Anyway back to football games. They are repetative and boring. And dont say it good if you play it with mates cos its not, why dont you go outside and play the game you fat fucks.

LoL. Sorry, I'm not perfect with RPG terminology. I should have said "I just couldn't find killing boars fun."

And I'm with you on Diablo. Fun for a little bit, but ultimately very unrewarding.

Really, i honestly had none of those problems... and golden eye was stupidly annoying...mainly cause they didnt have a reverse y axis function.... and spawn camping was horrible in golder eye...and blasts that go through differnt levels of maps...

I think perfect dark was alot more of a refined game! the amount of weapons and differnt game modes to unlock was lots, and lots of fun :)
and you can tell that it was the same guys who went on to make the time slitters series!

I'm sorry to say that I just didn't find Halo that great, don't get me wrong it is a good game and I can understand why people like it, but it just never gripped me personally, the story wasn't that interesting, the actual gameplay itself isn't unique or original and it just doesn't sit right with me, just to me it isn't as good as everyone says it is. It also bugs me that most FPS games are trying to basically clone Halo, if they don't then most of the time it's reviewed as 'not as good as halo' which I think is a bit silly really.

Goldeneye. The ONLY thing this game had going for it was that it was a console FPS with supposedly a decent multiplayer. Problem is, compared to proper FPSs from years previously its complete rubbish.
