im sorry but by the time an actual mainstream developer makes something like that kinect will be old news and just like the ps eye a tool that was fun for a while but has become rarely used or spoke of in thoery an indie dev could do it but the mainstream media just couldnt do it they dont mod and you would want to do advanced moves in the game right yes well then you need the wrist movement so i geuss an indie dev could do it well because they are not afraid to mod but it would never happen well at least through the mainstream developers treat the system as a casual system until they are proven wrong by a large number of indie devs or microsoft themselves in theory it could happen but the kinect wont evolve enough to make it before they drop the updates and it just goes into a long state of deterioration like the ps eye did until the move came out and in reality all the kinect is is a ps eye with the ability to look up or down slightly and has two camera lenses the programming makes it special if it evolves enough to make a game that awsome ill go and buy my own instead of borrowing my cousins i just dont think it will happen

okay it sounds fun but unusable with no motion controller the system cant tell all arms and legs in all it would be fun for a while but it would also be glitchy as hell and because it is a kinect game one of the main guys on the project would probably screw it up by making it "Kid friendly" therefore extremely easy turning a kickass idea and concept into a casual childrens game
Yes you can, you TOTALLY can. The kinect is DESIGNED to read limb movements. Right now, because it is in it's infancy, the reading algorithms are still pretty crude, so it can't do things like thumbs and wrist twists. But what's to say that the future stuff can't? The hardware is fully capable of handling it and registering info. I've seen vids of guys who hacked the kinect to show how much detail it can truly capture. (Seriously, youtube it) I've seen hospital use the kinect as a way to manipulate CT Scans during operation, remotes using the kinect to control a robot and making it dance, and so many other cool hacks. Surely the device itself has more potential than you're giving it credit for.

Plus, the whole fear of it being "kid friendly" is more of a comment on the mentality of devs and publishers rather than the kinect itself. Besides, these are "games I want to see made", not "games that are disappointing versions of itself".

So whose to say that this dream game would not be totally gritty and hardcore?

first thing. dude, please use punctuation. Your posts are really hard to read.

you know what the PS Eye turned into right? That thing was basically a Move prototype. Last I checked, SOCOM is on that.

Anyway, all of this you're saying are conjectures about what major publishers would do, and less of a critique on the game idea itself. It's a perfectly valid idea, in a thread where we're talking about "what kind of games you would like to see made".

Having said that, I also disagree with your theory. A look at the Sony Move release titles shows you plainly that publishers ARE trying to make motion controls appeal to the core gamer crowd. Their aesthetics alone shows that intention. (Execution is a different issue)

This course of action, believe it or not, would not be out of line with Microsoft's branding strategy. It is ENTIRELY possible for Microsoft to observe what Sony is doing, and decide that they got a shot at this market too. It's about putting the considerable resources behind it. And plus, there is actually NO shortage of publishers who know motion control in the core gamer crowd. Konami produces a bunch of ray gun games and motion sensor games for the arcade. You think an alliance between Microsoft and them are unlikely?

All it takes is the right guy to pitch it and make it work. Besides, MS have sunk way too much R&D into this project to just let it die on the side of the road. Everyone has said before, motion control does not HAVE to be a gimmick. If Sony is willing to take an older failed product and revamp it, what's to say MS is not willing to do the same?
