Games based on things you could do in real life. Why not just actually do those things instead of playing a game about them? (And I mean the games about things that are part of everday life, like cooking games and such.) Also, Brain Age and Big Brain Acadamy. I play games for fun, not to have the same experience as going to school.

I can understand everything except DDR/Guitar Hero/Horrible Games
I've always said the same thing, but then the GH Aerosmith demo came up....

I really don't get Gran Turismo. Never understood the point of being so realistic.

I'm loving how people are listing every genre in some of their posts. It's easy to understand any game out there really, even if you don't like it. I absolutely hate starcraft / warcraft, but I can understand why it sells and why people like it. The only game I can't truely understand would be Street Fighter. The controls are poorly programmed, and the graphics are always a generation old it seems. But then, the amount of skill some people garner at the game make it extremely popular, so even that I can understand.

People who say they can't understand a game simply aren't trying and refuse to try to see the other side of the argument.

Playing tennis with a 50 lb weight vest on your body, a racket made of polyester, and only being able to hop around on one leg is an almost identical parallel to normal tennis, but that doesn't mean I would "get" why anyone would enjoy it.

But I suppose that's where our opinions differ; I disagree strongly with your assertion that console shooter games are the same idea as PC shooters except with "a different, almost equally good control interface." It's not equally good and there's certainly a lot more (like free mods, map packs, and total conversions) which make me very confused as to why people would purchase console shooters when there are far more compelling styles of console games out there to be played.

Oh, and I've owned an Xbox 360 and played COD4 and Halo 3 on it for a couple months while also having and playing COD4 and Crysis on a pretty nice computer. What about your experiences with both modern platforms? Otherwise, I'm not really sure how you can validly enter a discussion comparing the two.
Speaking only for myself here:

I play console FPS games because my family has two computers (one of which is just above crap) and my parents are gun-shy. In the past, everytime we tried to install anything above Solitare, our computer would crash for three to five days. I always told my parents that the reason for this was that, until recently, every computer they ever got was absolute crap. They refuse to listen to me though. Even if I did have an FPS installed on our PC, I wouldn't get to use it much because there are four other people I have split computer time with. And the last time I tried to install an FPS on my laptop (Lost Planet), I exceeded the bandwidth restriction here at Penn State. Just by trying to installing it.

For these reasons, I play console FPS games like Halo. Due to bad experiences and limited access to a PC, I choose not to play PC games in general. However, I want to have fun, too. So I turn to the console FPS.

And as for games that I don't understand: Animal Crossing.

I don't really get how you can not understand a game. I mean video games are a form of entertainment and exists as such, even if it's not your kind of game someone else will enjoy it. There's usually at least one thing to like though.
For example, I've recently been replaying FFX and while a lot of the characters are poorly characterised (and the fact that Tidus exists in the world), 80% of the game is spent running through vast, empty fields and the story drags on and on, I do enjoy the combat system and I think Rikku is and excellent character.

Having said this, I don't understand why we need quite so many WW2 games. 2 series I can get on board with. Maybe 3 at a push. But it just seems like WW2 games from every direction. But I'm not really into FPS games, bar Half-Life, Perfect Dark and FarCry, so I guess I can't really comment.

Championship manager, all of them, and all their clones, including those in other sports.

Why is it fun to play with a spreadsheet about football? Even if it was about sci-fi or anime or anything I'm obsessed with, I wouldnt want to stare at a page full of numbers for god knows how long, then watch little dots run around... playing the game themselves without me... I mean, come on!!

I play it as a little time waster. You're going out in an hour or two, not enough time to really do anything worthwhile so play a few games on that. Actually, once you get into the whole business with tactics, it can get very absorbing.

Pretty much any sports game out there since baseball 2020 [LANDMINES in the outfield woot]

Alot of raceing games i dont get . Im not talking the street raceing or off road games like Need for speed and offroad I mean the nascar and indy games . why drive around in a circle for a few hours in the same track just looping about .

There was also a survival horror recently i think it was called obscure or something..... the one player mode sucked the 2 player mode was a race to see who could die faster due to crappy controls and broken rubber band screening . The screen followed player one nomatter what player two was doing. I wanna know why it even exists.

Sports games, it has been said a billion times but never EVER in the my life span will i ever understand or like them! Heck, i can't even watch sports on TV cause i don't understand why it would be entertaining. This is what gets me thou, i've played and still once in a while play sports so ultimately you think I would like these things.

If you really like sports enough to virtually play them then i think it's time to get off your arse and GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY THEM. Same thing with watching them. Sports are sports cause they're fun a fun to play physical activity, so how can watching other people enjoy themselves chasing a ball around supposed to be entertaining?

EDIT:
I just took a utter shit on myself cause i just realized i was playing WiiSports earlier but if playing Bowling with a Mii that looks like Mr.T isn't entertaining THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS

The following games, I don't understand or see any enjoyment in:

99% of all FPS games
Rhythm games
Survival Horror
Sports games
Racing games
Most simulation games (I get The Sims, but I don't really get Nintendogs. Probably because I have a dog, but I don't have godlike powers over my family)
So what? You guys read books?
Yes. I also play RTS, TBS, RPG, JRPG, TRPG, god-games, action-adventure games, a few party games and some fighting games. Among others.

I never get people who say "I don't understand FPS" sure there are many ways to enjoy a FPS but for me it is the simple pleasure of bang bang your dead.

I can't shoot people in real life so its stress relief for me but whatever floats your boat i guess.

I never get people who tout FPS as THE ultimate genre of gaming, so I guess we're even.

Woooooah. Defiantly not the ULTIMATE genre. I happen to like RPGs more then FPS i was just saying What is there to get? It is simple pleasure of shooting people.

I wasn't talking about you specifically, but I do know some people who are of the opinion that if it isn't an FPS (or even, specifically a PC FPS) then it's inherently inferior.

Also, I'd like to point out that in my first post I also said "don't see any enjoyment in". FPS falls under this latter category, not the "don't get" one. What I don't get about FPS isn't where the fun is, but why people enjoy it the huge extent that they seem to.
