I like racing games cause 'shock horror' I like motorsport. As for "whats the point of racing games"? Whats the point of any game? It's fun I enjoy it end of! Some people like 100 hour long jrpg slog fests good on em I say, It's not my thing but whatever, completing a perfect lap of the nurburgring in forza 2 is fun for me as I live in Australia and without winning the lottery I wont be able to do it in real life. So games give you a chance to do things you could not do otherwise. So gaming snobs make me laugh, as if pretending to be a japanese teenager battling an evil corporation is any more high brow than pretending to be a racing driver or a space marine.

I've never been able to enjoy a game where your inventory looks like an excel spreadsheet and battles involves putting the controller down and watching numbers get lower on screen...

I'm talking about RPG's if that wasn't clear)

main stream games. how can such utter shit sell so well?
lol agreed
You poseur-y twats. MMORPGs I don't really get. Well - I've never really GOT into them. I don't want to have such a big time contribution, or pay monthly.

I totally get sports games. I'm not 100 percent sure of paying full price for updates year after year, but I really enjoy them, particularly multiplayer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFrMSzoLXIU people want to be this!

I never could understand why people play games like FF and Golden Sun, there is so much dialogue to skip through my bloody finger started to hurt from skipping so much. And the turned based game watching the same moves over and over again a million times when fighting a boss with a zillion health. And the story's just suck, who ever said they play for the story could be entertained by a 5 year old kids homework!
Sorry you feel that way, I read high fantasy novels and I was entertained by the plot in Golden Sun and it was a lot deeper than other rpg games even most of this gen's rpg games.

As for skipping the plot, that's kind of the point of the whole rpg game: the plot, you fight, quest and adventure to advance the storyline, I think the game you want is a fighting game like Soul Calibur it's mostly action with no proper story.
You couldn't be anymore wrong, quick to judge fighting games and I didn't even say I play them. I would stay and read the plot if they didn't repeat the same thing all the time and they don't know how to have a proper conversation. In fact they are hardly any different from any of the animes I have seen, FMA was the only one that interested me.

And the fighting is incredibly repetitive even with new skills, so it makes it hard to advance the storyline if it sucks!

Games like Wow.
They seem to say "the world depends on you and you alone .. aswell at 3 million other people!"
I dont get how the fate of the world rests with SO many people.

Sports games, it has been said a billion times but never EVER in the my life span will i ever understand or like them! Heck, i can't even watch sports on TV cause i don't understand why it would be entertaining. This is what gets me thou, i've played and still once in a while play sports so ultimately you think I would like these things.

If you really like sports enough to virtually play them then i think it's time to get off your arse and GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY THEM. Same thing with watching them. Sports are sports cause they're fun a fun to play physical activity, so how can watching other people enjoy themselves chasing a ball around supposed to be entertaining?
Im with you on this one.

it drives me insane trying to understand why they still inside when they could be outside playing it for real.

The Sims. There, I said it.

I fail to see why people play a game in which they play themselves going to work, furnishing their home, doing chores, etc. I do that in real life and I like games for escapism, and never the two shall meet.
I play it to create insane storylines, for example: A bisexual demon with a secret lab plans to take over the world and wipes out most of his family after putting them in cryo-stasis to stop them from whining about a miscarriage and then gets married with a creature made to avenge some woman's murder.
Yes, I actually did that in The Sims.

Ahem, now to the topic. RPGs with Final Fantasy style "Go into menu, press attack, watch repetitive animation, repeat" turn-based combat, grind MMOs, and fighting games.

For me it is the multiplayer and the amazing storyline. Time traveling robots, anyone?

Sport games because when I play a game I want escapism and thats something I cant find in sports games, not to mention the fact that I hate all sports anyway.

Hmm, that's interesting. While thinking of what to answer for this, I found that even the games that I hate (JRPGs!) I atleast partially understand why others would like them. Sort of. Though I less understand those Japanese (again) mindless fighting games like Tekken, Soul Calibur or however it's spelled. Those just seem completely pointless.

Anyway, the point is that I guess it's just because I'm so intelligent and I have such an open mind that I can understand other people's interests even if I'm not interested in them myself. Suck it.

I just don't like the sport game area at all same with flight simulators with too many controls. I like guitar hero/rockband becuase i'm playing to the music not because i get pleasure from moving my hand up and down a plastic guitar neck, if i wanted to do that i'd go play my bass

Racing games (2 exceptions: Mario Kart and Cruisin' USA for the N64)
Sports Games (If I hate real-life sports why would I like virtual sports?)
Wrestling Games (stupid, boring, and sadly enough, more real than pro-wrestling)
RTS games (Not nearly strategic enough)
