I'm on my second playthrough of New Vegas and have found that using the various sniper rifles (fully modded Varmint and Hunter , Sniper and Anti-Material rifles) is extremely fun and satisfying, far more than using similar weapons from Fallout 3 and Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops.
Picking someone off from far beyond VATS range, at the very edge of visual range, without them even knowing I'm there is nearly entertaining. Not to mention, the Sniper and anti-material rifles are absolutely devastating to Death Claws, provided your in sneak mode. I was able to kill the Death Claw mother in with three shots using the Sniper rifle.

Now I ask you, what games out there make sniping fun and satisfying?

Worms World Party.
Nothing beats that one nice snipe shot across map that leads to a chain reaction killing the entire enemy team.
Except maybe a well placed poke.

I can't comment on multiplayer stuff (hardly ever play), but single player sniping irks me. It's fun, sure. There are also so very few opportunities to make use of it. HL2's a good example of this. Would've loved to have more chances to use the crossbow.

Come to think of it, the only FPS where I was actually happy with the sniping may well be Deus Ex. Thief too, I suppose, if you count that.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has excellent sniping. The maps are large enough that bullet drop can play a factor and you have to lead moving targets. While this makes it difficult, once you line up the shot and hit your mark, it's by far the most satisfying sniping experience in gaming (that I've played).

I absolutely agree, and for some strange reason I'm much better at sniping in this game than in any other, including the ones that don't take bullet drop into account. It's strange.

Team Fortress 2, difficult at times, but the trouble is well worth the reward.
A satisfying 'DING' to signify a critical hit and the entirely wonderful and utterly individual death gargle from each different class.
Not to mention the things the Sniper says afterwards.

The only bad thing about Bad Company's sniping is the fact there are so many snipers, and the friggin 50.cal.

Practically any game with sniping has fun sniping I guess.
Theres just degrees of how well its done.

This. I was pretty good at it too. Nothing more satisfying than hearing it crack, knowing you got a headshot from a mile away. Particularly if you pointed the sights right above their head, knowing gravity would pull it down into their skull... yeah...

Dont look at me like that.

Operation Flashpoint, Arma, Arma2.

Stuff like that.

Very satisfying to put a bullet through a high value target at long range, after perfectly judging the drop, and even the windage, and enjoy the fact that his comrades are having a long, difficult game of trying to guess where the hell it came from.

Sniping is awesome, but I think has no real place in gaming. The problem is that the whole reason why it's awesome in real life, pretty much castrates games by making them far too easy when you can pick off opponents from basically miles away with minimal risk. Pretty much every player has dealt with "super AI" that will have enemies gun them down with robo-accuracy from 200 meters or more away at one time or another. Being on the receiving end is when you see how unfair it is.

In multiplayer, I think that Sniping has more or less ruined a good portion of the games it's touched. There has been plenty written about how a lot of these games involve pretty much everyone wanting to be the Recon/Sniper type character and pwn people with single shots from in hiding accross the map. I mean think about it... that's the sane and rational thing to want to do under the circumstances because it's pretty bloody effective. It however turns a lot of these games into complete jokes.

Activision/Treyarch apparently tried to address the issue by gimping sniping, and making the weapons take some set up time, and/or stopping "fastscoping" (despite the fact that there is no reason you can't shoot someone with a rifle that is close to you). Whether they relented or not, I remember seeing the videos about it, and I remember seeing a video about it here when "Black Ops" was first released.

Sniping is one of those things that is cool, but arguably too cool for most games. I think a lot of games have it because people expect it, and like the "point and click adventure game" solution (use gun on man/monster) to problems, but I think putting sniping into games is also where most of them start to go wrong.

Vanquish. The actual sniper rifle was pretty fun in itself, but the DLC laser cannon was like a sniper rifle that made targets explode.

The correct game you are looking for is "all of them". I haven't really run into a game where I said "Man, this sniping is boring".

I really enjoy sniping in Fallout:NV too... the Gobi Campaign Rifle and Ratslayer make it fun... as does the new big fix patch, since there are far fewer invisible walls on useful ridges.

...I also enjoy sniping with a thrown butcher knife in American McGee's Alice.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
bad company 2, the bullet drop is really neat when you get the hang of it and its one of those games where a really awesome sniper shot is that much more awesome

I hate sniping. It just kinda ends the game for me. The only game where I can [barely] tolerate and even take part in sniping is Bad Company 2. Even then I usually stick with the engineer or medic class.
