You know the ones. The games where you get plonked into a suit of power armor, a shotgun deathcock shoved into your arms, and your vision tunneled to the first person perspective and thrust directly into the game with no idea how; or best of all why.

Worse of all as you progress through levels you still have no fucking clue what the point is besides fucking this world up.

My list includes Quake, and the entire racing sim genre.

What others have you come across that never once actually gave a story in the game itself.

PS: And don't say it's explained on the box, games should hold up on their own.

Dynasty Warriors 3, I had no idea what was going on, cu scenes mant nothing and neither did the battles, so grateful I read Romance of th three kingdoms, now it makes sense, and now I'm playing number 6!

Agreed with racing games, except maybe Gan Turismo, it's very self explanatory, buy car, race, improve, race, repeat

World of Warcraft, is a good example.... Just do this quest than that, no real main line of story.

It took them 4 years to realize that. Then they added just one zone where it changes from the quests you do. Basically a giant cinematic sandwich. And then everything goes back to grindism.

There is? Damnit... what about the Arcade Version from F-Zero? (F-Zero AX) Last time I played there was no Story Mode...

Red and blu are at war, that's pretty much the story. Just like every other war game.

WoW is the prime example. No concentration of plot.

Yep, Dragonblight. But that's about it. WoW is a game where you're already expected to know the story from other games. Fuck those other games, I couldn't even install them on my computer because they were so old. I didn't want ot have to play through 5 other games just to grind my way through 2 months of monotony. The only reason I played for so long was because I had friends there. Both real life and others who became real life friends.

On topic: GTA 1 & 2. I can't think of actual story to those games. Guns, pixels, and Elvis's. Grindy missions and changing scenery. When you really think about it, they didn't start adding actual story content to the series until it went 3D.

You'd actually be hard-pressed to find games without a story outside of the puzzle genre.

Quake has a setting (a sci-fi setting featuring a war with aliens from what I understand), a character (yourself), and a plot (the things that you do). Therefore it has a story.

Just dragonblight? If phasing is what your talking about, its in ALOT of different zones. Plus you learn the entire story of whats happened, happening, and going to happen through quests. Don't get pissed off cause the the manual doesn't tell you everything.

Half life 2? I have no idea what the fuck is going on, people just seem so excited to have GOrdan around and then just assume that in my greatness I already know everything. Plus since there are no cut scenes I start to zone out then miss whatever is being said
