Well back in the day stories were pretty much an insubstantial part of many games. Did you care more that you were hopping platforms and having fun or more that you were saving a princess who was kidnapped for arbitrary reasons?RicoADF said:A very simple and easy to forget story when your slaughtering hundreads of demons, but a story non the less![]()
stabnex said:You know the ones. The games where you get plonked into a suit of power armor, a shotgun deathcock shoved into your arms, and your vision tunneled to the first person perspective and thrust directly into the game with no idea how; or best of all why.
Worse of all as you progress through levels you still have no fucking clue what the point is besides fucking this world up.
My list includes Quake, and the entire racing sim genre.
What others have you come across that never once actually gave a story in the game itself.
PS: And don't say it's explained on the box, games should hold up on their own.
That's the thing. It's not a single quest. It's a quest line, and one I've been on for the past fifteen or so levels (and haven't finished yet). I guess I could have brought up "Summoning the Princess," too, but that one is less expansive (though again, I have yet to finish it).GodsOneMistake said:There is a lot in that game, i can't be expected to remember a single quest, but...NeutralDrow said:You've never heard of "The Missing Diplomat?"GodsOneMistake said:World of Warcraft, is a good example.... Just do this quest than that, no real main line of story.
is that the one looking for the king of Stormwind or something
That's an objective. That is about the same amount of story as in Tetris your stacking blocks.TheTygerfire said:Plants are protecting your house from Zombies...that's a story.D4zZ said:Plants vs Zombies
Its more complicated than that. I think its two companies that are fighting eachother in year 1976. Pay attention to the calendars and the team posters. RED and BLU are both company title anagrams.Trife said:Red and blu are at war, that's pretty much the story. Just like every other war game.Flos said:TF2 has a story.Dr. Wily III said:Team Fortress 2
It's weird, but it's a story.
WoW is the prime example. No concentration of plot.
And some very bad combat controls.johnman said:Mount and Blade has no story other than the one you craft. But if you dont care for crafting story's then its juts you, a sowrd and a whole load of poorly armed bandits.
HL2 had a good story, but for the reason why everyone thinks Gordon is the second coming is slightly harder to decipher, maybe the events at BM, or is it the Gman's doing?funksobeefy said:Half life 2? I have no idea what the fuck is going on, people just seem so excited to have GOrdan around and then just assume that in my greatness I already know everything. Plus since there are no cut scenes I start to zone out then miss whatever is being said
Not true, remember King's Quest? On topic, Civilization.arcstone said:Any game made in the eighties.
